Gilgamesh

From: Sydney

Genre: Hardcore/punk/ska

Mainly played in Sydney, especially in the Cronulla area, where they received a lotof support and supported such acts as NOFX, Guttermouth and Propagandhi. They had elements of ska in their music through a saxaphone but never got enough recognition for their hard work. Were signed to Murmur Records before their split. In late '97,their original bass player, Porter, left the band and his departure might have been the catalyst for Gilgamesh's death.

Formed mid 94 (confirmed by Stu) but broke up in early 1998.

Discography:

'Land of the long white shaft' EP 1995

'Vulgar display of arse' EP 1996

Band Members : Graham (Drums,Vox), Bob (Guit,Vox), Tim (Sax), Chris (Bass)

In 1999 Graham the singer is in a hardcore band called Pitbull Attack.

This information below supplied by Hunt (email 24-10-00): I can tell you that the band members attended caringbah high, and endevour high, and as I recall, the word on the street was that they broke up because they all got the shits with each other. Dan the Man was a really cool song though.

This information emailed by James (email 28-10-00): Gilgamesh's first demo tape was called Shaft Machine (track listing: Mother Mut, Nothin, Pathway of Hate, Home, The Day I Get It, Judge of Me, Always the Same, Slacker, Ska'd for Life, Dan the Man, The King of Humour) and they released (well, Spent records did) a split CD in 1996 with a band called Poison Bruno (track listing: Gilgamesh > Ape, It's a Sin, Salt; Poison Bruno> Rubber Chicken, Astray, Rob Me Blind). Some interesting info . . . on 'Vulger Display of Arse', the end part where someone is singing along to a song, ie. ner ner ner ner nah nah nah nah nerrr . . . FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU etc. . . . well, that song is actually Gilgamesh doing the song "It's a Sin", off the Split CD (the original version by the Pet Shop Boys, of course : ). And another piece of useless trivia, Tim, the Sax player, went to the same school as me, a few years ahead of me though, that was Sydney Technical High School, Bexley. And also, Millencolin thank Gilgamesh in the sleeve of their Life on a Plate album, along with a few other Sydney ska/punk bands. They have a song on the "Rock" compilation, put out on Phantom Records, (also featuring other bands such as Nancy Vandal, Dogbuoy, Quadbox, The Porkers) The song Gilgamesh contribute to the CD is Def Leopard's "Rockit".

Anyone who knows more please email me! Cheers!
