Chapter 27
Brenda's Cottage
"She's a delightful child. You raised her well." said Alexis.
"Yeah, but it would've helped if Ned and I were still married." said Lois sadly.
"It's not your fault that it didn't work out." said Alexis.
"Yes, it is. I didn't try to make our marriage work. I took away his child and left his life forever until I gave him visitation rights." said Lois.
"Hey, I know where you've been. You did the best thing you could do for your child and that was to get away from the Quartermaines. I know they can be crazy, but deep down inside they're good people." said Alexis.
"You're right. I'm glad Ned met you." said Lois.
"Thanks. I'm sure that someday you'll find another man just like Ned." said Alexis.
"I hope you're right." said Lois.
"Me too." said Alexis as she hugged Lois who through this intense conversation looked like she was going to cry.
Ned had overheard their conversation and was overwhelmed by his emotions for both women. One of them his first true love and the other his heart and soul. He loved them both, but in two different ways.
"I'm done." said Ned breaking the silence.
The two women were startled and they looked up at him. He smiled at them as Brooke ran downstairs.
"I colored a picture for you and Lexie." said Brooke smiling.
"What is it?" asked Ned.
"It's a unicorn and look I colored in the lines." said Brooke proudly.
"Very good." said Ned smiling.
He picked her up and hugged her.
"Can we go outside now?" asked Brooke.
"Sure." said Lois smiling.
They went outside to the backyard and Alexis gasped.
"It's beautiful." said Alexis.
"All the credit goes to Brenda." said Lois.
"This is such a lovely garden." said Alexis.
Ned put Brooke down and she started to run around.
"Ned, Lois said there was a house for sale next door to her. She said we should take a look at it." said Alexis.
"We can look at it tomorrow." said Ned.
"Okay." said Alexis.
Then Brooke came running over.
"Daddy, chase me!" said Brooke smiling.
"You got it, ragmuffin." said Ned smiling.
He started to chase her around the yard and she giggled.
Brownstone
"Just a minute!" yelled Bobbie.
She opened the door and saw Stefan smiling.
"And why are you so smug?" asked Bobbie smiling.
"Because I am free." said Stefan smiling.
"Come on in." she said.
He handed her a dozen roses and she grinned.
"What is this for?" she asked.
"For everything." he said.
"I see." she said smiling.
They sat down across from each other.
"I have something to tell you." he said.
"What is it?" she asked.
"I found out that my mother is Kristen." he said.
"That's impossible." she said.
"No, it's the truth. Let me explain." he said.
He started to tell her how Kristen was his mother.
Wyndmere
Emily walked into the family room where Nikolas and Kristen were talking.
"Hi!" said Emily.
"Hey!" said Nikolas.
"Nikolas, aren't you going to introduce me to this lovely young woman?" asked Kristen smiling.
"Grandmother, this Emily Quartermaine. She is Ned's cousin." said Nikolas.
"Nice to meet you, but I thought you were Alexis's mother." said Emily.
"I am, but I'm also Stefan's mother." said Kristen.
"Huh?" asked Emily confused.
"I think you better sit down." said Nikolas.
She sat down and Kristen explained the situation to her.
Brenda's Cottage
Lois, Ned, Alexis, and Brooke were playing tag. Alexis was 'It' and she was chasing Brooke. She was screaming and giggling, but Alexis caught her.
"You're 'It'." said Alexis smiling.
Alexis started to run away from Brooke, but Ned came up to Brooke and she tagged him.
"Daddy's 'It'!" laughed Brooke.
Ned started chasing Lois, but she got to the tree which was goal before he could tag her. Then he saw Alexis standing there trapped and he grinned.
"No fair, you can run faster than me." said Alexis smiling.
She started to run away from him, but suddenly stopped and Ned almost ran into her.
"Honey, what's wrong?" asked Ned.
"The baby..." Alexis trailed off.
"What's wrong with the baby?" asked Ned.
Lois and Brooke approached.
"Ned, she kicked." said Alexis smiling.
"She kicked?" asked Ned.
Alexis nodded her head and he put his hand on her stomach as he kissed her cheek. Lois smiled at the two, remembering what it was like to be pregnant with Brooke.
"What's wrong?" asked Brooke.
"Your little sister just kicked me." said Alexis smiling.
"Did it hurt?" asked Brooke.
"No, not at all." said Alexis smiling.
"Can I feel?" asked Brooke.
"Sure." said Alexis.
Alexis and Brooke went back to the porch and Alexis sat down with Brooke in her lap. Ned and Lois smiled at each other.
"She'll make a great mom." said Lois smiling.
"Yeah, she will." said Ned smiling.
"She really cares for Brooke like she was her own daughter and you know what?" said Lois.
"What?" asked Ned.
"I like that. All the friends that I've had with the exception of Brenda treated my daughter like she was a child that didn't have a brain or feelings, but with Alexis, she treats Brooke like a little adult which is the way I treat her." said Lois.
"I've noticed that. I guess it was because of her background." said Ned.
"Maybe, but she has a way with kids and soon I'm sure Brooke is gonna be calling her auntie Lexie." said Lois smiling.
Ned laughed as they approached Alexis and Brooke.
