Walker sat at CD's, sipping coffee. It was lonesome there without Alex, but she
had court, and wasn't able to meet him for lunch. He was hoping that they both
would have time to go to dinner tonight. He hadn't seen Alex around much in the
last few weeks. They both had full schudels. If he had a break, Alex didn't. He had
already canceled two dinner dates and a lunch date because of his schudel. He
hated to do this to Alex, but there was no other way.
Walker looked over at a young boy, dropping his quater in the jukebox. They boy
seemed sad, like something was troubleing him. Then, he turned and with the
saddest eyes, he looked at the few custermers in the restaunt.
"I want to play this song for my little sister. She was 5."
Walker looked over to the table the boy came from, but only saw two adults.
"She was killed a year ago in a shooting, and today would have been her birthday.
This was her favorite song." The boy had a tears in his eyes as he walked back to
his parents.
Walker's heart filled with sadness for this boy and his family.
Sometimes late at night,
I lie awake and watch her sleeping
She's lost some peaceful dreams,
So I turn out the light,
And lay there in the dark
And the thought crosses my mind,
If I never wake in the morning
Would she ever doubt
The way I feel about her in my heart
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I love her
Did I try in everyway
To show her everyday
That she's my only one
And if my time on earth were though
And she must face this world without me
Is the lover I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes
Thoughts of Alex passed though Walker's mind as he listened to the words. What if
this was his last day on earth. What if he was gunned down. Would Alex know
how much he loved her? Had he showed her in everyway how much she meant to
him. He knew the answer to that. No. He never stopped and made time for her.
Work always got in the way. He never once told her that he loved her, though his
heart was filled with love only for her. He never brought her flowers or did any
thing 'special' for her to show his love. Heck, he didn't even get her flowers for her
birthday or valentines day. A little gift, dinner and dancing. That was it.
Cause I've lost love once in my life
Who never knew how much I loved them
Now I live with the regreat
That my true feelings for them never were reveled
So I made a promise to myself
To say each day
How much she means to me
And aviode that circumstance
Where there's no second chance
To tell her how I feel
Cause if tomorrow never comes
Would she know how much I love her
Did I try in everyway
To show her everyday
That she's my only one
And if my time on earth were though
And she must face this world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes
So tell that someone that you love
Just what your thinking of
If tomorrow never comes
Ellen passed though Walker's mind. He was the same way with her. He never
truely let his feelings show. Of course, he thought she knew how much he loved
her, but maybe she didn't. Of course she knew he loved her, but did she know how
much? Didn't matter now. It's too late. He had slowly moved on with his life. Now
his heart belonged to Alex, and only Alex. He relizied he was making the same
mistake.
Last year when she was shot, what if she had died? She would have never known
how much he loved her. She would have never been his finacee. And now, now
that they were engaged, he still didn't let his feelings so. All the times Alex had been
kidnapped, when her life was in danger. That time when Caleb Hooks locked her
in a water tank and he almost lost her. He didn't grab her up in his arms and tell her
how much he loved her. That he would die if he ever lost her.
What if something happened to him. Would Alex know just how special she was to
him? Would she know that he loves her more then he ever loved anyone.
Scences of his life quickly passed though his mind. His parents, Ellen, Uncle Ray,
Lucas....they all meant so much to him, but he never told them, never showed him
how much he loved them. He has lost love more then once in his life that never
knew how much he loved them, and now, there's no second chance. He can't go
back and tell them. He could only hope that they knew.
"Did you hear that Cordell. That's so sad." CD said, coming over to his friend.
"Huh?"
"That song that little boy played for his sister."
"Oh, yeah, CD."
Walker stood up.
"Thanks CD. I've got to get going."
"But, Cordell, you only got here a few minutes ago."
"I know. But Alex get's out of court at two today, and I just want to do a little
something for her."
"Okay, see ya later, Cordell."
Walker glanced at this watch, and headed out the door. It was noon. He had two
hours to get everything planned. He had better hurry.
Alex steped out of the court room. It had been a long hard day, but she had won.
Now, all she was looking forward to was going home, and takeing a nice long hot
bubble bath. She glanced down the steps, and saw the RAM parked right in front
of the steps, and a certing Ranger wearing a three pieace suite, holding the
passenger door opened for her, and a dozen roses.
"What in the world is he up to now?" She asked herself with a smile.
