Buffy and her mother walked onto the plane and looked for their seats. Buffy spotted hers and plopped down into the soft chair. Buffy's mom got two weeks off every year for vacation. Her being the boss of her two galleries and all she got to decide who gets how much vacation time. But Buffy had to be enjoying her sucess more, she hadn't had a real vacation since she moved to Sunnydale and she needed one.

"So do we get thoughs cool peanuts and the complimentary wine?" Buffy asked removing her sunglasses and giving a playful smile to her mother.

"Peanuts, yes, wine, no." She said sitting next to Buffy after putting their carry-ons in the bagage compartment above them. "And get your feet off the seat, this is first class." She said giving Buffy playful slap to the leg.

"How come you never put me in first class when I went to see Dad?" Buffy asked while taking her feet off of the seat in front of her and looking through a tour book the stuartist had handed out earilier.

"Before this second gallery we didn't have enough money to hardly do anything, thats why."

Buffy nodded and looked out the window as the pilot reported that they would be leaving shortly and would need to fasten their saftey belts. It was only sixty-seven degrees in Sunnydale but Buffy had to dress for summer, since they were going to Hawaii. She had put on her tie-die speggetti strap shirt and jean cut-offs. Which her mother had insisted on her not wearing.

"So how do you feel about Kilaueu?" Joyce asked.

"What's Kilaueu?" Buffy said giving her what-the-hell-are-you-talking-about look.

"The volcaneo Kilaueu, it's magnificent. It is highly active and you can even see lava flow." Joyce said going into science girl mode.

"Oh, well I was planning on going to the beach." Buffy said with a smile.

Of course it wouldn't be too much fun without Angel, but who was she kidding its not like he could be out there with her. Being kind of sun sensitive and all.

"I so need the beach," she said excitedly. "In Sunnydale you get no sun, it sucks." She pointing to her legs.

"Don't be silly, look at you, you are twice as tan as I am." Joyce protested holding out her arm.

"I must get it from dad's Italian side." She said doing her tough Italiano chick impression.

They laughed then Joyce got out a book and Buffy got out a magazine and did quizes and puzzles for an hour.

"Ecscuse me ladies, would you like some dinner?" A kind stuartist said as she handed them menus. "We have crab, fetticinii, salomn, and carp. Our antreis are on the back."

"Thank you, we'll just take a minute." Joyce said looking through the menu.

"Uh hu," Was the stuartists perky reply and she walked back behind the curtain near the cock-pit.

"Well I think I'll go for the carp and the soup with a dacueri." Joyce said closing the menu, "What about you?"

"Just a salad for me, I'm not too hungry." Buffy said closing the menu.

"But I'll go for that dacueri." She said with a smile.

"No you most certainly will not." Joyce replied with a slight laugh. Buffy rolled her eyes and gave in, "Fine, fine I'll have chef salad with Italian dressing and a pepi."

"Pepi?"

"Pepi, short for Pepsi." Buffy clarified to her confused mother.

"I need one of thoughs teen dictionaries." Joyce said as she waved down the stuartist.

Joyce told her what they wanted and Buffy gazed down below at the passing landscape and saw Sunnydale. She smiled when she saw the tiny school from up in the air and wondered what Willow was doing. She was probobly out at the Bronze with Xander and maybe Angel.

After they ate it became dark as they raced the sun over the horrizon. When everyone else was asleep she walked to the front where the phone booths were and dialed Willow. She was asked to sit down after getting caught talking for over fourty-five minutes with Willow and Xander and over two hours with Angel. She went back to her seat and fell asleep after trying to read her magazine.

"Well the slayer is alone in a concealed island with none of her little brat friends to interfear." Spike said as he heard the news of the absent slayer.

"I don't like her Spike, that little bitch has messed with the wrong vampire." Drusilla said as she cut the hair off of one of her discustingly wierd dolls.

"Dru how do you feel about killing every last one of these petty pasty faced brats Dru? We can kill 'em all and you never know, dinner and a movie?" Spike said as he put his arms around Drusilla as they talked over their plan. But niether saw the dark figure in the shadows listening to every detail.

