The candles burned out just as the first light
of the day began to flood into the cave. Bo had woken up a short time ago
and been standing quietly watching his cousin.
“When’d you learn how to do all that stuff?”
Bo asked.
“I don’t know, I never actually had studied
it before, but now I know it.” Luke said.
“You look like you got a black belt in karate
or something.” Bo said. “You feeling better?”
“I am fine.” Luke said, not saying anything
to Bo about the vision he had that night, not wanting to upset Bo in any
way.
Back in town Enos sat talking to Rosco telling
him about everything that had happened the previous night.
“I can’t believe Jesse allowed ‘em to just
take Bo like that. I wouldn’t have done that.” Rosco said.
“Me neither sheriff.” Enos said. “I can’t
believe that Cooter was one of the ones to take Bo and to help Douglas
catch the bird.”
“How mean of Cooter to take that ol’ boy’s
side.” Rosco said, when Enos told of how Cooter helped Douglas.
“Yeah I know. I’m just glad that the boys
walked away.” Enos said.
“Where’d they go after?” Rosco said.
“I promised not to tell. I think it would
be best if nobody really knows . . . just in case someone like Douglas
shows up again.” Enos said.
“Well I won’t tell nobody, you can tell me
where they are you, dipstick.” Rosco said, using a term of affection that
he often refereed to his young deputy by.
“No, sir, sheriff, I promised I wouldn’t tell.”
Enos said.
“I just want to help, them boys don’t have
too many people on their side . . . it feels different being one of the
few that is on their side.” Rosco said.
“All we can do to help is too try to get everybody
else to see that it is Luke who came back and he is good and not a demon.”
Enos said.
Enos left the sheriff’s station to go out
on patrol, talking to a few citizens of Hazzard, who were all adamantly
talking about last night’s events. Soon most people were starting to believe
that it was either Luke, who had returned, or at least a good version and
not a demon of him, after all he had protected Bo the same way Luke had
always protected his younger cousin. Enos saw Cooter working out in front
of his garage and avoided him, knowing that he would only end up getting
into an argument with the mechanic and Enos never was one to like being
involved in an argument.
Boss arrived back in Hazzard, and was confused
by the conversations that he was overhearing, he stormed into the sheriff’s
station determined to get the answers from Rosco.
“Just what is going on? I leave for a few
days and when I come back everything has fallen apart.” Boss said.
“Well it’s kinda a long story Boss.” Rosco
said.
“Well I’m listening.” Boss said pointedly.
“Well you see lil fat buddy it’s like this
. . .” Rosco said and took a deep breathing then began talking quickly
as he filled Boss in on everything. “You see Luke Duke returned from the
grave, and brought Bo home from Atlanta me and Enos believe that it is
him, but Jesse don’t and Cooter don’t, not many people believe it is really
Luke. They may now after last night Enos is trying to get everyone to listen
to reason. I guess Luke is a crow or something come back to avenge his
death and the brutal way he was killed and just be an all around avenger
against evil. Some guy came and said a crow is evil but it ain’t that guy
was the bad guy, and he kidnapped Bo to use him as bait and Luke went and
saved Bo and now they’s hid out somewheres.”
“Rosco have you been drinking?” Boss asked.
“That is the most crazy story I ever heard anyone tell, except may be if
it were on TV.”
“I ain’t been drink and it weren’t on TV,
Boss, it really happened you can ask anyone in town.” Rosco said.
“So Luke returned from the dead?” Boss questioned
more to himself the Rosco, his scheming mind all ready trying to think
up a way to make money off this new turn or events.
“That’s what I’ve been telling you.” Rosco
said.
Boss narrowed his eyes at Rosco, chomping on the end of his cigar.
“I could sell this story to the news and make
Hazzard more then just a small dot on a map, people would come from all
around to see a person who returned from the dead, and did you say he is
a crow?”
“Yeah Boss, but not an actual bird, it’s just
what he is called.” Rosco said.
“I could make a lot of money off of this.”
Boss said.
“No, you can’t, it ain’t right lil fat buddy.”
Rosco objected.
“Bah, I’d give you a percent of the profits.”
Boss said.
“No, I don’t want no percent of the profits
because it ain’t right you shouldn’t be trying to take advantage of the
Dukes, I think they’ve been through enough lately.” Rosco said.
“Well how bad could it be, they got Luke back.”
Boss said.
“Jesse won’t accept that it is Luke which
has made Bo go hide out somewhere with Luke, and with everyone that happened
to poor Luke I think the last thing he wants is media attention.” Rosco
said.
