When the local TD dies, there is a battle between Brian Quigley and the infamous and much disliked Sean Dooley as to who will be his successor. A journalist turns up to cover the election. The journalist, Leo McGarvey was Assumpta's boyfriend when they were at university together. The whole of Ballykay, fronted by Niamh, is trying to get the two of them back together, saying that Assumpta needs to get out and have some fun, but she has other ideas.
They go out for the night but things get difficult when they arrive home. Leo tells her that he is still in love with her and is disappointed when she refuses to spend the night with him. He confides in Peter who guesses that Leo is still in love with her.
Leo is confused and suspects that Assumpta is now in love with someone else. Peter wants to know exactly what she has said to Leo and he advises Leo to take things slowly and just talk to her. Assumpta is furious when she finds out that Leo has spoken to Peter about their relationship and Leo doesn't understand why.
When the campaign is over, Leo prepares to go home and
gives Assumpta one last chance to go with him but she turns
him down. He sees Peter in the bar and he finally realises
who Assumpta is now in love with. Peter watches them say
goodbye and he is pleased to see Leo leave, alone.
