Ok, first up is Cymdeithas Eryri - Snowdonia Society. They exist to help protect the scenery, the natural and historic features and the wildlife of Snowdonia, or Eryri in Welsh, for the enjoyment of present and future generations. They work on behalf of the mountains, the rivers, the wildlife and the people who live there. The society has been part of successful campaigns to protect Snowdonia from schemes which would have scarred the landscape, harmed it's wildlife or eroded it's special character. They organise regular monthly working days where members take action to clear eyesores and surface mess which mars the beauty of the area. They seek to ensure that any development is in harmony with the landscape and the |
environment, and that local traditions are respected.
They organise a full programme of events for their members, including guided walks, illustrated talks and social events. Members also receive a newsletter and an annual report.
The headquarters is at 'Ty Hyll', the famous 'Ugly House' on the A5 at Capel Curig. The Society rescued this well-known landmark from dereliction in the 1980's and now uses it both as it's headquarters, and is now a show house for visitors.
All they ask you for is a minimum donation of just £10 per year. For more information, please contact;