Buffy woke up to a loud vibrating noise and her eyes shot open. Suddenly the pilots voice came calmly over the intercom.

"Folks we'll be experiencing a little turbulence, but please don't panik it's just a tropical squal. They happen all the time in these parts, so sit tight." When the pilots message died the passengers were left with the rocking and jerking as they herd the rummble of thunder getting louder and louder.

"This isn't like any terbulence I've ever felt." Buffy's mom said as she looked over Buffy out the window.

"Well you know what they say, you haven't felt terbulence till you try the tropics." Buffy said while clutching the hand rests. "How can the rest of these people be so calm?" Buffy said seeing that about half of the people were just sitting reading or trying to sleep.

"I don't know." Joyce said pulling out her book.

Buffy rolled her eyes, "Great you too."

They sat and were fine until a loud crash jerked the plane to the left and the lights went out. Then even the calm people jumped and screamed. Suddenly there was silence and Buffy looked out the window in horror to see the engines slowing to a stop.

"We were struck by lightning!" Buffy cried as she jumped up and rushed to the cock-pit even though her mom tried to stop her. She went through the curtain and saw one of the stuartists lying on the ground face down. She bent down and checked her pulse and could n't find it.

"Oh my God." She said in almost a whisper. Then as she stood up another jerk sent her flying to the wall then she heard a loud hissing sound that got louder until it was ear piercing. She tried to stand but was knocked off her feet by a strong wind that sucked her backwards. She looked to see that there was now a huge chunk taken out of the wall and air was being sucked out. She was about twelve feet from it and grabbed onto a doorway as she smacked into it.

"Hold on!" She heard a voice say.

She looked over to see a guy making his way to her grabbing onto anything to keep him up. The plane was almost half way tilted and it was hard to hold onto anything.

"No stay back!" She yelled but he ignored her and advanced. He got to her a offered his hand to her. She reached for it but it was hard to go against the wind. It was lessening, which meant they were slowing down and then it hit her. They were going to crash. She lunged forward and took his hand and they made their way slowly to first class.

"Thanx," Buffy said when they got through the curtain. He smiled at her, "No problem, I was just going back to my seat. Didn't know it'd be so hard." He yelled against the wind.

Buffy smiled and they grabbed their way back to Buffy's mom. "Buffy young lady what did you think you were doing!?" Joyce yelled when Buffy got back to her.

"Mom we're going down, we've gotta jump or this thing will take us with it to the bottom of the Pacific." Buffy said getting the emergency pack from above them.

"No they'll get it under control, lets just wait for them to tell us what to do!" Joyce yelled.

Then the hissing stopped and the tail went down and the nose went up. "The planes gonna break in half, lets move!" He said giving Joyce a life preserver from the baggage compartment. "I'll get supplies from the back of the plane, you and your mom jump from the door farthest back!" And then he was gone.

"Ok mom lets go." Buffy said after a short pause. They had life preservers on and Buffy had the emergency pack. They were walking normally now cause the sucking was now a light wind. They saw only about half of the people that had gotten on. Does that mean the rest were dead she wondered. They saw people unconcious and dead but tried not to look. Then a little boy woke up from his small blow to the head and began criing. Buffy looked to the side about five feet and saw him. She quickly grabbed him and checked his mom's pulse. She was dead and tears began to fall down her face. She took out one of the other life vests and put it on him and they walked to the farthest door to the back.

"Ok when I say go, jump straight out feet first." Buffy said to her mom as she held the little boy. Her mom nodded and hugged her quickly then opened the door and held to the wall.

"The water is about one hundred feet down...I think." Joyce said as she looked out the door. "If we jump out this high wouldn't that kill us?" Buffy shrugged and looked around then out the door, while hooking her life vest to the still criing boys' vest. Buffy looked in his eyes and gave a sad smile, "You'll be ok don't worry, we're gonna make it." The boy stopped crying but looked up at her with his brown eyes with a fearful and sad look on his face.

Buffy heard a breaking sound and the plane began to creak and snap. There was a small jerk and Buffy stummbled to stay on her feet.

"Hey I think we should go ahead and jump, its getting too dangerous." Buffy said as she turned to see her mother, but she was gone.

