The history of The Condor Hereos  (Under construction!) As you all may know, the legend of the condor hereos conists of several centuries and thus making it one of the most interesting and difficult series TVB has ever released. That's not so much of a surprise if you knew that the legend of the Condor Heroes is created by THE legendary writer/artist, Gum Yung. I (Peter) and Sanney Leung both like this serie very much and have had many discussions about it. The most fun part of our discussions were our theory about what happened in  the "voids" between the different series The Legend Of The Condor Hereos, The Return of The Condor Hereos, etc. I want to share our theories and knowledge with you, so I've written this page. Have fun! If you want to give your own theory and stuff, I'd like to hear it very much. Just E-mail them to me at this address petervon@worldonline.nl

The different series in chronological order   The Legend Of The Condor Heroes (Sei Diu Ying Hung Chun) The Return Of The Condor Heroes  (San Tiu Hap Nui) The Dragon Sabre & The Heavenly Sword  (Yee Tin To Lung Kei)

What happened in each serie and before and after:  If someone were to rearrange the way things happen in the series into chronological order then the timeline would look something like this: (1) The Creation of Gau Yum Chan King (2) The First Wa Shan Leun Kim (3) Wong Chung Yeung and Nam Dai exchange kung fu’s (4) The Story Of Ying Goo (5) Duen Chi Hing becomes a monk (4) The Legend of the Condor Heros (5) The Return of the Condor Heros (6) Sheung Yeung Falls to the Mongolians (7) The Dragon Sabre & The Heavenly Sword   Everyone who has seen the TV series knows what happened.  But many things happen in the series that aren't explained very well or aren't told.  Here are some of the "voids" from in-between and within the stories: The History of Gau Yum Chan King   What happened in each serie and before and after:   (Pre-Condor Hereos) The History of Gau Yum Chan King      If someone were to rearrange the way things happen in the series into chronological order then the timeline would look something like this: (1) The Creation of Gau Yum Chan King (2) The First Wa Shan Leun Kim (3) Wong Chung Yeung and Nam Dai exchange kung fu’s (4) The Story Of Ying Goo / The Kwok & Yeung family (5) Duen Chi Hing becomes a monk/ The death of Wong Chung Yeung/The Legend of the Condor Heros (6) The Return of the Condor Heros (7) Sheung Yeung Falls to the Mongolians (8) The Dragon Sabre & The Heavenly Sword   Everyone who has seen the TV series knows what happened.  But many things happen in the series that aren't explained very well or aren't told.  Here are some of the "voids" from in-between and within the stories: The History of Gau Yum Chan King   What happened in each serie and before and after:   (Pre-Condor Hereos) The History of Gau Yum Chan King      Once in the Sung emperor's court there was an adviser called Wong Sheung (Wong Sheung was not a king but just a name:  Wong (like Wong Yuek Ce, Wong Yung, Wong Fei Hung) and Sheung (to  uphold).  Anyway, Wong Sheung is an adviser in the king's court.  The king had 10,000 loose scrolls talking about everything from medicine to kung fu.  He wanted Wong Sheung to compile them into one big book.  While Wong Sheung was doing that, he found he was able to discover  some links between kung fu and anatomy.  From this information, he was able to get some insights into loy lick (inner chi) and heut do (nerves, blood circulation).  Using this information and the information in the scrolls about kung fu he developed his own style of kung fu and became a renown fighter.      Feared for the deem muk (death touch, he could strike a person with a fist, finger, whatever, and if he hit the person in a central blood flow area, he could disrupt blood flow or break the blood vessels or clot the blood vessels, causing death).  Deem muk means "touch vessel."      Around the time Wong Sheung became a renown fighter, Ming Gow (from Yee Tin) was spreading around the country.  Ming Gow is a cult that worships the teaching of Zoraster, a person from West Persia  (remember the Persian sect of Ming Gow that came to take Siu Chieu away to become there "sing liu", the sect where Gum Fa Popo came from).      Anyway, this mysterious cult from the West was spreading around China and less and less people were becoming Taoists or Buddhists.  The king was a Taoist and wanted to stop the spread of Ming Gow. He gave an army to Wong Sheung and ordered him to wipe out Ming Gow at Gwong Ming Deng remember ... Ming Gow HQ).  Ming Gow had good fighters plus they were all committed to their cause while the Sung soldiers did not believe in wiping out Ming Gow because some of the Ming Gow people were contributers to society.  So soon Wong Sheung was left by himself as many Sung soldiers abandoned the fight or were killed by Ming Gow people.      You can guess what happens next.  Wong Sheung challenges them to "dan da dok dow" or one on one fights.  Ming Gow people accept.  Wong Sheung kills a lot of Ming Gow people in these duels.  The relatives of the dead Ming Gow people rush to Gwong Ming Deng to seek revenge so soon over a thousand people are lined up to fight Wong Sheung.  Eventually, Wong Sheung gets tired and is injured in a fight.  The leader of Ming Gow lets Wong Sheung go saying that Ming Gow is honorable and will not accept a victory if they outnumber their opponents.      However, some factions of Ming Gow (those who's relatives were killed) are not satisfied, on their return to their hometowns from Gwong Ming Deng, these people kill Wong Sheung's relatives.  Because of this heinous act, Ming Gow beomes widely known as a "mor gow" or evil cult.      Wong Sheung is injured so he can't seek revenge for the killings. Instead, he goes into seclusion and swears he won't come out until he figures out a way to beat all the kung fu systems of the people who killed his family.  This takes 40 years (but Wong Sheung doesn't realize it).  During these 40 years, Wong Sheung has developed many kung fu systems specifically designed to beat the Ming Gow people.                    Because the Ming Gow people have "mor" kung fu, these systems like 9 Yum Bak Gwut Jow and the do chuen but yup (knife, spear, can't penetrate) kung fu that Chan Yune Feng knew are "mor" too.  That's why people called 9 Yum Bak Gwut, etc. "mor" types of kung fu.     Anyway Wong Sheung comes out from hiding to seek revenge, but so much time has passed all his "sow ga" or revenge bearers are all gone except for the daughter of one of the sects of Ming Gow.      Wong Sheung realizes he's old too but so he decides to put all his kung fu knowledge into a book, 9 Yum Jun Ging.  Book I details the kung fu he developed from the 10,000 scrolls, the anatomy knowledge, etc.  Book II details the types of kung fu he developed to beat the people of Ming Gow. He dies soon after that. |  (a few hundreds years later) | The first Wa Shan Leun Kim. This martial arts-contest was organized to decide who should be the owner of Gau Yum Chan King The five Martial Arts experts is known. Dung Che, Sai Duk, Nam Dai, Bak Ko, Chung San Tung. It is decided that Chung Shan Tung, Wong Chung Yeung gets the Gau Yum Chan King and the other four experts went their own way | Wong Chung Yeung gets into some romantic trouble and started Chun Chan Gau with his Si Dai, Chow Bak Tung at his side. His lover hated him for this and withdraw in a tomb near the temple. | Wong Chung Yung withdraw in his Chun Chan Gau to study the Gau Yam Chan King. He understood that the Gau Yum Chan King is too difficult and dangerous to study alone so he went to Nam Dai and asked him to study the Gau Yum Chan King with him together "in exchange" of Nam Dai's "Yat Yeung Tsi-kung fu". He went to Nam Dai because he knew that Nam Dai is a good man. But while they were studying together, Wong Chung Yeung's "Si Dai" (younger classmate) Chow Bak Tung had an affaire with Nam Dai's wife (l'll call her Ying Goo from now on). | At this time a lot of things happens:

The Story Of Ying Goo   When Wong Chong Yeung found out what Chau Bak Tong had done he brought him to Yut Dung and said that he could do to Chow Bak Tung what he wished.  Chow Bak Tung said he would accept anything Yut Dung wants to do.  Yut Dung realized that it's his own fault, because he spent all of his time into kung fu instead of being with his wife, so Yut Dung called out Ying Goo to ask if she loved Chow Bak Tung, but got his answer when, once Ying Goo came in, Ying Goo cried "Bak Tung!" and went to Chow Bak Tung's side. Yut Dung told Chow Bak Tung to leave with Ying Goo.  Chow Bak Tung said that's not the way of a gentleman (fei dai jeun foo so wai) and so he took out the handkerchief that Ying Goo gave him and threw it on the ground.  Then he "faat sai" (swore) never to see Ying Goo again.  The handkerchief had a picture of two white-haired birds together perched on a tree.  Signifying two birds that have grown old together.  On it was the first line of that poem, "say cheung gay, yeen yuen jik jow yuk seung fei..." YD saw it, closed his eyes in grief because the woman he loves loves another.  Chow Bak Tung left with Wong Chung Yeung and Ying Goo picked up the handkerchief and started crying. |Ying Goo expected Yut Dung to kick her out of the palace but instead Yut Dung gave her a better but more secluded place to live.  Hoping to show that he had forgiven her.  But Ying Goo thought because it was more secluded that he didn't want to see her again.  | A few years past after that.

