5/19/99: Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace opens in North American theaters today! Sixteen years after the last episode of the story, the very first chapter of the Star Wars saga finally unfolds before the eyes of the movie-going public. Here is a list of the theaters currentily showing Episode 1, including some theaters which will be presenting the movie 24-hours a day. 4/23/99: Tickets will be made available for advance sales on Wednesday, May 12th at 3:00pm eastern daylight time at those theatres and ticket outlets in the United States and Canada that offer advance ticketing. Theatre owners have agreed to make every resonable effort to first accomodate those fans already standing in line. In a continuing effort to discourage scalping, a maximum of 12 tickets may be purchased per customer. 4/18/99: This week's Time Magazine features a story on Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace, including a conversation between George Lucas and Bill Moyers about the mythos of Star Wars. The article, is due on stands Monday. You can also check it out at Time Web Site now. 4/3/99: The May issue of Premiere has four different Episode-1: The Phantom Menace covers. Premiere devotes 38 pages to the film with behind-the-scenes photos, a Star Wars family tree, and interviews with Lucas and the film's stars. 3/25/99: The air date for 60 Minutes' coverage of Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace has been confirmed for this Sunday, March 28th. Check your local listings for the time of broadcast in your area. 3/24/99: 20th Century Fox, and Lucasfilm, have decided, because of possible scalping or auctioning off of tickets, that there families won't be able to buy tickets in advance 3/17/99: A life-size X-wing fighter created for a 1995 video promotion and previously on display in Japan will make its way to the U.S. for this spring's Star Wars Celebration. Although the offical Star Wars fan club reveals that prospective Rebel pilots won't be allowed to take the fighter for a test flight, fans will be able to get close enough to take some very exciting photos. Tickets to the Celebration, which will be held from April 30- May 2, 1999 in Denver, Colorado, can be purchased through shop.starwars.com 3/16/99: The popularity of the Star Wars: Episode 1 trailer has set an internet record with over 3.5 million downloads since it first premiered on the joint Lucasfilm/Apple web site last Thursday, March 11. 3/16/99: 60 Minutes will present a profile of George Lucas, tentatively scheduled for Sunday, March 28, 1999. As Episode-1 The Phantom Menace nears completion and races toward its May 19th release date, 60 Minutes takes a look at what occupies on Lucas' mind during the final stages of post-production on his latest journey to the heart of Star Wars universe. 3/13/99: The new trailer for Episode 1 runs 2minutes and 30seconds, just a little longer than the teaser trailer. Whereas the teaser trailer focused on the story of Anakin Skywalker, the new trailer spans more of the full story arc, offering a glimpse at the scope of the whole movie. 3/12/99: George Lucas announced that the digital projection of Episode 1 will take place on four screens beginning June 18. 1999. It will be the first widely released film in digital projection. 3/11/99: George Lucas has said that the release date of Episode 1 will be changed from May 21st to May19th. 3/11/99: There is a newly made Star Wars Episode 1 poster that is for sale at starwars.com. The new poster is scheduled to start appering in North American theatres on Friday, March 12th. To see it you can click here . 3/9/99: Producer Rick McCallum said that they are nine weeks from finishing the final effects shot. McCallum also said they have 315 shots to do in these nine weeks, and everything is on schedule. They have already completed almost 2000 shots for this film. 3/5/99: The new Episode 1 trailer will be released March 12th and play before the movie Wing Commander. |