"Mom?" She said as she looked out the door. "Mom!!" Then she saw the water about twenty feet below, and she jumped out clutching to the small boy. She fell for what seemed forever then hit the water, blocking the stining water from the boy she hit it with her legs and back. She felt a sharp pain go from her ankles to her neck and criied out. The boy too criied and she swam away from the direction she thought the plane was headed but her head was swimming on the boarder of unconciousness. She heard a crash and pieces of metal and debris flew everywhere. One hit her shoulder and she criied out as she saw blood, thats not good, blood means sharks will be here soon.

"Are you ok?" She asked the boy as she looked for her mother.

"Mommy?" he said looking around and shivering from the cool ocean water. He was looking at a woman in the water, or what was left of her. Buffy cringed and covered his eyes as she swam past her body as quickly as she could. Buffy was exausted and turned in the water wondering which way was north or south. The full moon was the only light that they had, but it was bright enough for them to see a little.

"Hello?!" She shouted as she tried to listen to any motion.

"Is anyone out here?!" She stopped swimming and floated, resting and holding her bleeding shoulder. They stayed there for about ten minutes until she heard something behind her moving through the water. She turned and saw the outline of a large tarped rubber boat then heard a voice.

"Hey get in, it's freezing in there." It was the young man who had saved her on the plane.

"Thank God!" She said as she handed him the little boy who was quietly weeping. Then she pulled herself into the boat with all of her strength, slayer strength was the only thing keeping her and the boy from dieing.

"Your shoulder's bleeding pretty bad." He said pulling a bandana off of his head and putting it on her shoulder.

"Thank's, again." she said holding it to her shoulder as she unhooked the two feet line that was attached to the little boys vest to hers.

"Where did you find this?" Buffy said leaning back against the tarp.

"They have twenty in the back of every boat." He said pulling his life vest off. "I fly alot, about twenty to thirty times a year." He added to her next unspoken question.

"Wow, thank god you were on my flight." She said taking off her vest and emergency pack. "what do you think is in here?" She said handing it to him.

He took it and opened it. " Food, water, flares, a small blanket, small oxygen tank, some matches, and some little stuff." He said pulling out small trinkets and patching kits.

"Well how long will this last us?" She said holding the small boy in her lap looking over his small bruises and a bump on his head.

"Well I got a smaller one so I'd say if we use it sparingly...three days to four, max." He said as he closed it up and held out a bandage and a sterilized wash pad.

She took it and cleaned and bandaged her wound, "Well will someone find us?" She said looking up at him. He took a deep breath, "Ya...eventually, I hope soon." And with that he lay down and smiled.

"You should rest, so should he."

"Ya," And she lay down with the boy in front of her. He fussed a little but setteled down after a while. The raft was about eight or nine feet in diameter and had a small supply case with flares, some sharp metal sticks that probobly went to a radio, and a pocket of food and water. And they slept deep and quietly in the dark night.

"Ok, Go fish." Xander said as he smiled over at Willow on the other side of the table. Xander had decided to go to Willow's and they were gonna watch movies and play games.

"Xander you have an eight I saw it!" Willow said looking Xander in the eye.

"I knew you cheated! You always win this game....I knew there was a flaw." Xander said handing over his eight.

"Well Mr. looser we should go to sleep, its six in the morning." Willow said. But that did it, calling Xander a looser set them into a wrestling match. About ten minutes into the match the phone rang. Willow pulled away and answered the phone.

"Hello?..yeah..So what are you saying?...........Oh my God, sure I'll call him whats his number?....uh hu.....ok....bye." Xander was intriuged by the words she had spoken to the unknown speaker and was up on his feet.

"So whats up Wil?" She looked up while she dialed the phone and held up a fingure to silence him.

"Angel its me Willow," She said worriedly into the phone. "No its Buffy....We don't know.....well yes but the plane went down but they can't find very many remains of it so.....I know......I hope so.....ok see ya then." She hung up the phone and turned to Xander.

"Yes the plane Buffy was on should have landed an hour ago so their reporting it lost, but this is Buffy we're talking about... she'll be the one...if any to survive." Willow said fighting the tears but failing miserably. "Angel will be here at sunset." She gave Xander a hug and they cried untill the sun went down and Angel came over. The first words out of his mouth were 'no'. "No...she won't die like this, she made it, she's strong...we've gotta get a search party out." He said while pacing the room nervously.