"Hi, I see you washed your truck." She greeted him with a smile.
"Yeah, it was kinda dirty." He agreed, hugging her.
"Who are these for?" she asked, looking at the flowers.
"Oh, um, here, I got these for you." he smiled.
"Oh, my, I don't get these everyday, what's up."
"Nothing. I just want to show you how much I love you."
Alex couldn't believe what she was hearing. She spends one day in court, and
comes out to a total different Cordell Walker. Something was up. Alex glanced in
the truck and saw two small boxes, wrapped in flowered paper, and a card resting
on top.
"Gee, someone's birthday?" Alex asked.
"Huh?" Walker saw her eyes looking toward the truck.
"Oh, no, those were for you, once you got in." Walker laughed a nervous laughed.
"My car is stilll here. Where are we going?" She asked.
"Don't worry about the car, it will be fine."
Alex slowly climbed into the RAM. Walker closed the door, and ran around to the
driver's side.
"So, where are we going?" She asked.
"Well, it's for me to know, and you to find out. Here, open you card first."
Alex took the white unmarked envelope from Walker. He watched as she slowly
opened it, and pulled out a card. The picture on front was of mountains and a
cabin. A man and a woman were holding hands, as they walked down a path. The
top read. "To The Sweetest Woman"
"Oh, Walker!"
Alex turned to read the inside of the card
The Sweetest Woman
You are my sun,
In a world were there is none.
I never share my burdens alone.
You are the one,
Who brings me my smile,
This smile, has carried me many miles
Each mile I travel has memeries to share;
Because God gave me a woman who cares.
You care about, even my smallest need.
Many lives are blessed, by your good deeds.
I shall always treasure you as a pearl,
The sweetest woman in the world.
Love Always,
Cordell
Alex had tears of happiest in her eyes.
"Oh, Walker, it's beutiful!" She leaned over and kissed him.
"Alex, I am not good with words, you know that. I never have been, and may
never be. But there is something that needs said. It needs said now."
"What's wrong, Walker?"
"Well, we both have been busy. Both of our jobs are very demanding, leaving us
little time alone. And everytime we take a vaction, work seems to follow us...."
"Yeah...."
"Well, it's time that I tell you......I... I love you Alex. I love you more then I have
ever loved any one. You are the love of my life. I don't know what I would ever
do without you. Alex, you are SO special to me, and you're loved SO much...It's
time that you know, just how much you mean to me."
"Oh, Walker! I know how much you love me. I love you too."
"Well, just to make sure you know..... I took a week off, and your boss gave you a
week off also. We are free for seven whole days. I booked a cabin up in the
mountains. They even have horses we can rent. Hot tubs in the cabin, Lake for
swimming, maybe we could rent a speedboat. Big fire places.....Moonlite walks..."
Walker smiled
"Pina-coldas?"
"Yeah, I can even thow in a pina-colada or two."
"Oh, that's GREAT! I love you Walker!"
"I love you too."
Alex reached over and pulled Walker into a big hug.
"Whoa, watch your gifts." Walker laughed as she accidently knocked one to the
floor.
"Opps."she smiled, sitting back in her seat.
"Here, open this one."
Alex took the regtringle box and carefully peeled back the wrapping paper. Then,
taking out the white box, Alex carefully lifted the top, to reveal white tissue paper,
which Alex pulled back.
"OH, WALKER!"
Alex pulled out a stunning, low cut black sequen dress.
"Walker, you didn't have too. I have no place to wear it."
"Yes you do. I have dinner reservations for Deagro's."
"DEAGRO'S! Walker, that's the most expensive restaunt in Dallas!"
"And the best food and dancing. Now go one and open your other gift." Walker
smiled.
Alex glaced over at Walker, then carefully started to unwrape the other box.
Lifting the black velet lid, she gasped.
"Oh Walker, I love it."
She carefully lifting a little 10K gold bracelt with two birthstones out. One was
her's, the other Walker's. Under each birthstone, their initals were carvered.
"Look on the back."
Alex turned the bracelet over and read the carving on the back.
"To the love of my life" 1999
"I remembered you saw that a while back. You said it would be neat if you got one
with our birthstones in it."
"Walker, I don't know what to say. I love it. All of it."
"More then me?" Walker teased, putting on a sad look.
"YOU, of course I could never love anything more then you!"
The Alex slid over to sit next to Walker as he pulled away from the court
house................
THE END
