The Moffatts Change Their Tune

You'd think that with the international success of their 1995 self-titled debut album CD,most noted for the country-inspired hits "Don't Judge This book" and "When God Made You", The Moffatts would be hard at work on a follow-up album reminiscent of what their country fans love them for the most,Boy are you wrong! While these Vancouver,British Columbia,Canada natives admit that they're grateful for what the country music industry did for them career-wise,16-yr-old Scott(his birthday is March 30) and his just-turned-15-year-old triplet brothers,Bob,Clint and Dave would be fooling themselves as well as their fans,if they didn't switch gears with their upcoming album,Chapter 1:A New Beginning, and play the music truest to each of their hearts:rock n roll!"Country music opened up the doors for us to become a pop-rock band,"close-cropped cutie Clint, who plays bass, explains to Bop."We still look at it as great music,But pop-rock is a music style that we much perfer to play."And listen to,for that matter. While it was only a few years ago that these 4 talented musicians were reaching for a Garth Brooks or Dwight Yoakam CD to pop into their cd player for inspiration, they admit thatthe edgier sounds of bands like Nirvana and Bush soon won out in the end."As we got older, our taste in music changed,"keyboard-playing Dave Divulges to Bop.Changed, exchanged and rearranged is actually what happened o not only their musical tastes but, inevitably,to their creative efforts as well. Groovin' to a new Beat:In Chapter 1:A New Beginning, due to finally hit U.S. stores on May 18,you won't find anymore of those twangy ballads and boot scootin'ditties for which The Moffatts were once famous, especially in their adopted hometown of Nashville,Tennessee. On this more than appropriately named CD you will instead, find a slew of up-tempo danceable tunes and ska-influenced that these music-makers just can't say enough about."It's chapter one definately," Bob,the group's dreamy, lonhaired, drummer explains of the title."The reason that we put it on there was so that our fans could understand that we're going to be putting out more records and that they can be waiting for something else to come out in the future. It just tells everybody that it's a new beginning for us."And despite The Moffatts new beginning right smack in the middle of a boy band bonanza, guts overtake fear as this quartet is more confident than ever."There really aren't a lot of acts like us out right now, except for Hanson, that play instruments and write their own songs,"Scott, the group's movin, groovin guitarist, equates.Well, with boys this hot and talented, the more the merrier!
