Why Party of Five isn't Party of Seven?

This is for all of you who missed the first season of Party of Five.
Are you wondering where the parents of the remaining Salinger family are?

Here's what happened. The Salinger parents were killed in a car accident at an intersection by a drunk driver. They left behind 5 children. Charlie, Bailey, Julia, Claudia, and Owen. It was obvious that no one would take all of the children so they had to think further. They came to the conclusion of Charlie becoming their guardian. So he did. Now, they live in a big house together, with the parental guidance of Charlie, the big brother.
