Gadge and Trivette tried to comperhened what had just happened. It was Walker's wedding day. The best day of his
life. Finally he and Alex were going to get married. Start a life together. Then, just as Walker was about to say 'I do',
someone, some unseen person at the wedding had shot him. Could it be someone obessed with Alex? Maybe they
were obessed with Walker. Or maybe it was someone who had been holding a grudage on one of them for a while. H
Heck, who knew, it may not have any connection to either on of them. Maybe just one of those sick people who mad
a life out of ruining other's lifes.
They scanned the shocked crowd.
The preacher bowed his head and started to pray. Trivette and Gadge couldn't find anyone or anything that didn't
belong.
Tears came to Alex's eyes as she cradled Walker's head. She heard the ambulance coming.
The paramedics rushed over to Walker.
"He's not breathing!"
One gently pulled Alex away.
Walker's once white shirt was now blood red.
Alex watched helpless as the performed CPR on her newly wed husband. She still held his ring in her hand.
"Oh Walker. Why? Why now? Just as we were starting our new life together. Why did this have to happen?"
She watched as one parmedic shook his head. The other's loaded Walker onto a gurney.
"Ma'm, we're taking him to Medthodist, if you would like to come." A paramedic approched her.
"Yes. I would."
Trivette, Gadge and Sydney promised to meet her there.
The three watched as the ambulance rushed off with their friend inside, fighting for his life.
"Think that call Walker said someone made to the travel agent had anything to do with this?" Trivette asked.
"I don't know, but we're gonna find out." Gadge answered, as his jaw tightened.
"Wait a minute... What call?" Sydney asked.
"On his way down here, Walker's travel agent called for Alex. Well, Walker answered. Someone had called and
reported Walker's death. They cancelled the honeymoon plans."
"How sick. And Walker didn't think nothing of this?"
"No. Nothing eles had happened, so he brushed it off as a sick joke."
"Well, looks like someone meant it as more then a joke."
***************************
Alex sat crying in a corner when Trivette, Gadge and Sydney came in.
"Alex?" Trivette sat next to her and put a comforting arm around his close friend.
"How did this happen? This was suppose to be the happiness day of my life!"
"Walker didn't even get to say I do." she sobbed, leaning her head on Trivette's shoulder.
Trivette kept silent, but gave a worried look toward his two friends.
"Ms. Walker?"
It took a minute for Alex to reliaze it was her being called.
"Yes?" She saw the symothy in the doctors eyes when he saw her huddled in a chair, crying in the corner, still in her
wedding dress.
"I just wanted to let you know that Mr. Walker will be in surgery for about ten hours."
"Ten hours?" Alex asked in disbelife.
"What's wrong?" Trivette asked.
"The bullet hit next to his heart. He has a collapsed lung, multipule internal injuries, and internal bleeding. A pieace
of the buller is wedged in his heard, causing the blood to run into the lung. We will have to stop the heart, in order to
atttempt to get the bullet out with out futher damage." the doctor explained.
"Will he be alright?" she asked.
"I can't make no promises. It doesn't look good, though. I can tell you that."
"Please, Doctor...Do all you can for him." Alex pleaded.
"I will. He's in the best of hands, Ms. Walker."
"Alex, I'll go and bring you a change of clothes back." Trivette offered.
"Thank you."
"Sydney and I are heading over to headquaters and see what we can come up with."
"Ok Gadge. I'll meet you over there as soon as I drop Alex's things off."
Sydney and Gadge entered headquaters.
"Gadge, Walker has a box on his desk. Should we open it?" Sydney asked.
Gadge went over to check it out.
"No name, no address, nothing. Just a plain white box. Someone had to have sat it here."
"Who?" Sydney asked.
"Good question. Everyone in the office knew Walker wasn't coming back for two weeks."
"Yeah, so why leave you gift on his desk." Sydney added.
"They wouldn't."
Gadge carefully lefted the lid off the box. Tweleve black roses layed in the box, a note sat on top.
"So Sorry Alex will never be yours."
Gadge and Sydney exchanged looks.
"Hey guys! I dropped Alex's clothes off. I promised to check back with her later. Found anything?"
"No, but look at this." Gadge said.
Trivette went over to Walker's desk and look in the box.
"ALEX!"
Trivette ran back out of the door and to his car. He had to get her in time. He couldn't let anything happen to her.
********************
"I am going down and get some coffee." Alex told a nurse.