"They can't get the caost gaurd out there until Monday." Willow said as she twirled a pencil in her hand.

"Monday?!" Angel shouted, "By then she'll be dead we've got to get out their now!"

"Hey! Yelling isn't going to make things any better so just every one try to remain sane...I mean I thought I was the only exception here." Xander said in a poor attempt for a joke. He saw no one was amused and he sat down quietly.

"He's right, we'll never get anything done if we don't work together." Willow said setteling down a little as she set down the pencil.

"Thank you." Xander said standing back up.

"I don't care what we do, all I know is I'm going to get a boat..." Then he stopped and added quietly, "But I'll need someone else to steer during the day." Angel looked at the others and they nodded.

"I'll call Giles." Willow said as she picked up the phone.

"Yay, road trip." Xander said as he walked to the door,

"What will I wear?" Then he left to go make up some weird story to his mom and pack.

"Well I'll get some things and meet you back here in an hour." Angel said to Willow as she nodded to him and explained the plan to Giles. Then they had a little over an hour to get ready and meet to discuse the money problem.

Buffy had just woke up and was looking out the zip-shut doors on the side of the raft. She hadn't stopped thinking about her mother and the tears were streaming down her face as she dipped her fingers in the cool Pacific water.

"You better not put your hands in the water." A voice said from behind her. She turned to face the stranger who had saved her life more than once.

"Why?" She said wiping the tears away.

"Because your hands have blood on them from your wound and sharks will smell that, probobly already have." He said opening the other zipper doors. Buffy pulled her hand out of the water and sat with her knees against her chest. "So whats your name?"

"Matt, Matt Wilson, and you?" He said tilting his head to the side.

"Buffy Summers." She said with a smile.

"Unusual name, I like it."

He paused after a while then took her hand, "I'm sorry about your mom."

He said with a knowing tone. "My mom died when I was thirteen... It sounds stupid but I would give anything to here her yell at me again. I can just hear it ' Matthew Damon Wilson your grounded," He said in his impression of his mom.

Buffy forced a small smile but then straightened. "Maybe she made it. Maybe someone saved her." But then she hung her head down and knew it couldn't be.

"It's ok." He said quietly.

Then the litle boy stirred and Buffy went over to him. He sat up and rubbed his eyes. "Mommy?" He said looking around then remembering where he was.

"Hi there," Buffy said softly. " Are you hungry?" She asked pulling him into her lap. He nodded and she looked up at Matt.

"Right, food." He got the back pack and unzipped it pulling out a package of food and separating it into three portions.

"Thats not very much." Buffy said holding her portion of the beans, bread, and a small carrot.

"If you wanna live longer then you'll have to eat less and conserve your energy for storms." He said as he slowly ate his food.

"Man, I would kill for a hamburger and fries." She added as she ate her small meal.

As the day went on they sat and talked and went through their supplies and what they would do in an emergency. They had found out the little boys name was Alex and that he was three years old. They had everything in the emergncy pack sorted through and in convenient places for easy access to get to.

"And if you hear a plane at any time point this straight up in the air and shoot once and if the plane doesn't circle shoot again." Matt said as he showed Buffy the flare gun.

"I know how to us a gun." She said picking it up unloading it and putting it away. "Although I'm used to cross bows and sta...knives." She said covering up how odd it would be to fight with wooden stakes as weapons.

"A woman of many talents." He said surprised at her knoweledge.

"You'd be surprised." She said knowing that he'd flip if he only knew the half of it.

"So where do you come from?"

"Sunnydale, it's about fourty miles away from L.A. I lived there too for a while." She said remembering her friends back in Sunnydale.

"And a boyfriend? You'd think a pretty girl like you would have one." He said but she couldn't tell if it was a pass or an inocent question.

"Yes, his name is Angel. What about you, where do you come from?" She said answering it pointedly.

"I'm from where ever I was when I was born. I can't really remember, I've lived on my own for so long." He said thinking deeply.

