Chapter 5: How do I live?

After they shower, Ned and Alexis go to the Outback to get food for a picnic at the lake. It's chilly, but they eat outside anyways. It's still early when they finish, so Ned tells Alexis that he has something for her.

N- Since it isn't quite time for the sun to set, I have a surprise for you.

A- What is it?

N- If I told you, it wouldn't be a suprise now would it?

A- (smiling) So?

N- Wait here.

Ned goes to the car and gets a portabel radio.

N- I brought music.

A- I hope it isn't your cd.

N- (feigning shock) I thought you liked how I sang.

A- Oh, I do. It's just that your songs aren't romantic enough for me.

N- I'll show you romantic.

Ned pushes the "play" button on the cassette deck and "How do I live?" by LeAnn Rimes comes on. Then he pulls Alexis up and starts to whisk her around the area where the are.

N- May I have this dance?

A- Of course.

Ned pulls her in closer to him.

How do I get through the night without you
If I had to live without you
What kind of life would that be
Oh, I need you in my arms
Need you to hold
You're my world, my heart, my soul
If you ever leave
Baby, you would take away everything good in my life
And tell me now
How do I live without you
I want to know
How do I breath without you
If you ever go
How do I ever, ever survive
How do I, how do I, oh how do I live
Without you, there would be no sun in my sky
There would be no love in my life
There would be no world there for me
(etc, etc. there is more but I don't know it so...)

After the song ends, Alexis can see the last strands of sunlight.

A- Thank you.

N- For what?

A- Oh, I don't know. For last night, for today. Just for everything I guess. I really don't derserve it.

N- Yeah, you do derserve it and you're welcome. Alexis, why are you getting so sentimental?

A- Well...

N- Alexis, you can tell me anything. You know that. If you don't want to tell me I understand, but I'm always here for you.

A- Well, I am going to tell you.

She looks up at him.

A- (small smile) I guess it couldn't hurt.