“Mph, you think? You can’t think because you
don’t have a brainium in your cranium.” Boss said nastily.
“I’m serious Boss. It ain’t right to take
advantage of the Duke’s misfortune.” Rosco said.
“Says you.” Boss said, and stormed into his
office, slamming the door and locking it behind himself.
Rosco mumbled and cursed under his breath waving his fist at Boss’s
retreating figure, and glaring at the closed door. “Oh that meadow muffin,
all he cares about is money. It ain’t right to take advantage of the Dukes
. . . not in this situation.”
Boss sat at his desk looking through a book
of phone numbers, and after several tries to big name newspapers, and even
some smaller ones, he was starting to grow flustered when all they did
was laugh.
‘Well what do they know anyways?’ Boss
questioned to himself. “Well I’ll just call the tabloids, they’ll buy anything
. . . and I do own the Hazzard Gazette.”
Boss called several tabloids and gave them his story about, someone
returning from the dead, which were more then willing publish, even without
proof. Boss stuck a fresh cigar in his mouth and lit it, and got up to
head over to the Hazzard Gazette, thinking of all the money he could make.
Rosco watched Boss leaving and wondered what
he was up to, though he knew it was only one thing, causing trouble for
the Dukes. He wished he knew where the boys where to warn them, though
he figured they would probably find out soon enough on their own, as they
had a knack for finding trouble or it finding them.
Boss entered the small building, where the Hazzard Gazette was
published, and walked over to the editor Bryan Smith. Bryan Smith, a tall
man with gray thinning hair, looked up at Boss.
“What can I do for you today Boss?” Bryan
asked.
“I got a story I want you to publish.” Boss
said.
“Oh really? About what?” Bryan asked.
“About Luke Duke’s return from beyond the
grave.” Boss said.
“I don’t know if that is such a good idea
Boss.” Bryan said.
“Bah, it’s a perfect idea.” Boss said.
“I don’t know . . . a lot of people don’t
even think it’s really Luke . . . though after last night I don’t know.”
Bryan said. “Are you sure it’s a good idea?”
“Yes I am sure.” Boss said, and thought to
himself. ‘It’s a perfect money making idea, money for me that is.’
“I still don’t know, a lot of people are still
scared . . . and so am I what if he gets mad about the article and comes
after me?”
“That won’t happen, after the article comes
out more people will know . . . I already called all the tabloids so when
Luke Duke shows his face around here again I’ll make him a deal he can’t
refuse to take this to the media and be shown all over the world.” Boss
said.
“Do you really think that Luke will do that
for you?” Bryan asked. “After all you and the Dukes have never got a long
I don’t think Luke will be about to help you make money.”
“He will if he knows what’s good for him.”
Boss said.
“He’s already dead I don’t see how any threat
would do any good.” Bryan said.
“Not that kind of threat.” Boss said.
“Oh . . . but still if he wouldn’t help you
when he was alive, why would he help now that he is the walking dead?”
Bryan asked.
“Never you mind about that. You just write
that article and I want it in this afternoon’s paper.” Boss said.
“What do you want me write?” Bryan asked.
“How he is a raven . . .”
“You mean crow.” Bryan corrected.
“Yeah crow whatever.” Boss said.
“So you want me saying that it is Luke?” Bryan
asked.
“Yes of course.” Boss said.
“Not everyone believes that . . . Jesse Duke
don’t believe it.” Bryan said.
“Yeah well Bo Duke does, that’s good enough
for me.” Boss said. “Now you get writing and that article had better be
in the paper FRONT page.”
“Yes sir, Boss.” Bryan said.
Boss turned and left, hearing the sound of an old typewriter beginning
to go to work on the article, and he thought to himself that it wouldn’t
be long before he made himself at truck load of money.
Bo and Luke stood outside the cave, the warm
afternoon sun shinning down on them, it seemed like far too peaceful of
a day for there to be anything wrong.
“You know, I think that you should go back
to the farm.” Luke said.
“No way, not without you.” Bo said.
“You know that can’t happen at least not with
things how they are. You however, should go back home.” Luke said.
“It ain’t much like home without you there.”
Bo said. “I can’t go back there right now either, Luke, things ain’t that
easy for me either.”
“I know, Bo, but you have to go back to the
farm and try to work things out with Uncle Jesse.” Luke said.
“I can’t do that, not until he is willing
to listen to me. There is only one side to this and that is that you came
back.” Bo said.
