Chapter 28

Alexis and Ned are still decorating the tree.

A- Where's the star?

N- I got an angel instead. Do you mind?

A- No, I don't. I've always wanted an angel, anyways. But how are we going to get it on the top?

N- If I pick you up, do you think you could reach?

A- Maybe. But you're not serious about picking me up.

N- Actually, I am.

Ned puts his arms around her waist.

N- Ready?

A- Sure.

Ned lifts her up and she puts the angel on the tree.

N- I'll go plug the lights in. (after he plugs the lights in) There we go.

He stands in back of her, puts his arms around her, and kisses her cheek. In the background they can see the city all lit up.

A- It's perfect.

N- So are you. Are you blushing again?

A- You caught me. You know, I'm hungry. I believe you still owe me a dinner.

N- I think you're right. Let's go.

Chapter 29

9:00 a.m., Christmas morning.

Alexis and Ned wake up at the same time.

N- Merry Christmas, baby.

A- Merry Christmas. Who said you could call me baby?

N- I did. Is that okay with you, baby?

A- What if I said no?

N- I'd call you that anyways.

A- You wouldn't.

N- Want to bet? Wait, scratch that. Last time I bet with you, I lost.

A- That was pocket change to you.

N- Money isn't the issue here.

A- Oh, I know what is. Your ego. You're upset because you lost to a woman.

N- Well, at least she was beautiful, smart, savvy, sophisticated, and incredibly sexy. If I had to lose to anyone, I'm glad it was you.

A- Should I take that as a compliment?

N- If you want to.

A- Okay, I will.

N- C'mon, I want to give you your present.

A- Wait, let me give you yours first.

There are two presents under the tree.

A- Those are for you.

Ned takes them and goes to sit down. He motions for Alexis to come and sit on his lap. He opens the sweatshirt first.

N- Thank you. I've been meaning to get some more casual wear, but I don't have the time.

Then he opens the cologne.

N- That's my favorite cologne. How did you know?

A- Lucky guess. I wasn't sure what kind you wore.

N- Here's your present.

He hands her a small, wrapped box. She unwraps it and takes out a delicate, heart-shaped, gold locket.

A- Thank you. I love it.

N- Turn it over.

Alexis turns over the locket. Inscribed in it is "To Lexi, Love Always, Ned"

A- It's beautiful. Will you help me put it on?

N- Of course.

They go over to the mirror. Alexis holds her hair up while Ned fastens the clasp.

N- You look gorgeous.

A- Thanks.

N- Look up.

A- Mistletoe!

N- You believe in tradition, don't you?

A- Yep.

N- Good.

Ned takes Alexis in her arms and kisses her.

A- I'm having a very merry Christmas.

N- Me too.
