-3 am-

Alex Garcia walked into lobby of the 3rd floor of General Hospital. Amy Vining and Bobbie Spencer were at the nurse's station talking and going over charts. In the waiting area AJ and Samantha Quartermaine were sitting and waiting for something. He walked over to them and took a deep breath knowing that this would be hard to do.
Alex- Mr. And Mrs. Quartermaine, can I talk to you for a few minutes.
Samantha- Certainly detective. What can we do for you?
Alex- Well, Mrs. Quartermaine I was wondering if you by any chance know a Jack Jenkins?
Samantha- Jack Jenkins is my ex-husband. What about that slime ball?
Alex- He's filed a formal complaint against you and your husband saying that the two of you are not really married and that AJ paid you for the marriage.
AJ- That's absurd, I would never pay a woman to marry me!
Samantha- Jack just want's us to pay him off. All he has ever wanted was money. That's all he cares about.
Alex- That may be so but, I felt I had to tell you this before Dara Jensen informs you.
AJ- Thanks Detective Garcia.
Alex- Your welcome. Well I have to go.

Alex leaves Samantha and AJ and walks over to the Elevator. As he gets near the elevators he looks back over at Samantha.
Alex- (thinking) Sam, what has happened to you? Where is the teenage girl that would come to the station every Friday night to make sure I had a decent meal?
The elevator doors open and Alex steps on. AJ puts and arm around Samantha, Alex sees this and he has a feeling of wanting to protect her.

On Friday afternoon Alex is in the Police station and he's going over some paper work. He looks up as a shadow falls across his desk. He sees Samantha with a bag from Kelly's.
Samantha- When was the last time you had a decent meal?
Alex- Sam, what are you doing here? It's been a long time. Since the last time you were here.
Samantha- Well Alex, I came to see you. It's been a long time since we've talked. I'm surprised you didn't call me Sam the other day at the hospital.
Alex- Well I wasn't sure if your husband would appreciate that?
Samantha- Well AJ and I have Special relationship. I brought your favorite, well at least I hope it's your still your favorite.
Alex- Well as far as I know I haven't changed my mind.
Samantha- Great.

Samantha and Alex continue to Laugh and talk. Everyone around them look at them believing that they are something more then friends. After they finish eating Samantha gathers her things and leaves. Marcus Taggert walks over to Alex and sits on the desk.
Marcus- Who was the girl?
Alex- Remember a few years ago that teenage girl that would come in every Friday night with dinner for me.
Marcus- Yeah Samantha Carrington right. That was her?
Alex- Yeah. She's married to AJ Quartermaine now.
Marcus- Then what was she doing here?
Alex- Well a few day's ago I went to the hospital to tell her and her husband about the charges her ex-husbands brought upon them.
Marcus- How old is she?
Alex- Twenty years old. She's extremely intelligent so she got though High School in a couple of hears and went to college to become a Legal secretary. Rumor has it that she worked for Alexis Davis for a couple of years ago and then a few months ago she married AJ Quartermaine.
Marcus- I wonder how much she got for that?
Alex- TAGGERT!!!
Marcus- AJ Quartermaine is not the most lovable Quartermaine. I mean I heard his first chance of a marriage was ruined when he Father paid off the bride but then last year the whole family started in on him about him getting married since they were afraid he wouldn't.
Alex- Marcus, do you really think AJ Quartermaine paid Samantha to marry him? No even if he did then she wouldn't go for it. Sam's to honest for that.
Marcus- People change Garcia. People change.

Marcus leaves Alex alone and walks down the hall to the records department to look up Samantha Carrington-Jenkins-Quartermaine. He turns the knob and walks in. Her gropes the wall looking for the light switch. He finds it and flips it in the opposite direction. He walks over to the Marriage license cabinet and looks under the Q's. He finds one filed by AJ Quartermaine on July 17th 1998. He then goes over and looks for a pre-nuptial agreement. He find's it and reads it to himself.
Marcus- (thinking) Let's see. Quartermaine must have paid her off. Let's see. Marriage must last at least two years. She can't have an affair, Gets $3,000,000.00 just for the marriage, $8,000,000.00 when there is a divorce. Wait a minute when there's a divorce. I knew it!