“But I am not back forever, I don’t know how
long I am here for, all I know is I am here until my life is in balance.”
Luke said.
“Well if you ain’t here for long then I am
not leaving you alone, I would rather stay here with you and make the most
of it.” Bo said.
Luke understood how Bo felt and he couldn’t deny that he felt the same
way, he didn’t want to leave his younger cousin alone anymore then Bo wanted
to leave him alone. “I still just think that you should go home. I don’t
need any sleep and can handle spending days or weeks or however long out
here.”
“Yeah well it ain’t like we have never camped
out before, I can handle spending time out here.” Bo said.
Luke sighed, he knew there was no way he could talk Bo into going back
home, and in a way he was glad, knowing it meant that he truly had one
person on his side. Though it meant he’d have to worry about Bo, but he
would also always know where Bo was and be able to protect him a lot easier.
“Okay fine you win, as long as you at least go back to the farm and get
some things for camping out.”
Bo smiled widely. “Yes, sir. Are you gonna at least come with me? You
can sneak into the house.”
“Someone has to keep you out of trouble.”
Luke said.
“Cute.” Bo said, though his smile never faded.
“Let’s get going, cuz.”
Bo and Luke walked through the woods, avoiding
going near any roads, and reached the farm in just under thirty minutes.
Luke went to step around the corner of the house, as Bo approached the
front door. He heard the door bang open and peaked around the corner of
the house to see what was going on, as he didn’t think that Bo would’ve
allowed the door to bang. Bo stopped in his tracks when he came face to
face with his uncle.
“Uncle Jesse . . .” Bo started to say, but
couldn’t find the words.
“I heard about what happened in town last
night.” Jesse said.
“And what did you hear?” Bo asked.
“That you interfered with there being some
justice brought forth, helping to save that demon.” Jesse said.
“That AIN’T what happened. The only person
I helped was Luke.” Bo said. “It was that stranger who was the demon.”
“Luke is dead, accept it, Bo. You have to
accept the truth or that demon will forever control you, and you shall
be destroyed, that is if it hasn’t destroyed you already, maybe it is already
too late to save your soul from it’s grasp.” Jesse said.
“THAT IS NOT THE TRUTH!” Bo yelled angrily.
“You have been able to cloud some people’s
lies but you will never cloud mine, I know in my heart that Luke is gone
and that he can never come back.” Jesse said.
“I haven’t clouded anyone’s mind.” Bo said.
“Yes you have.” Jesse said and threw the Hazzard
Gazette at Bo.
Bo stared at the headline, unable to believe it. “I had nothing to
do with this.”
“I think that you did.” Jesse said.
Luke had enough of standing by quietly while listening to his uncle
accuse Bo of lying. He stepped out from around the corner, and stood next
to Bo.
“Get off my land you demon.” Jesse said.
“I don’t care what you choose to believe but
I am not going to stand by while you accuse Bo of lying.” Luke said.
“All I said is you have deceived him and he
needs to see through YOUR lies.”
“I have never lied to Bo.” Luke said.
“Yes you have you have deceived him.” Jesse
said. “Why don’t you crawl back into what dark pit of Hades you crawled
out of.”
“Uncle Jesse, please . . . you just have to
allow yourself to believe, and you will see the truth.” Bo said.
“I know the truth, THAT,” Jesse said pointing
at Luke, “is a demon and it has deceived you. Used your pain of losing
Luke against you.”
“You claim that I am a demon, so name one
thing that I have done to hurt Bo in anyway.” Luke said.
“What?” Jesse asked.
“You heard my question. Go ahead name one
thing.” Luke said.
Jesse just stared at Luke, unable to think of one thing, Luke had done
to hurt Bo in any way, because there was none.
“You know I haven’t hurt him, and I never
would. You call me evil, when you are the one who has turned your back
on him, handing him over to a mob, people who merely fear what they know
nothing about.” Luke said.
“SILENCE! I have heard enough of your lies,
demon, I have had enough of your deceit.” Jesse said, and reached back
through the door, and grabbed his shotgun and aimed it at Luke.
“Uncle Jesse, put the gun down, you don’t
know what you are doing.” Bo said.
“This is the only way to show you the truth,
Bo.” Jesse said.
“No.” Bo said, stepping in front of Luke,
even though he knew that the bullet wouldn’t kill Luke, he still didn’t
want to see Luke get shot.
“Get out of the way.” Jesse ordered Bo.
Bo shook his head. “No, sir. Are you willing to kill me just to shoot
him? Just to make me see what you claim is the truth, when you are to blind
to see the real truth?”
