Everybody in Ballykay is making their plans for Christmas. In a bid
to take her mind off Peter, Assumpta is determined to close the
pub on Christmas day and throw a party for her friends from London.
Brendan susses that among the guests, there will be a certain man
under the age of 30 that Assumpta has her eye on. Peter is facing
the prospect of Christmas alone until Fr Mac foists his smart alec
nephew upon him. Timmy introduces himself to Assumpta but doesn't
tell her that he is nearly a priest. Therefore, she is quite taken with him.
However, when her guests have to cancel, she is left facing a lonely
Christmas Day. She calls Peter and invites him over, but he turns her
down. When Kevin O'Kelly falls down a mine shaft, the whole town rallies
round and, what with everyone neglecting their turkeys, the whole town
turns up on Assumpta's doorstep. Timmy tells Peter that he accidentally
killed the Javelin. Peter is devastated, and tells a sympathetic Assumpta.
The whole town ends up spending Christmas Day in Fitzgerald's with a massive
spread laid on. Assumpta and Peter spend the day together after all.
