It was early morning. Walker was already dressed and waiting for the doctor. One way or the other he was leaving there today. He couldn't let anyone know his plans though.
"Well, good morning, Ranger. I see you're ready to go."
"Yeah, I am. I know my horses till be missing me."
"Well, everything seems normal, just rest. We can't affored to have you tearing any of those stiches."
No we can't. I have to be my best for Alex."
"I can see marriage has already changed you, for the better."
"Remember our deal, Ranger. Someone needs to pick you up."
"Done. I already called Ranger Crook. She's on her way."
"Very, well then."
****************
"Now what?" Gage asked.
"We go to Mexico."
"How will we know where to begin?"
"We ask."
"And if they want a describion?"
"We don't give them one."
"Works for me." Gage smiled as they crossed the border into Mexico.
********************
"Walker was silent all the way home.
Sydney figured he was still groggy, so she said nothing. She had no idea what thoughts were going though his head.
"Well, here we are." She smiled, pulling up in front of the steps.
"Need help getting in?"
"No, I am fine, thank you."
"Sure you don't need anything?"
"Yeah, I am sure."
"Alright. I'll be at headquaters if you do, and I'll check in on you before going home."
"Okay."
"Oh, and Walker..."
"Yes?"
"Don't try anything. Rest like the doctor told you. If anything happens to you, Alex will kill me."
"Ok, Sydney."
Sydney watched until he entered the house, and closed the door behind him. She then headed back to headquaters.
She knew she had better call Trivette, and let him know that Walker was saftly home.
*************************
Gage and Trivette pulled into Casa de` Rosa, a small cafe`.
"Let me do the talking." Trivette told Gage.
"Ok. Whatever." he answered.
Trivette went into the diner. It looked more like a bar. Smell of liqure filled the room, and a bunch of Mexicans stood around the bar.
"I need information on Brad Evans!" Trivette called out.
"No Ingles!" The bunch called out and laughed.
"Amigo Brad Evans!" Trivette tried again.
This was getting no where.
Gage stepped up and spoke in spanish.
The men were quite for a minute, surpized by the very well spoken spanish.
"Senor Brad Evans vivas en el rancho. En Desserat!"
"Graceios."
Gadge walked out of the diner, followed by Trivette.
"How did you do that?" Trivette asked.
"Do what?"
"Talk to them."
"I live in Texas. Spanish is a basic nessary there."
"I live in Texas too."
"But your from Baltimore." Gage said.
" So, I live in Texas now." Trivette pointed out.
"Not long enough I guess." Gage smiled.
They were getting back in the car when the phone rang.
"Trivette."
"Hey, Sydney."
"You What!"
"He'll leave. He'll come hunting her down."
" I know. He has done it before, Sydney."
"No, it's not your fault."
"Alright. Call me as soon as you get there."
Trivette hanged up.
"What was that about?" Gage asked.
"Walker was released from the hospital. Sydney dropped him off at the ranch."
"And you think he's out looking for Alex?"
"No. I know he is."
**********************
Walker had a few changes of clothes packed in a duffle bag. The bag layed on the seat of the RAM. He picked up the phone and punched in a number.
"Hey, Lopez. I need information."
"Brand Evans. He's Alex's ex husband. He kidnapped her on our wedding day. I believe he's holding her in Mexico."
"Thanks, Amigo.
Walker hanged up the phone and then went in the barn to say good-bye to his horses.
He was going to find Alex, one way or the other. He knew he could find her faster then Trivette could. He had more connections.
*************************
Sydney was on her way back to the ranch. She hoped she wasn't too late, or that Trivette was wrong.
She should have known better then to trust a subberon Ranger like Walker. She had heard about him. He never followed rules.
She pulled into the drive, and saw the RAM gone.
"Oh great." she muttered, parking in front of the house.
"Walker?" She called.
She checked the front door.. It was locked. No not. Nothing.
She went over the the barn. The horse's stalls were opened, giving them a chocie of going out to the pasture or into the stalls.
They had extra food and hay stacked up. Walker had left and intended to stay gone for several days.
************************
"Now what?" Gage asked.
"All we know is that Evans has a house somewhere in the desseart. That's a mighty big place to look for a house."
"Not if you have a chopper."
"And how are we going to do that?"
"Mexican Police. Walker and I have been down here a few times and helped out on undercover missions. They'll lend us one."
"Let's go, then."
Just as they were getting in the car, Trivette's phone rang once again.
"Trivette."
"Hey, Sydney."
"I figured that was his plan."
"I told him we thought she was in Mexico. I bet he's on his way down here."
