Episode Summary

Jennifer's Plan to Find Clark

(Transcribed by Mystic)

This episode took place sometime in March 1995. Jack and Laura, who had known each other as "Clark" and "Monica," had recently found out each other's true identity when Jack unexpectedly moved into Jennifer's house. Meanwhile, Jennifer wants to make her mom happy and she knows that it means finding "Clark". So she hatches up a plan to do just that.

---------------------------------

[Laura is in the living room typing. Jack walks down the stairs]

Jack - Hey, have you heard from Jenn?

Laura - Uh, yeah. She's doing a piece for the show at Salem Place.

Jack - I'm going over there. I'm gonna see if she needs some hlep. (he starts putting on his coat)

Laura - (gets up and walks over to him, with a disapproving look) Jack...

Jack - Listen, I intend to use this breakup with Peter to my full advantage.

Laura - Don't you think you're pushing too hard?

Jack - No. Last time I held back, Peter got the edge. Now I have the edge and I intend to use it Moni --

[Laura catches that and looks down]

Jack - (frustrated) Laura. (sighs) I have to stop doing that.

Laura - I still think of you as Clark.

Jack - Yeah, listen. We have to be careful. If Jennifer ever found out that I was Clark....

Laura - (interrupts) I don't even want to think about that, okay?

------------------------------

In the meantime, Jenn has this idea to find Clark by mentioning his name on her show. She wants to find him since he makes her mom so happy.

------------------------------

[Laura walks down the stairs and into the living room. She's reading something and doesn't notice Jack. But when she does, her jaw nearly falls to the floor. Jack is lying on the floor doing sit-ups. He has no shirt on, he's just wearing gray sweatpants. He's sweaty all over. Quite a sight!]

Jack - (notices Laura staring at him) Oh, sorry. (he smiles)

Laura - (trying to regain her composure) For what?

Jack - For working out in the living room like this. I haven't had time to join a gym yet.

Laura - (forces a smile) Doesn't bother me.

[Laura sits down at the desk and continues her typing. Jack starts doing the sit-ups again. Laura is trying to type, but is so distracted with Jack. She can't stand it anymore so she turns right around and stares at him. She's got lust in her eyes. Uh oh, Jack. Be careful!]

Jack - (stops with the sit-ups and looks at Laura) Hey, is something wrong?

Laura - (still trying to control herself) No! Um..... I'm gonna make some tea.

[and with that, she rushes into the kitchens. Jack watches after her, looking confused. The phone rings and Jack answers it. It's Alice on the other end]

Jack - Hello.

Alice - Oh, Jack. I'm so glad I reached you.

Jack - (smiles) Mrs. Horton.

Alice - Yes. Now, I know this is last minute but I'd be so happy if you'd come to my party tonight.

Jack - Oh, I'd love to go.

Alice - Jennifer probably won't be there 'till quite late.

Jack - Yeah, she's working tonight. But Mrs. Horton, I'd be there even if Jennifer couldn't show up.

Alice - (smiles) I'm glad, dear. Will you tell Laura to come too because it wouldn't be a party without her.

Jack - Sure, I'll tell her. I'll see you tonight.

[He hangs up the phone just as Laura walks back in]

Jack - Hey! That was Mrs. Horton. She's having a party tonight. We're both cordially invited.

Laura - (still distracted. Jack's still shirtless so it's understandable) Oh, how lovely.

Jack - Yeah. So I guess we might as well both just get ready and go together.

[Jack starts to leave, but Laura stops him]

Laura - No, Jack. I'm sorry. There is no way I can go with you.

Jack - (confused) Why not?

[Laura looks uncomfortable]

------------------------------------

Jack - (moves closer to Laura) So why don't you want to go to the party with me?

Laura - (nervously pauses) Because..... I'm not in a party mood and I have a lot of work to do!

Jack - Look Monica, I'm getting a clear signal that you're not very comfortable around me.

[Jenn walks in the door, but Jack has his back to her]

Jack - You don't want to go to that party because of what happened between us.

Jenn - [loudly closes the door] Well, what exactly happened between you?

[Whoops! Jack turns and looks at Jenn, suprised that she heard him]

Jenn - What are you talking about?

[Laura looks at Jack helplessly. Jack just looks at Jenn, trying to think of what to say]

--------------------------------

Jenn - I assume, by something happening between you, you're referring to the extremely unpleasant events this morning.

Laura - Jennifer, it's okay. Jack apologized. Let's just forget it.

Jenn - You know what, mom? I wanna make sure that he does not do anything to upset anyone in this house. (Jack stares at her) I'm gonna go check on Abby. (she leaves and goes upstairs)

[there is an awkward moment between Jack and Laura]

Jack - She'll get over it.

Laura - Not if she walks into Alice's party and finds you there.

Jack - Well, it's just a risk I'm gonna have to take. (pauses) I'm looking forward to that party.

[Jack stares at Laura for awhile, then takes a towel and starts wiping the sweat off.]

Laura - (finally) Yes, so am I.

[Laura grabs her paperwork and rushes off upstairs. Jack turns around thinking Laura's still behind him, but then realizes that she's not there anymore. He finally finds her flying up the stairs. The phone rings.]

Jack - Hello.

Sandy - This is Sandy. Jennifer Deveraux's assistant. Is she still there?

Jack - Sandy. Hey, this is Jack. She's upstairs with Abby right now. Can I take a message?

Sandy - Yes. Peter's called several times. He left a number: 555-6879

[Jack writes down the phone number on a piece of paper. Jenn comes downstairs]

Jack - Okay. Thank you. (he hangs up)

Jenn - Abby's sound asleep. I'm going back to work.

