This flying creature is
similiar to a Mutalisk - its body is thicker, and curves the opposite
way. Small wings project from behind its head, rather than near the end
of its tail.
Description
Bred from the Mutalisk strain, the Devourers are a deadly
addition to the Swarm. These large, flying behemoths are capable of
spewing their vile acid at any airborne ships or creatures, causing
significant corrosive damage. The venom of the Devourer consists of
toxins that can eat through any known substance, including the
reinforced armor plating of Terran and Protoss capital ships. The venom
also contains Acid Spores that hinder the fighting ability of the
target, and these Spores often splash off the target to hit additional
nearby enemy craft. Despite its large size, the Devourer can travel
through the air at surprising speeds
Combat
The Devourer has no effective means of combating
ground-based forces - however, its attacks are deadly to enemy ships,
and Mutalisks often accompany Devourers into battle.
Acid Spores (Ex):
The Devourer's attack, which has a range increment of 600 feet, can
only be directed at other airborne targets. When a target is struck by
the attack, a number of acidic spores bounce off and attach to the
target. These corode machinery, preventing spacecraft from making more
than one attack per round. In addition, a target that has been struck
by acid spores takes an additional 1d6 points of damage times the
number of acid spores it has been struck with (maximum 9d6) each time
it is sucessfully hit by another attack, whether from the Devourer or
another source.
