MICHAEL E. KNIGHT

An acting career had been Michael's ambition since he was 12, and the very talented actor earned his degree in theater arts at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. He then came to New York for more technical training at the Circle in the Square Theater. Prior to AMC, Michael appeared in the stage productions of "Absurd Person Singular" and "Enemies" as well as in the feature film "Baby, It's You". And then Michael took over the role of Tad Martin in 1983 and his brilliant performance as Tad has won him two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Younger Leading Actor in a Drama Series (1986 and 1987).

During his first stint on AMC, Michael produced and starred in the off-Broadway production of "Call Back- A Duel in One Act" in 1984. In 1986, he left the show for a short time to pursue acting projects on the West Coast, which included a starring role in the feature film "Date With An Angel" (If you haven't seen it yet, you should definitely rent it... the story itself is lame, but MEK is very, very good in the movie) and various prime-time appearances. Michael returned to AMC in late 1988 and it was shortly after his return that MEK's Tad started interacting with Dixie Cooney (The buildup of T&D's relationship was truly wonderful... some of MEK and Cady's best work ever).

While Dixie was mourning her true love, Michael starred in the play "Run for Your Wife"; completed a lead role in the feature film "Hexed", appeared in a variety of prime-time series including" Murder, She Wrote", "Dear John" and "Grapevine". It was also during this time away from AMC that Michael met and fell in love with Catherine Hickland, and the two married in 1992.

Michael finally came back to AMC in late 1992 and fans were thrilled to have their favorite hero back in Pine Valley. Despite his busy schedule on AMC, Michael has appeared in the plays "Wrong Turn at Lungfish" and "Cakewalk" and in the ABC Tv Movie "She Stood Alone: The Tailhook Scandal".

After Cady's departure from AMC, Michael's Tad was involved with Gloria Marsh (a pairing that most fans didn't like). TPTB decided to bring in a new love interest for Tad, Camille, but die-hard T&D fans knew that someday Cady would come back to the show and that Tad would be reunited with his one true love Dixie.
