Gene Roddenberry's legacy was introduced to the American public in 1966. "Star Trek" was his vision of the future, in which mankind had grown and advanced to the point where hate, hunger and greed had been eliminated. Humanity had grown beyond such horrible things. Earth had become a peaceful planet, and its people took to the stars to learn more about the universe. Captain Kirk, Mister Spock, and the crew of the starship Enterprise encountered strange new worlds, sought out new life forms, and boldly went where no man had gone before. The series ran on NBC for three seasons before being cancelled. But the fan base crew and the series had a new life in syndication, sparking the birth of a franchise that would take the world by storm.
