This is the movie they showed after Pikachu's Summer Vacation. It starts out showing a pic of mew in a bubble. There is a lab on an island. It is owned by Team Rocket. TR's Scientists are trying to make the most powerful pokemon by splicing DNA they found of mew in an old picture. After it is alive it wrecks the whole lab. A recording is made of the scientists last words. The new pokemon, Mewtwo, swears vengance on all human kind.
Then they show Ash, Misty, and Brock eating by the beach. before long a trainer challenges Ash. He has a Donfan (Appears in the Gold or silver version) among others. Ash beats him. After the battle, A Dragonite hands Ash an electronic invitation. It says that he is invited to battle the world's best pokemon trainer. Misty and Brock tell him to go for it. He checks off the yes box on a clipboard the Dargonite is carrying and then the Dragonite flies away.
Powerful waves are summoned by the sea. Officer Jenny says it is impossible to launch a ship to where the battle will be. She also says that Nurse joy has been missing since a few days ago. Only a few trainers think of going to the island with their pokemon. After Ash decides to go, Team Rocket is disguised as boat owners and they offer Ash, Misty, Brock and Pikachu a ride. After the waves are too much for the tiny boat, it collapses and the trainers send out their water pokemon to help them. They all make it safely to the island.
When they arrive there is a big door and they knock. After they are let in by the woman who was in the invitation, they sea three other pokemon trainers there. All of the trainers have their pokemon out of their pokeballs. Everyone is anxious to meet this mysterious Pokemon Trainer. When an elevator type thing moves everyone turns. The "trainer" is hidden in the shadows. After he speaks and reveals his face, the normal trainers are dumbfounded. One asks "How could a Pokemon be a Pokemon Trainer?". Then suddenly the woman's condition changes for the worse. After Ash catches her, they find out it is the missing Nurse Joy! All the trainers are angry and challenge them with Charizard(Ash), Blastoise(girl), and Venusaur(boy who asked question).
Mewtwo opens an arena and all the trainers pull out their pokemon. Then Mewtwo calls out his cloned pokemon. Can you guess which ones?(Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur!) All throughout the battle and their travels, a Mew has been watching them. The trainers pokemon get beat one by one. Then they get all of their pokemon ouot. Suddenly Lots of pokeballs start coming and catch all of the pokemon except Pikachu. Pikachu is running all over the place to avoid the balls catching him. After a not so successful run a pokeball catches him and Ash goes where they take Pikachu. It is a lab that clones pokemon. Team Rocket is monkeying around with the controls and they clone Meowth. Ash trys to save Pikachu from him being cloned but does not achieve his goal. Ash and all of the pokemon find their way out and make a cool entrance. After all the drama, Mew steps up and challenges Mewtwo. Mewtwo starts throwing energy bubbles at Mew and Mew respondes with bubbles of his own. After the war between Mew and Mewtwo starts evryone participates. To make it fair, Mewtwo takes evryone's powers and they fight manually. After a long time of fighting Ash decides to sacrifice himself to stop it all. Pikachu immediately rushes to him and all the Pokemon cry. Their tears help Ash come back to life. Mewtwo sees his act and decides to change. Then they say good-bye and Mewtwo flies away with Mew promising to unify Pokemon with all human kind alike!