"Ok, Ms. Walker."
Alex smiled warmly and got in the elevator.
Trivette came rushing though the hospital. He should have never left her alone. He franiclaty pushed the button
until the elevator door opened. Once he reached the seconde level, he rushed into the waiting room, searching for
Alex. He found her wedding dress, neatly folded in a bag, sitting on the chair. But no Alex.
"Nurse. Have you seen Ms. Cahill.. Or I mean Mrs. Walker."
"Yes sir. Mrs. Walker went down to get coffee, about a hour ago."
"She didn't come back?"
"No sir."
Trivette took the staris two at a time until he got to the cafiteria. No Alex there either. The cashier hadn't seen her
seen, nor had the desk attendant. She didn't answer the page.
"Oh God." Trivette sank down in a chair. Talking a deep breath, Trivette went back to the waiting room and called
Gadge.
"Ranger Gadge."
"Gadge, Alex is gone. She was last seen a hour ago heading to get coffee."
"I'll be right there. There's no leads here at all."
"Alright."
"Sir, where is Mrs. Walker?" the doctor asked Trivette as he hanged up the phone.
"We don't know right now, Doctore. We fear she has been kidnapped. Why? Is something wrong with Walker?"
"I just came to say that Walker is out of surgery, but it'll be another five hours before you can see him."
"Will he make it doctor?" Trivette asked.
"I can't give any promises yet. Walker is in grave condition with assistanted breathing."
"Alright. Thank you, Doctor"
It was now going on elevan at night when Gadge, worn out from the day's envents came inot the room. Trivette had
fallen asleep in a chair.
"Trivette?" The ranger jumped at his name
"Hey Gadge. Sorry, kinda wore out."
"Yeah, I know. Sydney is going home to get a few hourse rest, then she'll go back to headquaters and look for any
leads."
"Why don't you do the same, Gadge. I am staying here tonight. Walker's out of surgery, but he's in grace condition.
It's going to be another five hours before we can see him."
"Alright, I'll meet you here...Say around sevean."
"Sounds good."
Trivette watched Gadge leave, then he was left alone again, in the empty waiting room.
Trivette was awoke though the night by a gental hand shaking him.
"Uh? What?"
He awoke to see the doctor standing over him.
"Doctor, what's the matter?"
"You may see Ranger Walker now."
"Oh. Thanks, Doctor. How is he?"
"He's showing some sign of approvement."
Trivette followed the doctor back to Walker's room in ICQ.
Walker layed deathly still. All color was drained from his face. A tube ran down his thoart, helping to force air into
his lungs. The heard montir kept a slow, but steady beat. He knew his partner was in danger. "Hey, Partner!"
Trivette said.
Walker seemed aleart.
Trivette was in the room.
Alex wasn't.
Where was she.
Where was his Alex.
Oh God no.
She didn't get shot too, did she?
No, please not his Alex.
Walker's heart rate picked up and his breaths became labored.
Trivette knew Walker sensed Alex wsn't there with him.
The doctore cam in.
"Sir, please leave for a while. The Ranger seems upset, and that could worsen his condition.
"Yes, Doctor."
"Don't worry about Alex, Walker." Was all Trivett said.
He didn't want to give false hope or make promises.
The nurse came in as Trivette was leaving to give Walker medicane.
"This will help you rest."
Trivette headed back to the waiting room as the nurse put the drug in Walker's IV.
Gadge was in the waiting room when Trivette got there.
"Hey, your a little early." Trivette greeted.
"Yeah, I wanted to check on Walker before we got started, how is he?"
All of a sudden there was a rush of nurses toward the ICQ.
"What happened?" Trivette asked as Gadge and him rushed toward Walker's room.
They could hear the flat line beep.
A crash cart was wheeled into the room.
Trivette and Gadge stood outside and watched though the window.
A nurse was at Walker's bedside doing CPR.
"Nothing." she called as the doctor set up the paddles.
"Charging."
"Clear"
The doctor placed the paddles on Walker's chest. The ranger's body arched and rose from the table as the volt
travled though his body.
"Nothing"
"Charging."
The nurse went back to CPR while the paddles recharged.
"Clear"
Walker's body rose again.
"Nothing"
Some of the docters shook their head.
They had lost him.
"NO!" Trivette cried.
"He's too far gone, doctor."
One of the nurses said.
They all looked at the doctor in charge.
What would be next?
