Bo and Luke went through the portal and landed on
the other side in a small park. They looked around at where they had landed.
They were standing in the middle of a park. There were tall trees, flowers,
there a few benches scattered along the path way. A few feet from them
was a large water fountain. Surrounding the park were a number of buildings,
none of which that looked familiar to the boys.
"Unless Hazzard has changed since we have
been gone, I don't think this is home." Luke said looking around at their
surroundings.
"Guess not." Bo said rather nonchalantly.
He was still leaning on Luke's shoulder. His head was pounding and he felt
like he was going to pass out.
"Are you okay?" Luke asked worriedly.
"Yeah. I just feel like I got hit by a truck
is all." Bo responded.
"Well maybe we should find a drug store and
get you some aspirin." Luke said.
"Sounds good to me." Bo said.
They walked out of the park as they left the park they saw a sign that
said Hazzard Gardens. They walked down what appeared to be the main street,
to try to find a drug store.
"At least this world don't appear to be in
the middle of no big war." Luke commented.
"Let's hope it ain't. Actually this places
is a lot like home, except for the buildings." Bo said.
The other people that were walking down the street
paid no attention to the boys. Bo was right it did seem like home. The
people all appeared to be the same and nothing else appeared to be different.
"I wonder what is different about this place?"
Luke wondered out loud.
"I'm sure that we will find out sooner or
later, knowing our luck." Bo said.
"That's for sure." Luke agreed.
The boys luck usually has them ending up in
the wrong place at the wrong time. Their luck can be good but it
can also be bad. They never have to go looking for trouble, trouble always
finds them.
Luke noticed a drug store on the far side of the
street. "There's a drug store." he said pointing across the street to it.
They crossed the street and stood in front of the store. A sign in
the window read: Davenport Pharmacy.
"Well this sure ain't home." Bo said with
a smile as he opened the door.
"That's for sure." Luke said as he followed
Bo into the store.
Behind the counter stood Cooter Davenport, his hair was cut short and
he was wearing a white lab coat. He watched the two strangers as they walked
down the aisles of his store.
"Ain't there just something odd about that?"
Bo asked softly, motioning slightly to where Cooter was.
"Yeah. I wonder who runs the garage then."
Luke said.
"Probably Boss Hogg or Rosco." Bo said.
They found the aspirin. Luke picked up a bottle and headed towards
the counter. As they walked towards the counter they passed a display of
moonshine.
Bo smiled. "And to think we are on probation for running that stuff
back home. Here it is sold openly."
Luke smiled. "Yeah. I wonder what else is different here. So far is
almost like home."
They went up to the counter.
"Will this be everything?" Cooter asked, in
a very professional sounding voice.
"Yeah that's all." Luke said as he reached
into his pocket to take out his money.
"The total is $4.95." Cooter said.
Luke took out a five dollar bill and handed it to Cooter. Cooter stared
at the bill for a moment, then he reached under the counter and pressed
an alarm button, which trigged bars to drop over the door and window.
"What's going on?" Luke asked.
"Save it you yank." Cooter said, speaking
the word yank as though it left a bitter taste in his mouth.
The door was opened from the outside and four soldiers entered the
drug store.
"Hold it right there, you yankees." one of
the soldiers demanded.
Bo and Luke just stood there. They knew they had no chance of escaping
as they didn't know their way around this world.
One of the soldiers walked over and grabbed
Bo and shoved him against the counter. He roughly twisted Bo's arm
behind his back to handcuff him. Bo flinched at the pain.
"You can't do that." Luke said moving to help
Bo.
"You can not tell us what we can and can not
do, scum." one of the other soldiers said. Then with no warning he smacked
Luke across the side of the head.
Luke stumbled backwards and lost his footing. He fell against the counter,
striking his head. Luke felt blackness over take his mind as he fell into
unconsciousness.
The soldier finished putting the handcuffs on Bo then turned him around.
Bo saw Luke laying on the ground.
"Luke . . ." Bo said his voice filled with
concern for his cousin. He struggled to get away from the soldier but his
attempts were in vain.
The soldier led Bo out of the store. Outside the
store were a number of bystanders, who stood watching and whispering to
each other as Bo walked past.. Bo kept his head hung down trying to ignore
all the people, all he was worried about now was if Luke was okay. The
soldier shoved him into the back seat of a black car, that's windows were
covered with bars. The car then sped away.
