Buffy and Angel meet up for their date; they kiss.
Angel: Buffy, what's wrong?
Buffy: What are you, psychic or something?
Angel: It's not all that hard to tell.
They sit down.
Buffy: Really, it's nothing.
Angel: Nothing?
Buffy: Well, it's just, well… Snyder put me in charge of this new student and if he makes any trouble, we're both eighty-sixed.
Angel: How do you know he's going to make problems.
Buffy: I know him.
Angel: Oh.
A jealous look is forming.
Buffy: His name is Pike. He used to be my boyfriend and we never officially broke up.
Now Angel looks truly jealous, not to mention worried.
Buffy: You, do not need to fret… I'm the one who needs to. He knows who I am, not to mention he also kind of lent me a hand in LA. He was the one who helped me burn down the school… And I know him, he's going to want to play the slaying game and we both know how well that keeps you out of the principal's office.
Angel: You haven't seen him in a while right?
Buffy nods.
Angel: Then maybe he's changed, maybe he doesn't want to join the club anymore.
Buffy: I hope your right. You're probably right. You're always right. Do you realize how annoying that is?
A smile spreads across his face and she leans in to kiss him again. Just before they kiss…
Buffy: Oh no.
Angels smile fades.
Angel: What?
He turns around to see what she sees: a really good looking guy wearing black leather boots, army pants, a white t-shirt, and a silver cross around his neck.
Buffy: Pike?
Pike: Buff! I've been looking everywhere for you!
Buffy and Pike hug. Angel starts to get a pained look.
Pike: I should have known you'd be partying. God, it's great to see you; I've missed you.
Angel walks up behind Buffy before she has a chance to answer. He slips his arms around her waist.
Angel: You gonna introduce me?
Buffy: Oh, oh… okay. Pike, Angel. Angel, Pike.
The two guys shake hands.
Pike: Cold grip.
Angel glared, remembering Ford.
Angel: So I've been told.
Buffy: Well, now we all know each other. Let's sit. I need to sit.
She was almost hyperventilating.
Pike: Whoa, Buff, chill.
Before they had a chance to sit down Willow and Xander come running in.
Xander: Buffy, Angel, trouble, now!
He was all out of breath and became weary when he saw Pike.
Xander: Who's this? Explain later, we gotta go!
Buffy: What's up?
Willow: Spike, Drusilla, a new guy named 'Ran (?)', and many, many minions all coming for you.
Angel and Pike: Ran!
They both looked at each other, then at Buffy.
Pike: He led the vamps in LA after you left.
Xander: Now he knows too. Do you understand the word secret?
Angel: Buffy, you've got to get out of here, now.
Buffy: Tell me what's going on, whose Ran?
Angel: You have to trust me. Run, don't stop until you're home.
Buffy: But...
Angel: Trust me.
Buffy: Fine, but what about you?
Angel: I'll bring up the back. Go.
Buffy kisses Angel.
Buffy: Be careful.
Angel: You too.
Xander: Can we go now?
They all leave.
Buffy was pacing around the room.
Buffy: Where is he, he should have been back by now.
Willow: Buffy, Angel can take care of him self. I'm sure he's fine. He'll be here soon.
Just then the door burst open revealing Angel dragging Giles and Ms. Calendar following. Angel was in vamp mode.
Angel: Buffy, give me a hand.
Buffy: What happened?
Pike's jaw is now hanging wide open.
Buffy: You had me worried sick.
Pike: What the hell is going on here? Why aren't you slaying him?
Pike gestures towards Angel.
Buffy: Oh, long story, I'll explain later.
Jenny Calendar: For now, he has a soul, he's on our side.
Buffy turns back to Angel.
Buffy: Now, what happened?
Angel: I knew he'd be at the library and he wouldn't be safe. They'd kill him to get to you… and me. He was already fighting off five minions when I arrived. I had passed twenty more on the way.
Willow and Ms. Calendar were tending to Giles's welts with a damp cloth and he was beginning to stir. Angel's face morphed back to normal and his eyes glazed over. He was staring out a window.
Angel: This is all my fault.
Buffy: What?
Angel: I made them. I created them… Spike, Drusilla, Ran… This is all my fault.
His voice was barely audible and Buffy strained to hear him.
Buffy: Stop saying that.
Angel: Why not, it's true.