Jesse kept the gun aimed leveled, and Bo swallowed hard. Luke stepped
out from behind Bo.
“If you want to shoot me you can, but I will
not allow you harm Bo.” Luke said.
Jesse turned to aim the gun at Luke, his hand trembling as his finger
prepared to pull the trigger. He looked at the demon and found that he
couldn’t do it, he couldn’t kill this demon because it looked like his
nephew.
“Get off my farm.” Jesse said coldly.
“Once I get what I came here to get we will
be leaving.” Bo said.
“You are staying that demon is leaving.” Jesse
said.
“No, sir, wherever Luke goes, I go to.” Bo
said.
“Leave now.” Jesse said, even though it broke
it heart, to think that after this he doubt would’ve lost his youngest
nephew forever, and it tore his heart into two to think off losing both
of his nephews so close together.
“Fine.” Bo said angrily, and turned to walk
over to the General.
Luke followed Bo and the two young men climbed in through the window
and slid into their car. Bo started the car, the powerful engine roared
to life, and then he sped away from the farm in a cloud of dust.
“Well that was a real successful venture.”
Bo said sarcastically.
“Yeah. Thing is now you didn’t get any of
the supplies.” Luke said.
“I can get some from in town or Enos will
help out.” Bo said.
“I guess so.” Luke said.
“I think you should see today’s paper.” Bo
said and handed Luke the paper. “I think now that Boss is back in town
that he plans on making money off of this.”
Luke looked at the Hazzard Gazette:
Luke Duke Returns From The Grave
Article by: Bryan Smith
As many people have heard, Luke Duke, as returned from the great beyond, and is now a crow. No not the bird. Legends say a soul returns as a “crow” to right wrong and to avenge their death, which to return has to have been a brutal death. And in the case of Luke Duke, this is true, as it was only a short time ago that Luke was murdered after he and his younger cousin Bo were held captive by a deranged madman. Some people believe this legend is true as Luke returned and saved the life of his cousin Bo, and everyone knows that they were like brothers and that for this crow to do that it truly must be Luke. However others believe that this “crow” is actually a demon from the darkest depths of hell and has came back and deceived people into thinking he is really Luke. But, after last night’s incident opinions have been greatly swayed and most citizens believe that Luke Duke has truly returned from the grave. Though very few have actually seen him, perhaps if he appears in town the question can be solved once and for all and the whole world will finally know the answer the question: “Is it Luke Duke or is it a demon?”
Luke crumbled the paper into a ball, and tossed it into the backseat.
“Well at least it is just the Hazzard Gazette
and not some major newspaper, I mean only people in Hazzard get that paper
and most everyone had already heard all about it.” Bo said.
“Unless Boss called other newspapers, you
know as well as I do that the only “big” stories Bryan writes are under
Boss’s direction.” Luke said.
“I don’t think any other major newspapers
would take the story, I mean it is kinda unbelievable and if I weren’t
sitting here in the car with you I wouldn’t believe it myself.” Bo said.
“True. I just hope he didn’t call all the
tabloids.” Luke said.
“Nobody believes anything they read in those.”
Bo said.
“Enough people do to bring some people to
Hazzard searching for me and I would rather not have my presence that known
. . . I mean it could bring another snake to Hazzard.” Luke said.
Bo swallowed hard at the thought of the last thing Luke said, fearing
if another snake did show up that Luke’s life would again be in danger.
“I guess we’ll have to wait and find out.”
“Yeah I guess, but if Boss is trying to make
money off of this I am sure that he has sold the story.” Luke said.
“True.” Bo said.
As Bo sped along the back road, the bright
orange car sped past a patrol car, which was sitting in one of its typical
speed traps. Enos flipped on the siren and sped after the General Lee,
thinking how it seemed like things were completely normal.
“It’s Enos.” Bo said. “Should we stop or make
him catch us?”
“Just stop and see what he wants.” Luke said.
“Yes, sir.” Bo said, slowing the car down
and pulling over to the side of the road bringing the car to a complete
stop.
Enos pulled over behind them, just narrowly missing rear ending the
orange car. Enos climbed out of his car and made his way up alongside the
General, and leaned over and looked in through the driver’s side window.
“Hey, Bo. Hey, Luke.”
“Hey Enos.” Bo and Luke said at the same time.
“Did y’all see the Hazzard Gazette this afternoon?”
Enos asked.
“Yeah we sure did.” Bo said.
