Assumpta is curious when a girl from England turns up, looking for the priest. The girl, Jenny, is in love with him but he tells her that he never has been, nor ever will be her lover. Assumpta finds them having a cosy little dinner together and she appears to be jealous.

However, her mind is put at rest when Peter turns up at Fitzgerald's wanting a room for the night as Jenny has decided to stay at his house. On top of this, he is trying to stop Brian Quigley dumping manure in a field next to a young family. But, Peter soon discovers that the field actually belongs to Assumpta who needs to sell it and he realises that her bar does not do as well as he thought. He sympathises and he works out a way for Assumpta to raise funds to pay the family to move on.

Siobhan advises Assumpta to have a bet on Cilldargan to beat Ballykay in the football match in which Peter is reserve goalie for Ballykay. It goes to penalties and Peter lets in the winning goal for Cilldargan. Assumpta is over the moon but he refuses to confirm that he threw the match.