Buffy: We'll get through this. We always have before.
Angel: This time it's different.
His eyes stayed starring blankly into the night. She stepped up behind him and pressed her body against his, slipping her arms underneath his, and embracing his chest. They had isolated themselves from the others.
Pike was looking no less than annoyed and jealous at the outward display of affection.
Pike: Am I the only one who doesn't now what's going on here?
Giles: Who are you?
Pike: Pike. I'm guessing you're her watcher; I knew Merrick. You could say I was Buffy's sidekick in LA. I helped her, well tried to help her, when she defeated Lothos. Now, could someone explain?
The group retreated to other side of the room in order to give Buffy and Angel a chance to adjust to their present situation and to give themselves a chance to explain to Pike about the happens and finding of Buffy's adventures in Sunnydale. During this time a figure descended down the stairs.
Joyce Summers: Buffy, what is going on here?
Buffy: Mom!
She immediately removed her arms from around Angel's body.
Joyce: Yes, 'mom'.
Buffy: You weren't supposed to be home until tomorrow.
Joyce: Well, it's a good thing I got home early.
Xander: This can't be a good thing.
Willow: Xander…
She dug her elbow into Xander's rib cage as Mrs. Summers became aware of the overwhelmingly large number of people in her home.
Joyce: What is everyone doing here, Mr. Giles, Ms. Calendar, PIKE? Could someone please tell me what's going on?
Everyone was silent and still, that is until Angel spoke.
Angel: She'll be in danger. They know about her. You have to tell her.
He was looking straight into Buffy's eyes. Then she turned to Giles.
Giles: I agree.
The group spent the next two hours trying to explain Buffy's birthright, lives, and worlds to a very skeptical Mrs. Summers.
Joyce: Do you really expect me to believe that there are real vampires. That my daughter has been chosen to destroy them, that she died, that she was revived and killed a 'Master'. That she had assassins sent after her because she was trying to save her 241-year-old vampire boyfriend with a soul. And that there are over a hundred vampires out side waiting to kill her, oh, and that I have been totally oblivious to all of this. Do you seriously expect me to believe this?
Giles: Well, um… yes.
Buffy: Mom, I know it's hard to swallow, but it is the truth.
Joyce: I don't believe this, I can't believe this.
For a moment there was silence.
Buffy: Angel, would you show her.
Angel: Buffy…
She laced her fingers through his.
Buffy: Please.
Everyone's eyes were fixed on Angel's face as it transformed to that of a demon's and then back again. At this point Mrs. Summers was shaking uncontrollably and tears were sliding down her cheeks. Angel just stood there while Buffy tried to comfort her mother. He knew the mother of the woman he loved, was horrified by him. That because of what he used to be, Buffy and everyone she loved might die. He couldn't stand it.
Angel: I better go.
Buffy: What?
Angel: It's almost sunrise.
Buffy: You have two hours, besides you can't go home, they're gonna be waiting for you.
Giles: She's right, they'll use you to get to her.
Buffy: You'll stay here and that's final.
Angel: I won't.
Buffy: It's not like you haven't done it before.
Joyce: WHAT?
Buffy: Not like that Mom.
After sunrise Willow and Xander made their ways home and pretended to be sick. They got out of school, waited for their parents to leave, tried to manage a few hours sleep, and then headed back to Buffy's. Pike and Angel didn't have parents to worry about, neither did both the teachers, and Buffy's mom covered for Buffy and Pike at school, then surprisingly went off to work.
Buffy: I'm worried about her.
Angel: Just give her time. It's a lot to take in.
Buffy: I know.
The group moved to the basement in order to form a plan with Angel.
Willow: What are we going to do?
Giles: Drusilla, Spike, and Ran are known as some of the most vicious vampires that exist to day. They have incredible followings and it pains me greatly to say this… I don't know how to stop them.
Jenny: Hasn't any other slayer faced this many vampires before?
Giles: If one has, no one has lived to tell of it.
A chill ran down Buffy's spine and she began to shiver. Despite the coolness of Angel's touch, it seemed to warm her. They were both so terrified and everyone knew it. Their plan seemed hopeless, yet it was all they could do… go in when defenses were down and fight for their lives, or existence in Angel's case.
Spike: Everything is going perfectly princess.
Drusilla: Miss Edith will be pleased.