"No, that's ok. We'll find him."
"Don't worry, Sydney. Wasn't your fault. Walker is like this."
"Alright. Will do."
"Take Care."
Trivette hanged up the phone.
Gage looked at him. "Walker's gone?"
"Yeah. Sydney said it looked like he plans on being gone serval days."
"So we are looking for two people now." Gage commented.
"Yeah."
********************
The sun was just coming up as Walker crossed the border. He had driven straight though all night. He had to find Alex. Nothing eles mattered.
Walker pulled off at a small town gas station.
"Fill her up." Walker said, heading to the phone.
He walked slightly bent over. He was in pain. He had driven hard, with no sleep, and it was taking it's toll.. There was nothing he could do about
it though, not until he found Alex. He knew about Evan. He was a monster. There was no telling what he'd do with Alex.
Walker punched in a number on the phone.
"Lopez, hey. Found anything?"
"Great. Got a loctation?"
"Thanks Amigo."
"I will."
Walker hanged up the phone. He got the information he needed.
After paying the attendant, Walker climbed in the truck, and took off toward the dessart. He floored it as the RAM bounched across the dusty
desserat roads. He couldn't waste anytime. He knew exactly where it was. He'd been in that area before. Right next to Cabeza De Oro, Spanish for
"Head Of Gold". He'd just hoped her wasn't too late. At his best guest, it had been at least four days Since she was kidnapped.
"Hold on Alex. Hold on. I am coming."
****************************
Trivette and Gage were at the Mexican Police station at day break. A chopper and piolt were already waiting for them at the helipad.
"Where to, Ranger?" the pilot asked.
"We're looking for a ranch house in the desert." Gage said.
"Is that all we have to go on?"
"Afraid so."
"Alright, let's give it a try."
Trivette and Gage climbed in the chopper as it took off, and headed west across the desert.
"This is going to be like finding a needle in a haystack." Gage said.
"Well, maybe not."
"What do you mean?"
"How many farm houses will be in a desert." Trivette replied.
"True. Good point."
*************************
Walker saw a two story white house in the distance. 'Cabeza De Ore' was a few miles behind it. That had to be the house. Alex had to be there.
Walker stepped on the gas more, and pushed the truck farther. He didn't want to waist any time. God only knew what that monster was doing to
his Alex. He would never forgive himself if something happened to her.
Walker was only a few yards from the house now. He stopped the truck, leaving the keys in it. Alex may need to make a fast get a way. Walker
drawed his gun, and made sure he had his handcuffs in the back pocket. He wasn't qute sure what to excpect. He knew he was weak. He
wouldn't be able to hold up a fight for long. His first objective had to be to get Alex out saftly, then he would deal with Evans.
Slowly the ranger made his way up the steps and to the front door, which stood opened. He took each step carefully, not to make a noise. He
saw Evans sitting at the pool, looking in the other direction. Walker turned to leave, and get a better look when something gold and shiney
caught his eye. He bent over and picked up the golden object. It was his wedding ring. He knew Alex was here for sure now. Nothing was
going to stop him from finding her. He sliped the ring in his pocket, and slowly eased though the front door. He wanted to find Alex and get
her out before Evans knew he was there. He knew he had pulled his internal stiches, and was bleeding again. Only if he could hold on long
enough to get Alex to saftly. That's all that mattered.
Walker was now in the living room of the ranch. He looked around. There were a lot of rooms and hallways. 'Where could she be?' he woundered
Walker spoted a few drops of blood leading up the stairs. Alex! his mind screamed. He knew she was hurt, but didn't know how bad.
Quickly, but silently Walker made his way up the stairs. He scanned the hall, that had about five rooms leading off of it. One door was opened
Silently. He could hear soft cries comeing form the room.
********************
Alex laid on the bed. She was bounded and gaged. Where was Walker? Was he ok? Did he make it? Was he missing her now? Would she be
saved this time? What did Evans want with her? How long has she been her? Tears flowed from her eyes as all these questions ran though her
mind. All of them unanswered. 'Oh, Walker. Where are you?' she thought.
The door opened slowly. Fear ran though Alex's spind. Was that Evans?
"Alex! Oh my God!"
Walker sliped his gun back in the holster and ran to her. She was black and blue with cuts and brusise over her face.
"Oh, Alex, honey. I am sorry." Anger boilered inside Walker. Alex could see that anger in his eyes. What kind of a low life scub could do this to
a person. To his Alex. His wife.
Walker took the gage out her mouth.
"Walker! Oh Walker. I was so worried. I didn't know." Alex cried.
"Shh.. It's alright."