"Well I'm going to sleep its the only way to pass the time quick enough." She said as she laid down.

"Me sleep too." Alex said laying down next to Buffy, she smiled and they all drifted off to where ever the curent was taking them.

Angel and the others had agreed that in order for it to seem more real to their parents they said they were going to get ready for the trip the next day then leave when they were accually leaving that day.

"Well I supose we should go to the caost gaurd and see if they will start the search." Giles said while driving down the high way that went along the coast.

"And if they don't we'll go without them." Angel said flatly.

"Yah." Xander added. They drove for thirty more minutes and finally got to the caost gaurd head quarters. They went in and asked for whoever was in charge and were told to wait.

"The longer we wait the longer Buffy's out there." Angel said pacing the room.

"Angel if Buffy's out there they'll find her." Willow said quietly. Suddenly a voice spoke up from behind them.

"Are you the group requesting a search?" A man asked while looking at a report.

"The flight you asked about went down yesterday. We've found remains and two survivors, both females." He said matter of factly.

"Do you have their names?" Willow asked excitedly from her chair.

"One Summers and one unidentified, she's still at the hospital so we'll have her identified soon." He said handing Giles the report.

"Summers?" Angel said with a little hope in his eyes. "Buffy Summers?"

"Uh...nope, Joyce. Do you know her?" He said looking at a list he had in his hands of the people on the flight. Joyce's name and one other was circled in blue all but four others were circled in red.

"Well are there any missing, or is that it?" Xander said as he read the report over Giles shoulder.

"There are four missing, we've pronounced them lost at sea." Then a woman came up and whispered in his ear and he excused himself and left.

"Look at all the people that died on that flight." Willow said looking at a chart that the man had left behind. "All the ones circled in red died, can you believe this?...Wait a minute, Buffy's name isn't circled at all." She said showing Angel the chart.

"Does that mean they haven't found her, or have but..." Xander trailed off of his thought and kept silent while the others looked at the chart.

"Well I need some answers, if she's out there we need to know." Angel said as he walked to the front desk. He set the chart on it and looked around the other side of the desk for anyone who could help them. He finally got discouraged and hopped over the counter and walked up the man they'd talked with earlier.

"You can't be back here without authorization, in case you haven't noticed we're a little busy." The man said as he saw Angel appraoch.

"We need some answers." Was Angels reply. "There are four unacounted for people on that list, does that mean their still out there?" He said to the man in an angered tone.

"Look, you'll get answers when I have them. We're authorizing a search party but we don't know if their alive they could be at the bottom of the Pacific, you don't realize how dificult it is." The man said as he put thumb tacs on a map on the wall.

"I'm going with if you're going out there to find them." Angel said as he looked at the map.

The man turned towards him. "Come with me, I'll get in trouble if you're in here." He said as he walked to a room in the back of the building. Angel stopped and told the others to come on around. They entered the room and sat down in the black chairs scattered in the room.

"My name in Dan Saunders and I'll answer any questions you have as best as I can." He said while sitting behind his desk.

"The people not circled on your list, are they missing or..." Willow said trying not to sound worried.

"They are missing but at the same time we don't know if their alive. We won't know for sure, unless we find them they are presumed dead if not found in four days." He said as he rubbed his forhead.

"So she could be alive!" Xander said while he constantly moved around in his chair.

"She could be but, we aren't for sure. We'll search up to one hundred square miles a day, so if those people are alive and out there we'll find them."

"So you'll find them? We're looking for a girl, Buffy Summers. Joyce's daughter."Giles said to Dan with a deep concern in his voice.

"We can only promise to do our best, and thats what we'll do." He said with a slight nod.

"Well what do we do?" Xander said still restless in his chair.

"You wait until you hear from me." He said bluntly. "I have to go, the chopper leaves in twenty minutes." And then he left.

All was silent until Xander finally stood. "I don't wanna wait, waiting is not something I'm good at." He winned as he paced the room.

"Calm down Xander, they'll find her. It doesn't look like we can tag along this time." Willow said as she got up and left the room.

"I agree we should probobly wait for them to call us. But if they don't find her in two days...I'm going out there." He said as he and the others followed Willow out the door.