The history of the Kwok & Yeung Family Two war-hereos and good friends in the country, Yeung and Kwok decided to live a simple life with their wifes in Ngau Ka Chun. Both of their wifes got pregnant and they made an deal that when their childs are born and they're both boys, they'll become godbrothers, when they're girls, they'll become godsisters and when they're boy and girl they'll become man and wife. A student of Wong Chung Yeung, Yau Tsu Gay became friends with them and was the bearer of this promise. | The start of The Legend Of The Condor Hereos.   |  Kwok got killed after Yeung's wife saved an Gam Kok (theland of Gam) prince who felt in love with her and decided to kill her husband to get her. In the middle of the fight, Yeung's family got seperated Kwok's wife was also seperated from them.  Yeung's wife thought that her husband had died and left the sad place with the prince (she didn't knew that it was him who killed their husbands). Kwok's wife went to the boundaries of the country, near mongolia. |

Yut Dung wanted to go to her place many times but heard through servants that Ying Goo didn't go out or anything so he thought she was still depressed over Chow Bak Tung so he didn't go visit her.  At the same time, Ying Goo thought Yut Dung really hated her | Anyway, months later the baby is born.  All this time, Yut Dung never saw Ying Goo, he knew she was pregnant though through the servants.  (The servants thought the baby was Yut Dung's but he knew it was Chow Bak Tung's.) |.

The Death of Wong Chung Yeung Wong Chung Yeung gets sick and decided to set a trap for the evil of the west, Sai Duk Ngau Yeung Fung before he dies. He knew that Ngau Yeung Fung wants the Gau Yam Chan King and if he gets it and learnt it, the world would be in big trouble. He faked his death and when Ngau Yeung Fung came to his funeral to get the Gau Yum Chan King, Wong Chung Yeung used all of his strength he had left to use Yat Yeung Tsi and severely injurts Ngau Yeung Fung who retreats. But Wong Chung Yeung had already used all of his strength and died soon after he ordered Chow Bak Tung to keep the Gau Yum Chan King in a safe place and protect it. | Chow Bak Tung went to Dung Che's island, Toa Fa To to tell him that his "Si Hing" died, but Dung Che's wife fooled him by learning the complete Gau Yum Chan Ging by heart and told Chow Bak Tung that that's not the real Gau Yum Tsan Ging. Chow Bak Tung was very angry and destroyed the Gau Yum Chan Ging. Dung Che made his wife write down everything she remembered from the Gau Yum Chan Gin (she's a genius too, so she remembered everything. Although it's a strange langauge). She did that, but was exhausted from it and died soon after she gave birth to her and Dung Che's daughter, Wong Yung. |  .

Later they both gave birth to their childs, Kwok Ching and Yeung Hong. According to their deal, they should be brothers. Yeung Tit Cheung (the husband) was injured severely and went to some place to recover. He adopted a young girl, Mook Lim Chi later. |