Notify the family?
The doctor looked at the patient.
He knew from expericance that there was no hope.
But the images of the ranger's newly wed wife, sitting in the waitng room, still in her wedding dress, craying for her
beloved husband stayed in his head. He remembered hearing the groom never got to say 'I do.'
"Let's do it again." He finally spoke.
"Charging."
"Clear."
Once again Walker's body rose.
Once again followed by a flat line.
All heads sadly shook and looked at the doctor.
"God please not this one. Don't take this one. He has so much to live for, so much of your work to do. Please God
let me pull him though." the doctor silently prayed, then looked out the window, where the ranger's partner stood
with tears in his eyes.
"One more time."
The nurse started CPR again while the paddles re-charged.
"Clear."
Walker's body once more rose.
This time though, it was followed by a slow, steady beat.
"We got him."
Smiles mixed with tears of joy and relief flooded though the room.
"What happened?" Trivette demanded when the doctor headed out of the room.
"Walker took some kind of reaction to the medicane the nurse gave him.
"Good work, doctor. Thank you for pulling him though." Trivette said.
"It wasn't me. Thank the Good Lord."
Trivette did just that as Gadge and him headed back to the waiting room.
"Think we should check out the nurse?" Gadge asked.
"We could."
Trivette approched the nurses station, followed by Gadge.
The same nurse who was doing CPR on Walker sat in a chair, wipping tears from her eyes.
"You did a great job." Gadge softly patted her back.
"If it weren't for you, my buddy would be dead."
"It's all my fault this happened."
"How so?" Gadge asked.
"I put the wrong medican in the IV. I didn't know it caused a deadly reaction if mixed with other drugs."
"This was only my first day. I was only trying to help. Guess I should have asked."
"Don't worry, hon. It's alright. You saved his left." Gadge smiled at her and then followed Trivette back to the
waiting room.
"Guess that was a dead end." Trivette said.
"Yeah, really. Poor girl is really upset over this." Gadge said.
Trivette's cell phone rang.
"Trivette."
"Hey, Sydney. What's up?"
"Ok. We'll check it out. Hey, Sydney, can you put a trace on Alex's cell phone? She may have it on."
"Thanks."
He put the cell phone away and looked at Gadge.
"We've got a lead. Brad Evans, Alex's ex. He was very controlling and abusive. He just got out of prision a few
weeks ago for murder and rape. He has a ranch right here in Dallas."
"Let's go. Got a address?" Gadge asked.
"You bet."
Trivette and Gadge pulled into the dusty drive.
"This is gonna kill my new mustang." Trivette remarked.
"Yeah, you really hsould use a truck like Walker's." Gadge suggested.
"Never! I don't look good in a truck. Besides, woman are attacted to fancy sports cars, not beat up trucks."
"Really?"
"Sure!"
Gadge just smiled and shook his head.
He didn't want to bring up the fact that Alex really loved the RAM.
After being in court or the office all day, she loved to kick back and go riding down a dusty back road with Walker.
But of course, she'd never admitt it to Walker.
"What a dump." Trivette commented.
Grass was grown knee high. No glass in windows. Porch was falling though. Front door was falling off. Roof had a
big hole, and the place was toatle empty, except the dust coveing the floors.
"We'll he hasn't been here for years, we know that much." Gadge said.
"Really."
The phone rang again.
"Trivette."
"Yeah. He hasn't been here, Sydney."
"Really?"
"Good job. We're on our way."
"No, just stay there. We may need more information."
Trivette turned to Gadge.
"We got a trace. Alex's phone was traced to I-35 South, going though San Antonio. We think they're heading to
Mexico."
"Let's go."
************************
Alex layed bound and gaged in back of the white van. She knew her phone was on, so Trivette could still trace her,
she just prayed it didn't ring.
As if reading her thoughts, the phone rang.
"What's that!"
"You got a phone? Stupid bitch, don't you know phones can be traced!"
The van swang to the side of the road.
Brad grabbed the phone after empting her purse. He then fliped it out the window.
Turning to Alex, he brought his right hand across her cheeck, leaving a red mark, which would soon turn to black
and blue.
"Don't try nothing eles." he warned, then climbed back to the driver's seat and took off.
****************************
As they went over the speed limit down I-35, Trivette grined over at Gadge.
"See, sports cars are made for speed. Trucks aren't."
"I don't know man. I've seen Walker's truck fly."
