Brian Quigley is still having financial problems so, as a last resort he turns to Niamh hoping to borrow the ten thousand pounds that was left her by her mother. She agrees on condition that he makes her a partner and consults her on all decisions. Her new found assertiveness comes from listening to Assumpta who has a bee in her bonnet about women's rights (please, no one mention *girl power*!) and has tried to organise a Women's Group in the face of strong opposition from Kathleen.

Peter is having problems trying to hide that fact that Fr Mac has had a mild heart attack. Fr Mac has insisted that no one be told so Peter is trying to juggle two parishes as well as coping with the fall-out from Assumpta's assertiveness group. Sleeping in the sacristy isn't improving thiings but he still refuses to stay at the pub - he can't face seeing Leo around the place. Assumpta has asked Niamh to tell Brian to give Peter his house back. Peter is relieved until he discovers he'll be sharing with Brian.

Assumpta senses that something isn't quite right with her and Leo but she can't pinpoint what it is. She tries to talk to him but he tells her that talking isn't a good idea as you often hear things you won't like. One night she discovers the opening passage of an article that Leo is writing on his laptop. It seems to suggezt that Leo is struggling to cope with life in the village so she goes to find him but he's nowhere to be found. She sees Peter at the church so she goes in to talk to him, but he doesn't want to talk to her, saying that she never thinks about the consequences of her actions. He is referring to the Women's Group, but there is, of course, more to it than that. Assumpta leaves the church, subdued, not realising that Leo has seen her leave. The look on Leo's face suggests that all has suddenly become clear . . .