In the store Luke still lay unconscious on
the floor. Two soldiers picked up Luke and carried him outside. They threw
him into the back seat of a car, that looked identical to the one that
Bo was taken away in. The soldiers got into the car and drove off in the
same direction as the other car had went.
Bo had been put in a cell in a prison. He
sat leaning against the back wall of the small cell. He heard the footsteps
of someone approaching and looked up to see who was there. Two soldiers
were, carrying Luke's limp body. They they opened the cell door and took
a couple steps in, then tossed Luke into the cell with Bo. They quickly
left the cell, locking the door behind them. Bo went over to where Luke
lay, he carefully rolled Luke onto his back. He gently held Luke's head
on his knee.
"Luke wake up." Bo said.
"Don't make much a difference after your trial
both of you will be dead." one of the soldiers said smiling.
Bo looked up and glared at the solider. The soldier actually became
frightened by the look Bo had given him and took a step back. Both of the
soldiers then left.
Bo looked down at Luke. "Luke please wake
up. Don't leave me alone." Bo said, biting back the tears that burned his
eyes. "Luke you have to wake up." Bo's voice was fraught with worry that
Luke wouldn't wake up.
Luke started to wake up. Bo gave a sigh of relief and then helped Luke
sit up. Luke rubbed the back of his neck.
"Are you okay?" Bo asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Luke said. "Where are we?"
Luke asked glancing around the small cell.
"I don't really know. All I know is we are
suppose to have some kind of trial after which we are . . ." Bo's voice
trailed off, and he looked away from Luke.
"We are what?" Luke asked.
"We are to be executed." Bo said.
"What? Why?" Luke asked.
"I have no idea." Bo said.
They sat in silence for a few minutes, before two soldiers came back
down to the cell.
"Time for you boys to have your trial." one
soldier said, smiling as he unlocked the cell.
"What if we don't go to this trial?" Luke
asked.
"There is no choice."
The soldiers then came into the cell.
"Now get up. And don't try nothing or you'll
have a bullet passing through ya."
"What is all this about anyways?" Luke asked
as he stood up.
"Playing stupid won't help you anyway. You
used your yankee money and that is considered treason against the Confederate
States of America."
"We can explain, this is all really just a
misunderstanding." Luke said.
"Save for your trial."
The soldiers led Bo and Luke out of the cell
and to a small office. The office had a large desk, behind which was a
chair that was facing a window. There was also a small wood bench.
"Sit." the soldier demanded, motioning to
the bench,
Bo and Luke figured it was best not argue and they sat down on the
bench. The person who sat in the chair kept their back to Bo and Luke.
"State your names." the man sitting in the
chair said.
"I'm Luke Duke."
"Bo Duke."
"You yankees are liars." the man in the chair
said, then he turned to face the boys.
The man in the chair was an older man he had dark
hair and a bread and moustache that was beginning to grey with age. He
was dressed in a grey suit with a white shirt. The immediately recognized
him as their Uncle Jesse. They exchanged a shocked look, unable to believe
what they were seeing.
"We ain't lying Uncle Jesse." Bo said.
Luke nudged Bo and gave him a look as though to say: "Remember he is
not OUR Uncle Jesse."
"I am not your uncle. I have no nephews. I
was an only child, my mother died shortly after I was born. How dare you
speak such lies." Jesse said his voice was filled with anger.
"Sir, we are not liars. We are from another
world, on which what we are saying is the truth." Luke said.
"That is the dumbest lie I have ever heard.
There is no such thing as other worlds." Jesse said.
"We never used to think so either until we
accidentally crossed worlds." Bo said.
A clear plastic bag was laying on the table, in it was the boys wallets.
Jesse took them out of the bag and looked at their i.d's.
"Where did you get these fake i.d's?" Jesse
asked holding up their drivers licences.
"They are not fake. We are not from this world,
we are from another world." Luke said.
Jesse scowled at Luke's response. "Where did you get this yankee money?"
"‘Cause on our world the South lost the war,
so that is the money we use." Bo said.
"Stop with your lies of being from another
world. If you tell the truth and tell where you got all this yankee stuff
from you will receive a reduced sentence, such as life in prison appossed
to execution." Jesse said.