Jack - (doesn't give her the message) All right. I'll see you later.

Jenn - Not if I can help it, Jack. (she leaves)

Jack - (to himself) There's nothing you can do about it tonight, Jennifer. 'Cause Peter is out of luck, and I have the advantage.

[and with that, Jack tears up the piece of paper with Peter's phone number on it. And he smiles]

------------------------------------

[The party begins! It's being held at the nightclub Peter used to own. The party is celebrating Tom and Alice's anniversary. Jenn's already there when she sees Jack and Laura come in together. Jenn looks ticked off and storms over to Jack]

Jenn - This is a private party, Jack!

Alice - (stepping in) Jennifer, darling. I invited him. I thought you weren't going to be here until much later.

Jenn - Well, the edit took less time than I thought it was gonna take.

Alice - I'm sorry, dear.

Jenn - It's all right. It's not your fault.

[Jenn starts to walk away but Jack grabs her arm]

Jack - Jennifer, just wait.

Jenn - (rips her arm away from Jack) As far as I'm concerned, you are not even here. Okay? (she walks away)

[Jack looks over at Alice, who is looking sad. She's probably thinking about Tom. Jack seems concerned. Jenn is talking to Laura, Jonah and Lexie until Jack comes up to her pulls her away]

Jenn - Get your hands off me, Jack!

Jack - Jennifer, this is not about me. It's not about us. It's about your grandmother.

[Jenn looks at Alice and she seems concerned too]

Jack - We gotta do something!

Jenn - (willing to help) What?

Jack - (pauses) Just wait here. Okay? (he runs off)

----------------------------

[Jenn is standing alone waiting for Jack. By the way, Jenn and Peter had some kind of fight earlier. But Peter's at the party too but they're not speaking to each other. Anyway, Jack finally gets back to Jenn]

Jenn - Oh, where did you go? What happened?

Jack - You'll see. Right about now.

[the song "Always", Tom & Alice's song, starts playing. Jack and Jenn look at Alice who's now laughing with Mickey, Maggie and Laura]

Jack - So what do you say? Will you go along?

[Jenn smiles and she and Jack start dancing]

[Alice comments on the song. Mickey says he remembers a special anniversary not too many years ago. Maggie says, "Oh, that's right! Jack and Jennifer surprised you and dad by recreating the dance!" Laura begins to look uncomfortable. Alice says, "Is there anything sweeter than young love?" Alice smiles and watches Jack and Jenn dance. She then says, "All the love those two have for each other." Laura turns around and ses Jack and Jenn holding each other and dancing. Laura looks extremely jealous.]

[Now Peter turns around and also sees Jack and Jenn dancing. He also looks really jealous. Jack picks up Jenn and kind of twirls her around. This sexy lady walks up to Peter and says hello. He looks at her and says, "Dance with me." Peter takes her onto the dance floor and they start dancing. Jenn sees this and now she's the one getting jealous. And Jack? He's having the time of his life! LOL! Everyone's upset but him!]

------------------------------

[Everyone's still dancing. Jack has a tiny smile. Jenn and Peter's eyes meet and she kind of gives him an evil stare. Song ends and everyone starts clapping, Mickey: "Yaaaay."]

Alice - (to Jenn) You and Jack brought back so many happy memories to me.

Jenn - (smiles) Good. I'm really glad, Grandma.

Alice - I'm having a wonderful time! (everyone laughs) Come on. Let's go over to the table. I want to propose a toast. (Alice, Maggie, Mickey and Laura leave)

[Jenn turns around and looks at Peter, who is still dancing with that woman. Jack looks at them too. Then Jenn, irritated, walks away. Jack is left with a smile on his face. He's enjoying the situation very much]

[Alice makes her toast and everyone clinks glasses. Then Jenn tells Alice that she has to leave now and Alice says okay. Jenn goes to Laura]

Jenn - Would you mind driving me home? I have the worst headache.

Laura - No darling. Not at all.

[Laura walks away and Jenn begins to follow her. But first, she looks straight at Peter again and he looks t her. He's alone now and not dancing anymore. Without saying anything, Jenn walks away. Jack sees all of this. When Jennifer is gone, he walks right up to Peter until they are standing face-to-face. Peter has this look -- 'if looks could kill'. But Jack gives him the biggest smile. Then he walks away with a cute smirk on his face. And Peter is left so ticked off]

----------------------------------

[Back at Jenn's house, Jenn and Laura arrive home. Jenn rushes her over to the couch and turns on the t.v.]

Laura - What happened to your headache?

Jenn - I don't have one. I fibbed.

Laura - Why?

Jenn - (watching the t.v.) Here it comes! Turn around! (they both look at the t.v.)

[on the television screen is Jenn]

Jenn - (from t.v.) All right, today you're gonna be part of something very special. You're gonna help me with my mission, which is a man hunt. The man I'm trying to locate is very important to someone who is very important to me.

[Jack walks in the front door]

Jenn - (from t.v.) Now when they met, this man went by a certain name -- Clark.

[Jack quickly turns around and looks at the t.v., stunned]

Jenn - (from t.v.) So Clark, if you're listening, contact me at my show and I will get you together with the woman you once knew as Monica.

[Laura sees Jack and looks at him, embarrassed. Jack mouths to her, "What is this?"]

Jenn - (from t.v.) Somewhere, you're listening Clark. I know you are.

Jenn - Come on, Clark. Call me! Come on!

[close-up on Jack, who is speechless]

fades out -- end of show
