Gosalyn Mallard

The coolest Disney Afternoon character ever!

The question you are probably asking yourself is why Gosalyn? If not, just skip this and go to my next paragraph for the real stuff. Okay. Since you’re still reading this, you don’t get why any sane, rational person would choose Gosalyn over Negaduck, Morgana, Megavolt, etc. Well, here are my reasons! One: Gosalyn kicks butt! She may be only nine, but she manages to help her dad on cases, have her own hero identity, and have a HUGE emotional impact on the people around her. Two: Gosalyn makes the show what it is. Without her, DW would just be an egotistical crimefighter. But Gosalyn is the glue that holds the characters together. DW is the soul, but Gosalyn is the heart of the show. Three:She’s funny! Gos inspires almost as many laughs as Darkwing or Launchpad. Four: Gos makes writing fan fics twice as fun! I love to put poor Gos in sticky situations! Five:You aren’t convinced yet? Just read the next section!

Who is this kid?

So who exactly is Gosalyn Mallard? Well, first and foremost, she is Darkwing’s nine year old adopted daughter. He adopted her after rescuing her from Taurus Bulba and his goons in Darkly Dawns the Duck (see Gos’s origin story below) Gosalyn is a spirited duckling (translation: She’s a mischievous kid with a good heart) who has a tendency to get into trouble by following DW on his cases and getting kidnapped and rescued. Here are some basic facts about Gos.

Daddy’s Little Girl: DW and Gos

Drake and Gosalyn’s relationship may seem rocky at times, but this is caused by their egos and tempers. In reality, they are very close and protective of each other. Gosalyn constantly worries about him getting hurt on a case and DW hasn’t had any peace of mind since meeting her. Darkwing mostly accepts Gos as a tomboy, except when he doesn’t, which has happened on a few notable occasions. (Fairy princess and pink dress comes to mind) When he’s not doing that, his parental pride is almost as big as his ego! (heh heh) So what exactly is DW’s stance on Quiverwing Quack, Gosalyn’s hero identity? Well, I think that he’ll accept it......when she’s around thirty. Quiverwing was created when Gosalyn discovered a hidden talent with arrows and wanted her dad to appreciate her for her talents. She’s currently retired, which is NOT FAIR! I want more Quiverwing! Sigh...... Well, I think I’ll write a fan fic on it.

Gosalyn’s Past

What little is known is that Gos lost both parents at an unspecified age (I always pictured her being three, since she rarely mentions them) and went to live with her parental grandfather, the inventor Professor Waddlemeyer. Gos and her grandfather were really close, and she was practically raised in his lab. Professor Waddlemeyer was killed in an ‘accident’ caused by Taurus Bulba, a criminal who wanted to steal his invention, the Waddlemeyer Ram Rod, and Gosalyn was sent to the St. Canard orphanage, probably around the age of seven or eight. Bulba had gotten Waddlemeyer out of the way, but unfortunately had forgotten to obtain the arming code to the Ram Rod, which he assumed Gosalyn knew. Gos was rescued from Bulba’s goons by everybody’s favorite masked mallard, Darkwing Duck, and he eventually came to adopt her. But that story is told in ‘Darkly Dawns the Duck’ and far be it from me to spoil the plot.

Gosalyn’s best friend is Honker Muddlefoot, the local brainiac who helps Darkwing on his cases, but suffers from an acute shyness. Gosalyn draws him out by being the person who sees behind the glasses. Honker will do just about anything for Gos, even if he voices a meek protest first. His older brother, Tank, terrorizes Honker specifically and the whole neighborhood in general- all except Gosalyn, who could smack him around, but refrains from doing so for Honker’s sake.

That’s pretty much all I have to say for now. More to come!

The way out.......sure it’s safe?