"We are not lying, sir." Luke said.
"Since you refuse to tell the truth your punishment
for treason is execution. You are to be hung at noon today in Hazzard Square."
Jesse said.
Neither Bo nor Luke knew what to say. Luke
glanced over at Bo and noticed that he had gone extremely pale. Luke realized
that Bo was having trouble dealing with everything that happened. He knew
the last world had been rough on Bo and this world was even worse. Luke
knew that he was going to have to remain strong for the both of them.
They were taken back to the cell. Bo went
and sat against the back wall. He sat staring down at the ground. Luke
could tell that Bo was having a hard time dealing with everything that
was happening. He was also worried that there was something else wrong,
he could never remember seeing Bo look so depressed or being so quiet.
"Hey Bo are you okay?" Luke asked, there was
a hint of concern in his voice.
Bo didn't respond nor did he even look up at Luke. Bo wanted to hide
the pain in his eyes from Luke, he didn't want Luke to know how bad he
was hurting.
"It's going to be okay you know." Luke said
trying to find the words to ease Bo's worries.
Still Bo didn't respond or move.
"Come on Bo don't worry about it." Luke knelt
down in front of Bo and placed a hand on his shoulder, "Look at me would
ya."
Bo looked up at Luke. Luke could see all the fear and pain in Bo's
eyes.
"We are going to get through this. We will
get out of this. I promise." Luke said reassuringly, then sat down next
to Bo, and placed an arm around his shoulder. "You do trust me, don't you?"
"Of course." Bo said.
Bo leaned his head against Luke's shoulder. He knew that he should
try to remain strong, but he just couldn't find it in himself.
"It's going to be okay. We are going to make
it back home." Luke said, more to himself then to Bo.
It was already 11:30 and Luke still couldn't
think of what to do. Bo had fallen into a light sleep.
Luke looked at Bo, and thought to himself. "Don't worry cousin.
I won't let anything happen to you."
Noon was quickly approaching, outside Hazzard
Square was being prepared for the boys public execution. It was minutes
before noon and Luke still had not come up with a plan for the two of them
to get away.
It was moments before noon, soldiers came
down to get Bo and Luke. They handcuffed Bo and Luke's hands behind their
backs and took them up to Hazzard Square. Many people had gathered in Hazzard
Square to witness their execution. In the centre of the square was a large
gallow with two nooses. The executioner stood at the top of the stairs
of the gallow, he was medium built, and had a black hood on that concealed
his face. Bo and Luke were led up the stairs and stood by the nooses. The
solider left the platform. Jesse stood on a balcony of a building facing
the gallows.
"For the crime of treason against the Confederate
States of America you are sentenced to death by way of hanging." Jesse
said, then nodded to the executioner to begin the executions.
The executioner slid the nooses around Bo and Luke's neck.
Bo stood staring blankly out into the crowd,
his eyes vacant of any expression. Luke glanced over at Bo, he realized
that he had let him down. He couldn't think of what to do or say to get
them out of this. The only thing that Luke could think of was to try to
get them to spare Bo's life, by saying Bo knew nothing of the yankee money.
However, Luke knew that he could never convince these people of that and
also that Bo wouldn't go for that.
Suddenly a smoke bomb exploded near the gallows
followed immediately by two more. The executioner took off his mask, it
was Rosco P. Coltrane. Rosco took the nooses off the boys necks and led
the off the gallows and into a near by car that was sitting idling in a
near by alley. The immediately recognized the driver to be J.D. Hogg. The
car sped away.
"We're much obliged for your help." Luke said.
"Think nothing of it. We don't agree with
the system." Rosco said, then picked up a pair of bolt cutters and cut
the handcuffs from Bo and Luke's wrists.
By the time the smoke cleared from Hazzard
Square, they found that Bo and Luke were gone.
"Find them and bring them back NOW!" Jesse
demanded to his soldiers.
The soldiers scrambled to begin to search for Bo and Luke.
The car pulled to a stop in Bronson's Canyon
and the four of them walked into an old abandoned building, where there
was three other people.
"My name is J.D. Hogg, this is Rosco Coltrane,
and this my family my wife Lulu, my son Edward, and my nephew Huggie."