Walker untied her hands and feet, and pulled her close to him, holding her tightly as she cried.
"I am here, Alex. Everything will be fine."
He kissed the top of her head, and pulled out the ring her found.
"I think you lost something." he said, handing it to her.
Alex smiled as she took his hand.
"I do." He whispered, as she sliped the ring on his figure.
"I do take Alex Cahill, to be my lawful wedded wife, in sickness and in health, til death do us part, forsaken all others."
Walker pulled her into a tender kiss.
"Listen. Evans in by the pool. The truck is only a few yards away. Give me a few minutes. Then run for the Ram. The keys are in it. Go get help."
"But, Walker. What about you?"
"I'll be fine."
"Why do you want me to leave?"
Walker didn't want to tell her the reason. He didn't want to tell her he wouldn't make it though the fight with Evans. That he was too weak to hold
his own. He wanted her to think everything was fine.
"I think it's best if you weren't here, Alex. Please. Just listen to me."
"Alright Walker. I'll go." She agreed.
"Thank you."
Alex watched her husband leave the room. She knew something was wrong. Something wasn't right. But she didn't know what.
She creeped down the stairs, soon after Walker.
Walker, who had his mind forced on Evans, had noticed Alex stopping at the steps.
"EVANS!"
Walker stood in the door way between the living room and pool.
"WALKER! How in the h****!"
Evans jumped from the chair and charged Walker, hitting him in the stomache. Walker went flying backwards and crashed into a table.
Alex took this seconde to scan the living room, searching for a weapon, just in case.
She found a shot gun, loaded with two bullets.
Alex picked it up, and was prepared to use it.
Evans was already on top of Walker, getting ready to wrap his hands around the ranger's neck.
Walker brought up a knee, hitting Evans in the groin. Evans went strangling back, then grabbed a chair, throwing it at Walker.
Walker moved to the side, but wasn't fast enough. The chair caught him in the stomache.
Walker doubled over. Evans took this mintue to charge Walker.
He grabbed Walker's legs, throwing the Ranger off his feet.
Seeing Walker was in trouble, Alex steped out, shotgun aimed on Evans.
"FREEZE!" Alex yelled, just as she saw Walker fall backward, hitting his head on the side of the pool, and falling in.
"You don't have the gut!" Evans yelled, charging Alex.
Alex pulled the trigger, and Evans fell silent just inside the doorway.
Alex was shaking as she laid the gun down. She had never killed anyone before.
She didn't have a choice in this matter. Walker's life was on the line.
*****************
"See anything?" Gage asked.
"No...WAIT! Over there!" Trivette pointed.
"That's Walker's truck!"
"Take it down!" Trivette commanded.
"Trivette! Look!" Gage pointed toward the pool.
Trivette saw Alex diving into the pool.
"Oh God. Not Walker."
Trivette jumped from the chopper just as it landed and ran at full speed to the house, followed by Gage.
The two Rangers ran though the house, and went around the body. Trivette couldn't be worried about a dead body right now. His partner needed him. They got to the pool just as Alex struggled to the top, holding Walker.
Trivette could see the blue in Walker's face.
"Oh God, no." He drove in the pool, and helped Alex get him to the edge of the pool, and Trivette helped pull him out.
"No pulse!" Trivette called
"Oh no you don't!" Alex yelled.
She quickly began CPR.
Trivette called for a Med-Vac.
"Dame you Walker, BREATH!" Alex yelled, as she once again did compressions.
"Alex...He's gone." Gage said.
"NO!!"
Alex went back to breathing for him.
"Please God, no. Don't take him now. Please." Alex cried.
She was wore out. She knew Walker had slim to none chance of pulling though now.
Alex's fear turned to anger. How dare him die on her. He couldn't. She wouldn't allow him.
Alex slaped Walker across the face with all of her strap.
"Now BREATH!" she cried.
Walker's body shoke a moment. Then nothing.
Then he coughed and water came out of his mouth.
Alex quickly rolled him over on his side to prevent him from swallowing the water again.
"Thank You Lord!" She prayed as she watched Walker start stedy breathing again.
******************
NEXT DAY
Alex walked into Walker's hospital room. He had broken ribs, collaped lung, and internal bleeding.
"Hello, Cowboy. How ya feeling?" Alex asked, walking up to his bed.
"Better now that I have my wife!" he smiled
Alex sat down on the edge of the bed.
"I love you so much, honey."
Walker pulled her down to his lips for a tender kiss.
"I love you too." She whispherd.
"So, when do we start?" She asked.
"Start what?"
"A FAMILY!"
"When ever you are ready!"
THE END
