FANFIC

- A well-written story ties up all its loose ends. D&D, however, never had a chance to answer the question "What happens next?" Such a script was written, although never produced. (Michael Reaves has finally posted that script, though, and you can find the link to "Requiem" on the Recent Additions page.) Anyway, after all those years lacking that actual script to end the series, I wrote my own, explaining why the kids got to the Realm in the first place and how they got out. (At least we know they did get back; see "The Girl Who Dreamed Tomorrow"). Anyway, here is my script, "The Way Home".

- Victoria Bishop of Rose du Lac, Manitoba, Canada has written something a little different in fanfic: a prequel, assuming that the kids started out in far-flung parts of the country and met at summer-camp. Check out

"The Gathering".

Victoria Bishop is also no mean artist (at least in the opinion of Yours Truly, who can't handle a pencil to save my neck). Anyway, go to the Miscellany page for samples of her D&D artwork.

- Here is a 10-part series that wonders what if: "Return to the Realm: Ten Years Later"

Part One.

Part Two.

Part Three.

Part Four.

Part Five.

Part Six.

Part Seven.

Part Eight.

Part Nine.

and Part Ten.

Here's a question: what if Venger succeeded in changing history in "The Time Lost"? What would have changed? What would be the same? Submitted for your approval:

"Time Lost, Time Found".

Now the heftiest fanfic project this board will probably undertake: a new story every month throughout 1999. This time, "The Realm" will try to unify the whole series, showing the origins of Venger and Tiamat, the arrival of the kids, the plots of stories only alluded to in the series (like "The Castle of Clouds") and finally a wrap-up that ties the loose ends and gets the kids home. Ready for the ride? Keep your hands inside the car at all times and hang onto the bar--

Prologue: The Birth of Venger, part one.

Ready for more? For the first appearance of Venger (as such), his horse and his nemesis Tiamat--

Prologue: The Birth of Venger, part two.

Alright, this one is a little late, but here it is: what happened when the Dungeons and Dragons Ride started acting wierd--

"Six young ones who are pure of heart" arrive in the Realm.

Remember at the end of "Traitor", when DM told the kids that there was a way home in the Land of Blue Fire?--

The Land of Blue Fire.

I know, I know; this one is soooo late, but I had to get a lot of stuff taken care of this month; Anyway, we actually saw the ending of this adventure, so it's time we saw the beginning--

Fire in the Ice.

Alright, after being sidelined with other projects and locked out for a time when Yahoo! took over, it's time to play catch-up, starting here: At the beginning of "The Time Lost", Presto is giving Eric a haircut(!) as Eric laments about missing another portal "in the Castle of Clouds". Here's my version of that adventure. (BTW, the business with the giant crab was on the original storyboard but ended up on the cutting room floor).--

The Castle of Clouds.

I happen to think that this next one, late as it is, is worth the wait. It picks up a remark DM made at the end of "Winds of Darkness" and pits the kids against one of the realm's nastier critters--

The Eyes of Crinn.

So our heroes have met the challenge posed by Crinn, but they find that (a) even guests of honor sometimes pay a price, and (b) their patience is just about exhausted. What happens when they try to force an answer out of DungeonMaster by giving up their weapons?--

New Magic for Old.

Our heroes get a little more information about the wild magick from an old friend (if my mail is any indication, one of the most popular of the Realm's residents). The ride is almost over, so hang on tight: from here on, plots get resolved, debts get settled, and the magic kicks into overdrive--

A Warrior's Promise.

Our brave band still doesn't have all the information about the wild magick, even though they end up taking it out for a test-drive. The results are not exactly happily ever after--

Return of a Friend.

This is what it's all been building to: six young ones, pure of heart, battling He Whose Name Is Not For Our Ears. Will they win? At what price? And what if it isn't quite finished yet?

Herald of Chaos.

It's always something, isn't it? You nearly kill yourself battling He Whose Name Cannot Be Spoken, and then Venger shows up. How do the kids deal with it? How do they get home? And what about Uni? At long last, the ride is over...

The Face of a Child.

I got the following e-mail from our Brazilian brother in D&D, Marcelo Rodrigo Pereira, with certainly the most unique ending for the series ever proposed:

NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!

Last and certainly wierdest, a "filksong" courtesy of Todd Jensen:

"Venger and the Orcs".

- If you've done your own speculation and come up with your own scripts, artwork etc., by all means let me know about that, too. I'll try to get it posted here as soon as possible.