One night, Ying Goo brought the baby to Yut Dung's palace and started screaming, "if you wanted to punish me, punish me not the innocent baby." Yut Dung didn't understood what Ying Goo was saying, so YG told that a a man in black tried to kill the baby and that she thought that it was Yut Dung who ordered her to do that. YD explained that it wasn't him that ordered a man dressed in black to come in and kill the baby.  YG believes him and YD asks to see the baby to see what he can do to help.  YD finds out the attacker is very cruel because he didn't hit the baby hard enough to kill, just hard enough to make it in a lot of pain.  One of the baby's "muks" are blocked (plus his rib cage is shattered).  YD says he can save the baby. YD gets ready by removing the baby's quilt but he sees that the quilt includes that handkerchief that she had given CBT.  When YD sees it, he hesitates and sits down and broods.  Ying Goo says, "you are very cruel, you still haven't forgiven me, you still hate me for what I did."  Her hair turns white, she sings a lullaby to her baby and gets it to fall asleep she then pulls out a knife and stabs the baby in the heart. YD was brooding, lost in thought, he fully intended to heal the baby but the shock of seeing the handkerchief made him brood for a while.  So he was too late to stop Ying Goo from stabbing the baby. Ying Goo wraps the baby up in the quilt, then she rips the handkerchief off the quilt and wraps the knife inside of it.  Turning to YD, Ying Goo says, "next time you see this knife, it will be in your chest."  And she leaves. YD despises himself for his hesitation.  He thought if he were a better person he wouldn't have hesitated when he saw the handkerchief.  So he decides to "chuet ga." (become a monk) | As for Ying Goo, she buries her child and just wanders off to the west where she meets up with Ou Yeung Feng.  YG tells OYF her story and her desire to get revenge.  OYF is happy he can "jei do saat yun" (borrow a knife to kill a person) meaning he can use YG to eliminate one of his opponents in the next Wah Shan Lum Gim.  So he teaches YG how to use "dok jeun" (poison palm) how to inject poison when hitting a person and other poison techniques.  (He then draws that picture that YG gave Kwok Ching and WY to give YD when they got to YD's place.) The picture is of a monk who cuts off his own flesh to save a bird.  It's a picture illustrating an old Buddhist parable.  The monk came upon an injured bird and when healing it the bird needed to be fed, but it was a bird of prey and needed to eat meat.  A Buddhist can't kill anything for food, so instead of feeding the bird meat from an animal, the Buddhist cuts off part of his own flesh to feed the bird.  Suggesting to YG, that all she has to do is weaken YD somehow by injuring somone close to him.  For sure, YD will risk his life to save them and when he is weak after saving the person, she could attack. OYF was content to let YG do the work.  However, one day, YG hears that CBT has been imprisoned at Toa Fa Do.  So she leaves Bak Toi Shan and heads for Toa Fa Do.  OYF is perplexed and realizes that he must execute the plan by himself so he went with Ou Yeung Hark to bushwhack Fish (one of the four students of YD).  Fish now has the same injury that the baby had.  YD decides to save Fish but first he must find a place to hide from OYF because after saving Fish, YD's energy would be very low and he wouldn't be able to beat OYF.  That's why OYF couldn't kill YD because YD went into hiding. As for Ying Goo, she got to Toa Fa Do but got lost in the maze.  She walked around for three days then finally collapsed from exhaustion.  Wong Yuek Ce discovers her and orders one of his slaves to take her to the beach, heal her enough to travel and send her on her way.  YG leaves TFD having never seen WYC (she was passed out) or CBT. She realizes that she has to learn "kei moon sut so" (geometry, trigonometry) to solve the maze so she goes back to Da Li.  She finds the quicksand pits and builds a house there, protecting it with a "kei moon sut so" maze from the kmss that she already learned.  She also practiced the kung fu that OYF and YD taught her from before.  She also improved her hing kung by running/jumping in the quicksand.  She was practising kung fu and studying kei moon sut so when Wong Yung and Kwok Ching happened upon her.  Then seeing WY hurt, she remembered Ou Yeung Feng's plan and put it into action.

Chow Bak Tung discovered that he has been fooled so he went back to Toa Fa To to get Gau Yum Chan Ging back. The sad Dung Che didn't want to know anything from the scipture that killed his wife, but he also couldn't destroy it because it's his wife last present to him.  That's why he won't give it to Chow Bak Tung. Chow Bak Tung can't win from Dung Che and stayed on Toa Fa To and kept waiting. | Two of Dung Che's students are romanticly involved and decided to steal Gau Yum Chan Ging and learn from it. Dung Che find that out and  they fled away. In a rage of anger Dung Che broke the legs of all of his students and let them leave Toa Fa To. Dung Che remains with his daughter and tries to teach her everything he knew