Marcus puts the file back and turns out the light and leaves the file room. He walks back to his desk and get's his coat and leaves. Alex has already left.
Marcus- (thinking) He's got it bad for her.

A few weeks later Samantha is walking though the park and she stops at the bench. She had just left the Quartermaine mansion after another one of their horrid fights. She sits down and looks up at the tree tops. She then hears a familiar and comforting voice.
Alex- hey, what are you doing alone in the park? Samantha- Thinking, the mansion is no where near quite enough to even hear yourself speak. They're all so loud.
Alex- Well I know Edward is and I've seen them together. It can be scary.
Samantha- What are you doing in the Park. Shouldn't you be at work?
Alex- I have the day off and decide to get some air.
Samantha- Well the park is one of the best places in town.
Alex- So what's new with you Sam?
Samantha- Nothing.
Alex- Nothing? Why don't I believe that? Is something wrong between you and AJ?

Samantha looks away from Alex.
Alex- Sam?
Samantha begins to cry .
Samantha- Alex, I don't love him. I never have. I only married AJ so I could have some money to pay Jack to go away every few years.
Alex- Why?
Samantha- Because Jack and I had a terrible marriage. It never worked out. He was always after money and nothing more.
Alex- Oh Sam. If you needed money or help you could have come to me.
Samantha- I hadn't seen you in forever. I stopped bringing you Friday night dinners when I started to see Jack. He took away a lot of my life. Then shortly after we were married I realized I was in love with someone else.
Alex- Who?
Samantha looks up at Alex with tears in her eyes.
Samantha- You.
Alex- What? Are you sure it wasn't a teenage crush?
Samantha- That day at the Hospital brought back feelings I've had for you. I can never have those feelings for anyone else. Not another person.

Alex looks at Samantha he sees how vulnerable she is and how smart,intelligent, and afraid she is. He puts his arms around her and they look in each others eyes. Unknowingly Alex and Samantha move closer together and there lips lock into a deeply passionate and Loving kiss. After a few magic moments between them Samantha breaks away.
Samantha- No, I can't.
Alex- Why not?
Samantha- AJ and I have a deal. We have a year left on our marriage. It's in the pre-nup.
Alex- Oh.
Samantha- Besides you haven't told me how you feel about me.
Alex- I've been afraid to think about it.
Samantha- You have to decide and find out what your heart is thinking.
Samantha leaves and walks away. Alex sits on the bench thinking about what he feels when she's around.

A few day's alter Alex is alone in his apartment thinking about Samantha, that's all he's thought about for day's. He picks up his phone and dials the Quartermaine mansion.
Alex- Hello,….Yes I would like to Speak to Samantha Quartermaine….What?…When…Okay….Bye.
Alex grabs his coat and runs to the door.

About a half hour later Alex is in the Emergency room of General Hospital. Samantha had been brought in after AJ found her not breathing this afternoon as she was asleep. Alex sees the Quartermaines and rushes over to speak to them.
Alex- How is Sam?
Edward- How do you know her?
Alex- She's from my neighborhood. She use to bring me dinner every Friday night.
Monica- One of the interns is in with her. I have no clue which one. This group is soooooo much trouble.

A few moments later Matt Harmon rolls out of the exam room and over to the Quartermaines and Alex.
Matt- Mr. AJ Quartermaine?
AJ- Yeah. What's going on with Samantha.
Matt- She had heart failure, we were lucky and able to start her heart again. She's being brought up to ICU and then it will be family only.
AJ- Thank you.
Matt rolls away and AJ clasps his hands.
AJ- She's alive. Thank God she's alive!

AJ is over whelmed with joy. Alex stands away from the family feeling elated himself. It was then at that moment he realized that Samantha was a kid sister to him. Nothing more, nothing less. He could tell that AJ had fallen in love with her and was ready to make there marriage real and he had known that Sam really loved AJ and was afraid of the idea of real love.

Now if only Alex Garcia could find his own soul mate.
