JAX'S REACTION TO BRENDA'S PROPOSAL



Brenda laughs.

B: What's wrong? Haven't you ever been proposed to before?
J: Yes, but I've never been tempted.
B: Good, lets just go for it, lets just go right now. We love eachother so much I have my driver waiting outside, I'll have him take us to the Airport we--we'll fuel up your jet and go to whereever you want to go or Vegas or anywhere, it doesn't matter just as long as you marry me tonight.
J: Boy you don't make--you don't make things easy.
B: I learn from the master.
J: Look Brenda 'm really flattered & more tempted than you'll ever know, {soft/slow music starts to play} look I can't marry you.
{Camera goes to Brenda}
J: Its far to late.


B: To late for what?
J: For us, You and Me. As lovers or husband and wife as anything more than friends.
B: You don't mean that.
J: I do, look we had our shoot and it didn't take for a reason--there were many to pick from, even the most basic one.. that I'm simply not the man for you.
B: You're wrong!
J: Look Brenda, I had to let you go & that told me something. I didn't necessarily want to know about it, but I didn't need a building to fall on me. Distasteful as it was, as painful as it was, I had to get on with my life without you.
B: listen..... Jax.. I know I've done some really stupid things when it comes to us.... I made some bad mistakes.... Jax interupts: no...no..no... Brenda.....Brenda you followed your heart & it lead you away from me. Now, hearts don't lie, only people do to themselves, to eachother. Look I'm not upset we.... had our chance and it didn't pan out. we took something special...our friends. That's something you'll have for life, no questions asked, no strings attached. But what you're trying to lead, I can't follow.


B: Are you turning me down?
J: ...Yeah.... I am.
B: Why'd you kiss me?
J: You kissed me, Brenda, I reacted. Oh, hell Brenda, I am attracted to you.
B: Oh. You're attracted to me. That's Good.
J: to ensure that this said, it doesn't complicate our friendship. I don't think that--Please don't kiss me again, we're friends, it muddies things.
B: okay I don't want to muddy things for you.
J: you angry?
B: No, I know it hurt you so much when I went back to Sonny. But even so you did say you loved me.
J: I do love you.
B: Can't that be enough? I don't understand why that can't be enough.
J: Because love--because love isn't--look, that's what I've taken from all this, Brenda.. love wasn't enough to keep you with Sonny and love wasn't enough to keep you with me.
B: What if I told you that I know that things can be different for us this time?


J: What are you doing? Brenda, are you promising me forever?
B: Yes.
J: No one can do that.
B: Well I am Jax, I know you. Come on, you don't minimize love, you'd do anything for love. You suddenly expect me to believe that you've become so practical?
J: Causious, its easier on ones nervous system.
B: Well I don't approve of that for you.
J: Why 'cause you're not getting your own way?
B: The Jurys still out on that one.
J: I'm really sorry but our timing really stinks.
B: No, the timings perfect, don't you see? Its so, so perfect. Come on I'm waiting for you to snap out of this. What's wrong with you?
J: I so adore you.
B: I know, so what's the problem? {she whispers}
J: You choose someone else. One min everything was perfect and the next you were a ghost haunting my apartment. And That tells me something fundementally is wrong between us.....probably from the start. And because of that, someone got hurt.....me. So I don't attented to rush headlong back into the mistake I just got done making and I don't think you should be so eager either.
B: I am. I can't help it. I just know we are so right for eachother. You're the most perfect person I've ever known my whole life and I know that I was so stupid and so blind and.. and so under the influence when I was with Sonny that I didn't see that when we were together, But I see it so clearly now and there is just no way in hell I'm going to loose you again.
J: Oh, Brenda. Brenda you're not hearing me.
{music plays}


B: Okay, you're right, I'm not listening well enough. I will adapt.
J: Adapt? What does that mean?
B: Adapt.. it means there are other night, and other nights, and other nights and one of these nights I'll convience you that I'm the one for you.
J: You're impossible... you know that? So I guess we won't be seeing eachother anymore.
B: Oh, you mean that stupid altimadam thing I gave you? That was just for effect. I'm not walking away until I've won.
J: ahh.. you're still not listening.
B: You saw what I did for the wrong man, Jax. You have no idea what I'd do for the right one.
{upbeat music plays}
Jax nods slightly.
B: You're about to fall in love with me again.
J: We'll see.
B: Yeah, We'll see. {pause} sweet dreams.
Jax walks out and shakes his head. Inside Brenda is smiling determinly.
