Kathleen Hendley's house catches fire and as she has no
house insurance, the residents of Ballykay rally round
to help out with refurbishing it, although Assumpta is fed
up that Kathleen sees her attempts to help as the work of
the devil incarnate, and Niamh's offers are greeted with
enormous gratitude. They put the money that they have raised
on a dog but it loses and so they resort to backing Siobhan
in a poker tournament at Fitzgerald's. She faces an old rival
of Brian's but in the small hours of the morning, she manages
to wipe the floor with him and they raise £2900. Meanwhile,
Fr. Mac is putting the squeeze on Peter for a donation to
the parish church, which Peter can't afford.