Boss said motioning to each of them.
"Who are you and why are you accused of treason?"
Rosco asked.
"I'm Luke Duke, and this is my cousin Bo."
"I thought Jesse was the only Duke." J.D said.
"That is a long story. It sounds outrageous
but it is the truth." Luke started to say.
"Why's that?" Edward asked.
"Me and Bo is from a different world, that
is totally different from your world."
"What is your world like?" Huggie asked.
"Well the north won, so we use what here is
considered yankee money, that is why we were accused of treason. On our
world Jesse is our uncle, he is a very different person, he is kind . .
." Luke said, his voice trailed off.
Bo still remained quiet his eyes appeared to be lost deep in thought.
Luke looked over at him worriedly, but none of the others noticed Bo's
silence.
"Is there any corruption on your world?" Lulu
asked.
"Yes but not the same. Our county commissioner
is corrupt but isn't really evil." Luke said.
"Who is the county commissioner on your world?"
J.D. asked.
"You are, and Rosco is sheriff." Luke answered.
"Are you serious?" J.D questioned.
"Yeah I am serious. Though I wouldn't say
corrupt like this world is. When is comes down to it they aren't really
that bad. They just try to frame us for violation of probation, because
we are always stopping their money making schemes." Luke said.
"Why are you on probation?" Lulu asked.
"We got caught running moonshine." Luke said.
A few hours passed and they continued to compare
the differences between their two worlds. Bo didn't talk at all. Luke started
to grow worried about Bo. A short time later Luke and Bo were sitting on
the couch, away from the others.
"Are you okay?" Luke asked. "You haven't spoken
a word in hours."
Bo looked at Luke. "I'm fine I was just thinking."
"About what?" Luke asked.
"Everything. What is happening what has happened.
About him and wondering if we will ever see it again." Bo said.
"We will get home, you just have to keep the
faith." Luke said trying to reassure Bo.
"Yeah." Bo replied nonchalantly.
Meanwhile back in town riots had broken out,
they rioters had started to burning down the buildings. Fires ragged, burning
out of control. Soldiers tried to stop the rioters but they had little
effect on stopping them.
The soldiers that were out looking for Bo
and Luke found where they were hid out.
Edward glanced out the window. "They've found us." panic filled his
voice.
The soldiers started to douse the small old house with gasoline.
"Alright you yankees, come out now or we torch
this place." on soldier warned.
After a moment with no response from the house, the solider toss a
match into a pool of gasoline. The house was engulfed in flames, and quickly
filled with smoke.
"There is a secret exit, follow me." Rosco
said.
Bo and Luke and all the others followed Rosco, trying
to avoid being burned by the flames, and to keep from inhaling too much
smoke. They all made it out without getting hurt. But were spotted by the
soldiers. They quickly ran for the car, narrowly avoiding being hit by
bullets. J.D. was driving. They were followed by the two cars driven by
the soldiers. J.D tried to lose them but couldn't. They drove into town
and saw all the rioters and that half of Hazzard had already burned to
the ground. They were just outside the far side of the town limits, and
they still were being pursued by the soldiers. Luke was sitting in the
back seat next to Bo.
"Let me drive." Luke said, speaking for the
first time in since they had got into the car.
J.D. nodded. Luke climbed over the seat carefully and they changed
driver's without stopping. Luke turned the car off the road and sped across
the countryside. The other cars continued to follow. They were approaching
Hazzard Creek, Luke accelerated the car.
"How well does you car fly?" Luke asked.
"What?" J.D asked.
Bo smiled knowing what Luke was talking about, for the first time things
actually felt close to normal. "You'll see. If I was y'all I'd hold on
tight."
Luke smiled, glad to hear Bo talking again and not sounding so depressed.
The car then became airborne and sailed across the creek and landed on
the other side. The two pursuing cars landed in the middle of the creek.
Luke stopped the car a few miles down the road and everyone got
out. A blue portal opened up a few feet away from them.
"Is that the portal you were talking about?"
Edward asked.
"Yeah it is." Bo said.
"I guess you boys will be leaving now. Good
Luck." J.D said.
"Hope you get back home." Rosco said.
"Thanks." Luke said.
Bo and Luke then walked into the portal, which closed shut behind them.