“Do you know if Boss gave this story to anyone
else?” Luke asked.
“He was trying to but I don’t think anyone
wanted it, at least no news stations or big newspapers. Rosco told me that
Boss is trying to make money off of this, though the sheriff don’t want
any part of this.” Enos said.
“Now there’s a switch.” Bo said, in a joking
tone.
“Figures Boss is trying to make money off
of this.” Luke said.
“Maybe you should leave Hazzard for a little
while, just until all of his blows over.” Enos suggested.
“No, I am not about to run away from this.”
Luke said. “Even if I did leave for a while the moment I returned all of
this would start right back up again.”
“We have always managed to beat out Boss before
and we will do it again.” Bo added.
“Yeah once Boss finds he can’t make no money
he’ll back off and forget all about it. In the meantime the sheriff said
he’d do all he could do to help, he tried to talk Boss out of it, though
Boss wouldn’t listen.” Enos said.
“So is this why you pulled us over, or did
you pull us over to give us a speeding ticket?” Bo asked.
“Just pulled you over to warn about what Boss
was doing.” Enos said.
“Well thanks for the warning.” Bo said. “Actually,
need to ask you for a favour.”
“Sure you name it.” Enos said. “I’ll do anything
I can to help.”
“I need some supplies, I tried to get them
from the farm but things with Uncle Jesse have gone downhill even more,
if that’s possible, so I couldn’t get them.” Bo said.
“I can go to y’alls farm and get them for
ya.” Enos said.
“Uncle Jesse wouldn’t allow that and I think
it would be best if he didn’t know that you know where we are staying,
don’t want to get you into any trouble.” Bo said.
“Well okay, tell me what you need and I’ll
see if I got it, anything I don’t got I’ll get for you.” Enos said.
“Much obliged Enos.” Luke said.
“No problem, so what do you need?” Enos asked.
“Actually, I never thought before some of
the stuff might be in the trunk of the General, I don’t remember what is
all in there.” Bo said, and grabbed the keys.
Bo and Luke climbed out of the car, and the three men went around to
the back of the car.
“Stopped a little closed didn’t you?” Bo teased
Enos, having just enough room to step between the two cars.
“Sorry about that.” Enos said.
“Well at least you didn’t hit us.” Luke said.
Bo opened the trunk, and they looked to see what all was in the trunk
of the car. As they looked through the trunk of the car, an old beat up
green pick up truck passed by. The driver of the truck was so busy gawking
at Luke’s presence that he nearly ran off the road.
“Great! This road, barely sees a single car
in an hour and there would have to be someone else on it now.” Luke said.
“You can’t stay hidden forever besides, this
at least this ain’t close to where we are staying hid out.” Bo said.
Luke nodded, in reluctant agreement, thinking to himself that he would
rather forever stay hid from the public’s watchful eye.
“So what all do you need me to pick for ya?”
Enos asked.
“Just need a sleeping bag, or some extra blankets,
and some food.” Bo said. “I still have my clothes from Atlanta and some
of the camping gear and our bows and arrows are still in here from before
. . .” Bo’s voice trailed off not wanting to finish that sentence. Even
though Luke was back he still hard a time dealing with what had happened
and couldn’t say, ‘before Luke was killed.’
“Yeah okay, no problem I got all that stuff
back at home.” Enos said.
“Thanks a lot, Enos.” Bo said.
“Anything you need, Luke?” Enos asked.
“No, not given my current situation.” Luke
replied.
“Oh . . . okay.” Enos said. “Where do you
want me to bring this stuff to ya at?”
“Just leave, by the old cabin on Sunset Lake,
we’ll pick it up there.” Luke said, deciding it was best for Enos not to
go near the caves in case someone tried to follow him.
“Okay. Take care.” Enos said, and rushed back
to his patrol car and then sped down the road.
Bo and Luke walked back and climbed into their car.
“Nice to know we at least have one person
on our side.” Bo said.
“Yeah.” Luke said.
Luke wondered how things would’ve been if Bo had taken the same view
as Jesse, in thinking he was a demon. He doubted he would be able to carry
on without his younger cousin’s support thinking how things always had
been that way, they had always been there for each other, supporting each
other and were more like brothers then they were cousins.
Enos gathered the things together, that the
Duke boys had asked him to bring them, and stuffed it all into one large
duffel bag. He ran back out to his patrol car, hoping that nobody would
stop him to ask him what he was doing. He breathed a sigh of relief as
he got into his car and started the engine, because he had avoided any
questions from the citizens of Hazzard. He made record time in reaching
the old dilapidated cabin, which sat on the edge of the water at Sunset
Pond. He left the bag in a clump of bushes then headed back into town.
