Bop:The Moffatts'Latin Love

When Bop's Carmen hung out with The Moffatts--16-yr-old scott and his 15-yr-old triplet bros Bob,Clint and Dave--in a homey backstage room during the taping of their due-in-October episode of NBC's Hang Time, she heard the guys speaking a whole different language. That's becuase the room we were in on the set that day was their classroom. And what was it on the sylabus you ask?Spanish!"This year we got to choose a language, and we picked spanish,"drummer-boy Bob says."We could have taken French,German,whatever..But we chose Spanish because here in LA,so many people speak spanish and you never when you'll be in a situation where you'll need to talk to them."These Nashville,TN guys take their schoolwork wherever they go,while promoting their rockin recent album,Chapter 1:A new Beginning US."We're homeschooling,so we take all of our books on the road with us.We carry around like 20 books,"abnd bassist Clint explains."and do our work on the plane or bus."He points at a blackboard filled with the day's lessons."Today we have a spanish teacher here, which is really cool because we haven't studied spanish in quite awhile,so we've been kind of dry on it.You know, not so fresh."

Bilingual Babes

Surely,he's being modest.Believe us,The Moffatts know more than the basic"un burrito, por favor lines you can learn from watching Taco Bell commercials. Not surprising, considering that these songsters, are all high school sophomores, spend plenty of time hitting the books, despite their demanding work in front of the camera or onstage."We spend three or four hours a day studying,"group-guitarist Scott says."When we dont, then we make up for it some other time." "Yeah."Bob agrees, sharing with us that specific day's schedule."We're supposed to do school for an hour before the show and an hour after the show."Keyboardist Dave is muy happy with their decision to study spanish for one special reason."I love spain! we've been to Valencia,Madrid and Barcelona. And I think Madrid is my favorite city,"he gushes. For sure, the lessons will come in handy for this spanish lover, especially when ordering seconds in his fave city."For an appetizer they have this salad with tuna,"Dave recalls, addind mmms and aaahs between setences."Then for the main meal, there's fish.A typical spanish dinner has fish or squid in its own ink.It is great.Very tasty. And Steak-steak...then a huge dessert!"Yum.That sure makes us want to say Ole!
