I am a child of shining innocence.
Don't make me grow in hate, world,
Don't teach me spite and cruelty;
How to deceive, how to cause pain.
Don't tell me to grow up when I dance down the street,
Don't slap me back when I fumble for truth,
Let me be.
I am an angel of whitest purity.
Don't sully me with your dirty hands, world,
Don't tell me that the way things are can't change.
Show me your wars and your hate and your wounds;
Your rotten decays that blight the shiny apple-world beneath -
I will slice them away with my paring knife of flame.
I will see, I will understand your shame
But I will not accept,
Let me be.
I am pale mist in the morning,
I am the sun in the dawn.
I feel the stars through my skin.
I am...
I am...
I AM!
I am ALIVE!
Do not attempt to harm me, you walking undead -
I did not invite you in.
I did not ask for your ugly blessings.
Don't touch me, don't taunt me, don't pour your poison on me
Just let me be.
Or join me.
I wrote this on a long trip as a birthday present for one of my friends. Before I wrote it I had been reading 'A night without armour', Jewel Kilcher's book of poetry, and the influence is obvious. Anyway, this expresses my philosophy towards life on days when I feel good ^_^