Enos walked into the Sheriff’s station and
saw Rosco standing by the desk, which was by the holding cell, seeing the
Sheriff flipping through a stack of papers, Boss Hogg was also there, talking
on the phone, attempting to make a business arrangement. Rosco looked up
when he heard the double doors, of the sheriff’s station, swing open.
“Enos, you dipstick, where have you been?
I’ve been tryin and tryin to reach on the CB.”
“I’m sorry sheriff . . . there was just some
things that I had to take care of.”
“Like what? What could be more important then
your job?” Rosco asked.
“I was just helping a friend.” Enos said.
“A friend . . .OH a FRIEND.” Rosco said, realization
dawning on him about where Enos had been.
Boss had been listening to the conversation and hung up the phone and
approached Enos.
“And just who were you helping?” Boss asked.
“Just a friend Mr. Hogg.” Enos said.
“Oh really, and would this “friend” happen
to have a last name of Duke?” Boss asked.
“Umm . . .” Enos said, finding it hard to
tell a fib, even if it was for the best, he was just never one to tell
a lie.
“Oh never you mind that. Enos you just get
back out on patrol.” Rosco said, worrying that Enos would crack and give
the location of where Bo and Luke where hiding out.
“I am police commissioner around here, now
you answer MY question.” Boss said. “It was them Duke boys you were helping
out wasn’t it?”
Enos just stood there not too sure of what to say.
“You answer my question NOW or else you’re
fired.” Boss said.
“I . . . I . . .” Enos stammered.
“Oh just hush, Enos.” Rosco said then turned
his attention to Boss. “You can’t fire Enos.”
“Oh yes I can, I can do anything I want.”
Boss said. “You got two seconds to answer my question.
“I was helping Bo.” Enos broke down and confessed.
“What about Luke?” Boss asked.
“No just Bo.” Enos replied honestly.
“What did you do to help him?” Boss asked.
“I gave him some supplies.” Enos said, all
the while Rosco was giving him a look to be quiet.
“What kind of supplies?” Boss asked, beginning
to grow agitated with how slowly Enos was answering his questions, and
the brief responses he was giving, though he was determined to make Enos
tell him where the Duke boys where one way or another.
“Some stuff for camping out, since Jesse won’t
let him in the house.” Enos said.
“So he’s camping out with Luke? Where at?”
“I don’t know where he’s at.” Enos said.
“I think that you do.” Boss said.
“No, sir, honestly I don’t, he never said.”
Enos said, after all he wasn’t sure if they had stayed at the caves or
not.
“Mph.”
Boss walked away, going into his office, he figure he could send out
a search party to find the boys after all Hazzard wasn’t that big of a
place that they could stay hid for very long.
Rosco walked over to Enos.
“Enos you dipstick, how could you tell Boss
all that stuff?”
“I’m sorry sheriff he drug it outta me . .
. I couldn’t lie.” Enos said.
“At least you didn’t him where the boys are
at.” Rosco said.
“Well I don’t rightly know where they are
at “now.”” Enos said, with a smile.
Rosco understood the smile and gave wide smile, relieved that Enos
had actually been able to tell the truth without lying.
“So how was Bo?”
“As well as can be expected.” Enos said, then
softly added. “Won’t be doing good if Boss keeps trying to find away to
make money off of this.”
“Yeah I know, they don’t need any more problems
then they got already.” Rosco said. “I wish I could talk him out of this,
but once that meadow muffin gets the idea into his idea that he can make
money he never gives up.”
“This is one time he shouldn’t be. It ain’t
right and it ain’t proper to try to make money off of other people’s misfortune.”
Enos said.
“That’s never stopped Boss before.” Rosco
said. “It just hope them Duke boys can out smart Boss just like they have
always done before.”
Bo and Luke waited awhile before going to
pick up the supplies.
“I hope he didn’t run into any problems.”
Bo said. You know how Enos can’t always keep a secret if Boss questions
him . . .”
“I know, but, I don’t think that he’ll say
anything. Or at least not tell Boss where we are staying.” Luke said.
“I hope so. But I guess if he had Boss would’ve
already been to the caves to get us . . .or here waiting.” Bo said.
“There is nobody around here for miles.” Luke
said.
“How can you be so sure . . . oh yeah never
mind.” Bo said.
Luke spotted the duffel, and picked it up, and slung the strap over
