Title for Episode 910
Best Brains has announced the movie to be riffed in episode 910. It's...
THE FINAL SACRIFICE (aka QUEST FOR THE LOST CITY)
(1991, Canada, color, Flying Dutchman Productions, not rated)
Produced and directed by T. Jardus Greidanus.
Starring Christian Malcolm, Bruce J. Mitchell, Shane Marceau, Ron Anderson.
VideoLog Summary:
Seeking to avenge his father's death, a man follows a map in his father's possession to an evil jungle kingdom.
TV Guide gives it a "0" rating and says:
A wan effort to do high adventure on a budget that wouldn't cover a public-school field trip, QUEST FOR THE LOST CITY (retitled from THE F INAL SACRIFICE [the working title]), finds youthful Troy McGreggor (Mitchell) discovering the secret map that got his archaeologist father killed seven years earlier.
Soon he's battling a rather down-on-their-luck master race. Their leader Satoris (Marceau, growling his lines in a vaudeville bad-guy accent) can take over the world if he performs the proper sacrifice at a nearby papier-mache altar.
Cheap visuals consist mainly of the two heroes gaping skyward. Filmed in the unexotic woods of Alberta, Canada, the feature has the amateurish ambiance of a class project, with a grandiose musical score that painfully emphasizes the threadbare quality of the material. The 1991 feature was released to home video in 1994.

The "Back Nine" (news story from MST3KINFO)
The "Back Nine"... Or How We Learned to Stop Worrying and Love 13 Episodes...
The following item appeared in the April 30th edition of The Houston Chronicle:
Mystery Science Theater 3000 will have just 13 shows this year, unlike last year's 22. Instead of producing an additional nine shows, the Sci-Fi Channel has asked MST's creators at Minnesota-based Best Brains to develop other series. However, both Sci-Fi and Best Brains officials say they fully expect MST to return for its 10th season...in early 1999. An announcement assuring a 10th season is expected to come in June.
First, a little background for those who haven't been following this closely: As they did with season eight, The Sci-Fi Channel had a contract with BBI for 13 episodes for season nine. Both contracts also had options for an additional nine episodes, which BBI liked to call "the back nine." In season eight, Sci-Fi exercised that option, giving the season a total of 22 episodes.
We can confirm that Best Brains and The Sci-Fi Channel have decided not to go forward with the "back nine" option this season, and after conferring with the two, we want to add a few more points, based on our conversations with both parties:
Best Brains stressed to us that their relationship with The Sci-Fi Channel remains on very good terms ("this isn't like the Comedy Central situation at all" one BBI staffer said) and that the very last thing Best Brains wants is for fans to send angry letters or emails to the channel over this. We were told that the mood at BBI is upbeat and that they are looking forward to a change of pace. They also said that their informal conversations with Sci-Fi about a potential Season 10 make them very confident that it will happen. For their part, Sci-Fi Channel sources wanted to stress that this decision has nothing to do with a drop in ratings (there hasn't been one, and in fact we're told the ratings have been going up) or with a dissatisfaction on the Channel's part with the show. On the contrary, from what we can gather, the sense at the Channel is that they're so impressed with BBI that they'd like to see more from these very talented people. And, before you ask, we have no information right now about what sort of projects BBI might be developing.
Of course, we're disappointed. But since the end of season seven, we've come to look at every new episode as a blessing that we very easily might not have had. So, despite our disappointment, we're doing our best to look at the glass as being thirteen-twentysecondths full, rather than nine-twentysecondths empty. Your MileageMay Vary, of course.
We're sure there will be those who will see this as the harbinger of the end. Well, with at least one more season very likely, we're not ready to write the obituary just yet. But we've always tried to remember that no TV show runs forever, and this one won't either. When BBI decides that's it, we'll thank them for their hard work and wish them well. In the meantime, we'll enjoy--and be thankful for--the shows we have.
Saturday's Episode information
This week's episode is Horror at Party Beach (817) airing on the Sci-Fi channel at 5pm and 11pm EST time, Saturday April 2, 1998.
Information:
Opening: Tom harmonizes his overtones with the fundamental.
Intro: Servo's "fundamental" turns out to be pre-recorded; meanwhile "Apearlo" and "Brainguyus" settle in with a delighted Callipygeas and suspicious Flavia.
Host segment 1: The manly beach dance is postponed because Mike's trunks are a bit small.
Host segment 2: Apearlo & Brainguyus' jam becomes a beef commercial.
Host segment 3: Tom's a newsy with very up-to-date news.
End: The SOL crew sings "Sodium;" meanwhile as Callipygeas and Brainguyus bond, Apearlo and Flavia trade...er...pleasantries.
Stinger: A less-than-manly beach dance.
