Cady McClain joined the cast of All My Children in October 1988, as the
very pretty, sweet and naive Dixie Cooney. Cady won an Emmy Award for her portrayal of
Dixie in 1990 (Yeah!!! Cried buckets when she won... 1989 was really one of Cady's
greatest years on AMC. Everything from the "Adam driving Dixie crazy plot" to
"T&D FINALLY getting together" was magnificent. Do you remember what she
said about Michael Knight? "I love you! I adore you! You make my day shine with
happiness!" aaahhh... how sweet!) a Soap Opera Digest Award for Best Heroine, and she
and Michael won Soap Opera Update's MVP award for best couple in 1994.
Prior to AMC, Cady performed on "Cheers", "St. Elsewhere", "Lou
Grant", "Spenser: For Hire", and "One Big Family". She also
appeared in the feature films "My favorite Year" , "Pennies from
Heaven" (she played one of the students. If you rent the movie, look for Cady in the
scene where the kids dance and play music, part of their teacher's fantasy sequence. Took
me a while to figure out which one was Cady, so I'll give you a little hint... she has
blond hair and glasses in the movie) and "Simply Justice (she was wonderful in it....
even though she was in a coma for like half the movie!!)". And if you're lucky to
catch reruns of old Tv movies, Cady can be seen in "Who Will Love My Children?",
"Robert Kennedy and His Times", and "Just a Regular Kid".
Cady is also a brilliant and accomplished stage actress and has appeared in "Comedy
of Errors", "Much Ado About Nothing", "Barefoot in the park",
"Quiet on the Set" ,"Self Offense", "The Red Address",
"Inventions of Farewell" and "Mona 7" (a one woman play, she wrote,
produced and starred in)... and several other plays.
Aside from being an amazing television and stage actress, Cady is a very gifted artist and
musician. She is currently attending New York's School of visual Arts and would love to
illustrate her own children's book someday. Cady began writing music several years ago,
and has done numerous performances showcasing her musical talents. She was a guest on the
premiere of the cable television show "Biggers and Summers", where she performed
her original song "Harmony". Long-time fans surely remember Cady singing
"You are My Sunshine"(little Jr was SO adorable) and also the beautiful song
that played when Dixie was hanging from a tree during T&D's Canadian
adventure"Goodbye, if only we could have said goodbye...."(terrific song... oh
and the flashback sequence that played while Cady sang made the scene an unforgettable 4
hanky moment).
Beloved Cady left AMC in May 1996, after 8 years in Pine Valley. After a two year absence,
she has returned to her role as Dixie. Welcome back Cady.... you've been
missed!!
