PROFILE OF THE OLD ONE

Karl moved to Erinsborough from the "bush" with his wife, Susan (Jackie Woodburne), sons Malcolm (Benjie McNair) and Billy (Jesse Spencer), and daughter Libby (Kym Valentine) after rumours spread that he had killed one of his patients. The Kennedys bought Number 28 Ramsay Street, after the Willis family moved out in late 1994. They were nearly beaten to buy the house after Karl got into a bidding war for it, with the very boring Colin Taylor (Frank Bren). Colin eventually gave in when Karl offered $250,000 for the house.

Soon after moving in, Karl became the local GP, moving into Paul Robinson's old office at Lassiters with new partner Dr. Tamsin Kaldo, where he treated all his friends and neighbours' ailments. In between patients, Karl spends a lot of time in the Coffee Shop, where he enjoys blueberry muffins and caramel slices aplenty!

During his very busy three years down Ramsay Street way, the Doc has been in involved in numerous interesting storylines. He became a little too close to one of his dying patients Kate Cornwall. Susan was shattered when he travelled through the night to attend her funeral. He tried, unsuccessfully, to persuade Susan to have another baby. Susan refused point blank, only for her to do the same a year later when she felt unnecessary after Malcolm moved away! He was lost in the bush (twice!) and returned a new man - twice! The first time, the family was furious when he banned television in No. 28 after his return. When he returned from a disastrous fishing trip with friends Lou Carpenter (Tom Oliver) and Philip Martin (Ian Rawlings).

Karl had a bit of a snog with his very young secretary, Sarah Beaumont (Nicola Charles). And after many traumas , tears , confessions , weird meetings the two may have shared a night together in A motel . But would he really have been unfaithful ?? Who knows .

But perhaps the most traumatic incident he has had to deal with was the death of his neighbour, Cheryl Stark (Caroline Gillmer). He was on the scene when she was knocked over by a car, trying to save her daughter Louise (Jiordan Anna Tolli). She later died, due to an injection he gave her, which reacted badly with anti-depressants prescribed by another doctor. Her death left him a broken man and he vowed never to practice medicine again.

Only four months later, however, when a freak accident while he, Mal and Darren were renovating Chez Chez (which, spookily, used to belong to Cheryl) endangered Mal's life, Karl was forced to return to his former self and save the day, and his son, by performing an emergency tracheotomy. This incident provided him with the confidence he needed and soon after he returned to medecine. However, he was forced to accept locum work when Dr. Kaldo refused to have him back at the surgery. She later moved out of the surgery, and Karl took over the practice alone. Ruth Wilkinson soon moved her physiotherapy practice into the surgery, and Karl took on receptionists Sarah Beaumont and Marlene Kratz (Moya O'Sullivan). Marlene left Erinsborough and since the kiss..things have been decidely frosty between karl and sarah...much to Sarah's dissappointment Karl saved Sarah's life after she fell off a cliff (as ya do) and she is forever grateful (i'll bet!).And now it seems the the girl may finally get her wicked way....ofcourse we all wish she would one of these days!!!But now Susan has slapped him and forgiven him , would he really be stupid enough to have his cake and eat it ? (twice!)

About Alan Fletcher

Interestingly enough, Alan has been in Neighbours before as Des Clarke's (Paul Keane) friend, Greg Cooper in 1989.

He IS NOT 39 ..........not that Inside Soap have been saying that for about 4 years or anything!! Noo hes actually 41 (sorry!) still although he says that: "People always ask me what the make up department does to make me look older, I tell them - absolutely nothing. That's the way I look I guess!"

Unlike Karl, Alan is more of a spiritual healer than a medical man and is into Indian Gurus, namely Sia Baba (who?!) Jackie Woodburne (Susan) and he used to play brother and sister in a sitcom called Cop Shop years ago. Could this be time for Neighbours to introduce an incestuous couple?! Nicola Charles who is (not) soon to leave the show says she will miss working with none other than Alan Fletcher