Several years later (The story now goes on about Kwok Ching.) | Kwok Ching grew up in Mongolian and became good friends with a mongolian princess and a prince while Yeung Hong grew up as an prince. The two of Dung Che's student who stole the Gau Yum Chan Ging and learnt the evil side of Gau Yum Chan Ging. Yau Chu Gay got into a fight with five heroes while they were trying to hunt after those two. They later understood that they were all good guys so they couldn't decide who is the better martial artists because they shouldn't hurt eachother. They  made a promise to eachother. They'll search for the sons of Yeung and Kwok and teach them everyting they know and let the two kids have a contest when they're at a certain age. | Yau Chu Gay found Yeung Hong and became his teacher. The five martial artists found Kwok Ching and became his teachers. Later The five martial artist found the two of Dung Che's student (Mui Chiu Fung:the woman)and Kwok Ching accidently killed the man of those two while the woman got blind. Kwok Ching also got his hands on the last part of Gau yum Chan Ging. (Gau Yam Chan Ging is divided into an upper an lower part). This is also the time when Kwok Ching got his nickname "Sei Diu Ying Hung" The (Shooting) Condor Hero. Kwok Ching shot two birds (condors) with one arrow and the Mongolian king gave him the name "Sei Diu Ying Hung" | Kwok Ching and his teachers went to their appointment with Yeung Hong after a marriage date with Kwok Ching and the mongolian princess has been set. On their way Kwok Ching left his teachers to get some "Gong Wu Gin Yim" (experience). This is where he met Dung Che's young and beautifull (she's said to be the most beautifull woman alive that time, just like her mother was) daughter, Wong Yung. Wong Yung fell in love with Kwok Ching because he showed so much concern for her and Kwok Ching fell in love with her too (although he doesn't understand his feelings yet). This text describes Wong Yung:  | A lot of things happens to them after that. (this part might not be so chronological correct) They met one of the four martial experts, Pak Koi, Hung Chat Kung. He became Kwok Chings teacher and taught him his "Hong Lung Sap Pat Chung" (the eighteen palms that supressess the dragon) They met Yeung Hong's father and his stephdaughter Mook Lim Chi. Kwok Ching lost from Yeung Hong Yeung Hong's father got to see his wife back, but they both soon died because Yeung Hong didn't want to lose his wealth as a prince. And Yeung Hong's father died with his wife. Mook Lim Chi fell in love with Yeung Hong. Kwok Ching and Wong Yung got seperated from eachother by Dung Che. Kwok Ching followed them and met Chow Pak Tung and learnt the Gau Yam Chan King from him. Kwok Ching won from Sai Duk's nephew from the marriage martial arts contest for Wong Yung (IE who wins gets Wong Yung) but Dung Che found out that Kwok Ching "cheated". Hung Chat Kung got poisened by Sai Duk and later he, Kwok Ching were trapped at an island. Wong arrived later and Hung Chat Kung taught Wong Yung his "Ta Kau Pang Fat" (The Stick's Play To Hit Dogs) and made her the leader of "Goi Bong" the beggars bund because he felt he won't live long anymore. | Later Kwok Ching, Wong Yung and Hung Chat Kung managed to escape from the island and they went to a hotel to cure Hung Chat Kung's poison. But soon after that, Kwok Ching and Wong Yung got seperated from Hung Chat Kung.  | Kwok Ching got a fight with Wong Yung and they got seperated once again.          The Death Of Yeung Hong The circumstances around the death of Yeung Hong are the same in the 1994 version of Legend of the Condor Heros except for the following: (a) the poison that Wong Yung has on her armor is the same poison that Ou Yeung Feng used to kill the sharks in his bet with Chau Bak Tung. (b) when Yeung Hong gets poisoned, first he thinks its just a flesh wound, then his arm goes numb, then he goes crazy and starts attacking people. (c) during this time, one of the flunkies following Yuan Ang Hung Leet, Sa Tung Tin, tries to restrain Yeung Hong.  Yeung Hong scratches Sa's arm and Sa becomes poisoned.  Realizing what happened, Pang Lin Fu chops off Sa's arm.  So Sa becomes the second person of the group to become handicapped. The first was Hou Tung Hoi (the three bumps guy) who had his ears cut off by Chau Bak Tung in the Sung Emperor's Castle when Yuan Ang Hung Leet and his men were trying to steal Mo Mok Wai Shih and Chau Bak Tung was pretending to be a ghost. (d) Just before he dies, Yeung Hong has a moment of clarity.  Yuan Ang Hung Leet takes Yeung Hong outside to his soldiers so they can bring him back to the Gum palace to find the palace doctors to heal him.  But Yeung Hong suddenly goes crazy again.  Seeing what happened to Sa earlier, Yuan Ang Hung Leet leaves.  Yeung Hong convulses in pain, goes limp, and dies. (e)  Crows that are nearby, start pecking at Yeung Hong and pick all the flesh out of his body.  But since his flesh is poisoned, crows start dropping all over the place and eventually all the crows in the area die. At no time does Mok Lim Chee show up. (f)  Later when reunited with Or Jun Lok, Gwok Jing finds out what happened to Yeung Hong.  After Or leaves to go to To Fa Do, Gwok Jing starts to search for Wong Yung but first he goes to the place to bury Yeung Hong.  He gets to the place and it stinks from the flesh of the decaying birds.  All that's left of Yeung Hong's body is the skeleton.  Gwok Jing buries Yeung Hong nearby I'm sure you'll agree that Yeung Hong dies a much more gruesome death in the book than he does in the TV series.