Trivette was ready to repond to that comment when the phone rang.
Gadge picked it up.
"Gadge."
"Hey, Sydney."
"We just passed San Antonio."
"Mile Marker 420, Lardo. Got it."
"Thanks, we'll keep you informed."
Putting the phone back down, Gadge turned to Trivette.
"Alex's phone was traced to mile marker 420 in Lardo on I-35."
****************************
Walker slowly began to wake up.
"Alex?"
He remembered feeling Trivette's presents there, but not Alex.
Where was she?
"Alex?" Walker rose his voice as loud as he could, which was just barley over a whishper.
Pain filled his chest as he tried to sit up. He had to find Alex.
"Alex!"
A nurse came in.
"Welcome back, Ranger Walker." she smiled.
"Alex..."Walker called again.
"Let me get you something to make you rest."
"No. Tell me where Alex is." he demanded.
"Go on and tell him." the doctor said.
"Ranger, your wife is missing. Your partner left early this morning to find her."
"How long have I been here?"
"Three days."
"I've got to get out of here."
"Oh no you don't."
"Doctor, let me go to my ranch." Walker pleaded.
The doctor knew if he didn't let Walker have his way, he would just escape, and possiable cause me injury to himself
"I'll make you a deal."
"You let the nurse give you medican, and you rest."
The doctor paused. He could tell Walker didn't like the sound of that.
"Then." he continued."If by tomorrow morning, everything goes alright. You don't have any more trouble tonight
and your vital signs are normal I'll release you."
"Thank you, doctor."
"But, under one condition."
"What's that..."
"You have to have someone pick you up. There will be no driving, no excersing, no martial arts. Nothing. You go
home and you rest."
"I can do that." Walker said.
***************************
Trivette pulled off the rad as they came up to mile marker 420.
Gadge jumped out of the car and headed to a small object on the shoulder of the road, hidden slightly by grass.
"Look." Gadge showed Trivette the phone.
"Dame, dead end."
"Looks like they went to Mexico."
"Yeah. They did."
Both rangers got back in and continued on to Mexico.
"I'd better call the hospital and check on Walker." Trivette said, before pulling back into traffic.
"Yeah. It'd be a good idea. He'll wake up and find everyone gone, and then he won't know what to think."
*******************************
The white van pulled up up to an old abandoned farm house. Brad had brought it from a friend of his just for this
purpose, and he mad sure it was very nicely furnished.
Once he made Alex love him again, they could live happily alone with out any mosey people like last itme. What
he did with his women was his busness. Brad roughly grabbed Alex up by the neck of his shirt and dragged her up
the steps and into the house. She tried to stand, but his force kept pulling her off of her feet. He dragged her
though the house and out the back door, where the swimming pool was.
"See Alex. If you would only love me like you used to, we could be so happy here together. Just you and me."
"NEVER!" Alex yelled.
"Aw, Sure ya will, sweetie."
Brent grinned and cupped her brest in his hand.
"Get of of me you no good son of a ..." She cut off her last word as she brought her knee up, hitting him in the
groin area full force.
Brent doubled over, then came back with a right back hand across her head that knocked her out.
"Teach you to mess with your old man."
He dragged her up the stairs and tied her spread eagle on the bed, he could have his fun later.
Going back down stairs, he grabbed a beer and went out by the pool.
************************
"Ranger Walker?" The nurse peeked in the door.
"Yes?"
"I have a call from a Ranger Trivette. I wanted to check and make sure you were awake and want me to send it
though.
"Yes. Put him though." Walker answered.
"Ok, Ranger."
"Trivette?" Walker answered on the first ring.
"Hey there Partner. I hear you're doing better."
"I am fine."
"Where's Alex?"
Trivette paused.
"Tell me now, Trivette."
" Walker, I am sorry man. We think she's been kidnapped."
"By who? What for?"
"We think it's Brad Evans, Alex's ex husband."
"That no good son of ..." Walker caught him self.
His jaw tightened as anger filled him.
"Any leads?"
"Well, we had Alex's phone traced. It came up in Lardo at Mile Marker 420. We think he took her to Mexico."
"Walker. Promise me you won't do anything. Sydney's at the office looking for more leads, Gadge and I are going
to Mexico. Just get your self well for Alex when we bring her home." Trivette said.
"Yeah. Sure." Was all Walker said then hanged up.
He couldn't let anyone know what he was planning.
