The moon was full and the night was cold as she made her way down the dark alley. Her stomach began to ache terribly and she knew one was near. The growl from behind her made her tremble, but the second growl made her scream. She turned around and kicked at the vampire. Then she staked the other one from behind. As the first one got up, she tried to lung at him, but his strength pushed her against the brick wall. He pinned her to it and put out his fangs. Then Buffy heard the second growl that made her even more frightened. She screamed. The second unknown vampire attacked the other one and staked him. Buffy fainted when the unknown vampire came over to her. She woke up in her room, in her bed. She was still in her same clothes but the blankets were over her. She remembered fainting at the coming of the unknown vamp, but the rest was all blank. When she looked around her room she almost had a heart attack when she saw the dark figure in the corner of her room. When he stepped out she smiled at him. He smiled back.
“I guess my guardian Angel strikes again.”, she said laughily.
“Yeah. Are you ok?”, Angel asked, concerned.
“Yeah. No cuts, bruises, or abrasions. But I kind of have a bump.”, she said, referring to her head.
He walked over to her and sat on the bed. He stroked her head and she shivered. Angel shivered too, but she hadn’t noticed it. He examined the rest of her body with his eyes, not trusting himself. He growled when he saw the blood on her shirt. It was definitely her blood. He knew what it smelled like. He touched her chest, looking around for the bite mark. He found it. Very close to her right shoulder blade. She hadn’t been drained at all, just bitten. He put his finger on the bite and the blood was on his finger.
“Lick it.”, Buffy said, “I don’t care. I know you want to.”
He looked into her eyes and saw that she was serious, but terrified. He put the blood up to his lips but cleaned it off with a Kleenex instead. He looked at her and saw that she was smiling. He put his hand on her face. It was so soft. He wanted to kiss her so badly. But he had to pull his hand away.
“Why do you do this Angel?”, she asked, her voice cracking.
He looked at her and saw that her face was already covered in tears in the seconds that passed.
“Because if I give into my feelings, things could happen. Bad things. I could hurt you. I don’t ever want to hurt you Buffy. Not for anything in the world.”, Angel pleaded.
“But you already are! When you pull away if I try to kiss you, when you don’t answer my questions, and how you avoid me for weeks at a time, then you just show up and expect me to welcome you with open arms? I can’t do this anymore.”, Buffy cried.
“Fine. It’s over. I would come to see you again. Ever. If that’s what you want.”, Angel said, hurting.
Buffy didn’t want that. But it was just easier to say things that hurt him, then to say things she knew he would say back.. I love you Angel., she thought as he climbed out of her window, and disappeared into the dark night.
The next morning, Buffy walked through the halls of Sunnydale High with a depressed look on her face. She didn’t even smile when Willow and Xander walked over to her.
“Buffy? Are you ok?”, Willow asked, concerned.
Buffy shook her head and her face was covered in tears. Willow and Xander both knew what was wrong. But they didn’t know what had happened until Buffy began to explain her and Angel’s confrontation last night. When she finished, she was sobbing so loud that Willow had to hug her tighter. The group got into the library and Buffy ran to Giles. He looked up at Willow and Xander who both mouthed the word: Angel.
“So what are you gonna do now?”, Willow asked.
“I don’t know. I don’t want to lose him. Not him.”, Buffy cried, her tears were beginning to flow again.
“I’ll take you to his loft.”, Xander replied suddenly.
Buffy looked up at him and smiled.
“Thank You Xander. I know how much this is hurting you.”, Buffy said.
He just looked at her and nodded.
That night, Willow, Xander, and Buffy went to Angel’s loft. Buffy had gotten all dressed up, but Xander and Willow just stayed in their same clothes since they would leave once Buffy saw where the loft was. The finally got to the door , Willow and Xander left. Willow mouthed the words Good Luck before they left down the street. Buffy knocked on the door. Angel was surprised when he saw Buffy at his door. But Buffy was more surprised when she saw Cordelia sitting on Angel’s bed staring at her.
“What’s this?”, Buffy asked them angrily.
“A date.”, Angel answered her coldly, “You said that we both should get on with our lives, so I did. You never wanted to see me again, so why are you here?”
“I was going to tell you that I had a change of heart, but I guess I should change my mind again and forget I ever met you.”, Buffy said.
“Well, that’s what you wanted.”, Angel said growling.
She turned and looked into his eyes. They were covered in tears and so were hers. She just ran away sobbing into the night. Angel closed his door and looked at Cordelia. She was pretty. But she wasn’t Buffy. He wanted her to go but maybe he could use her to make Buffy jealous just as Buffy had used Xander. He smiled and walked over to her. He pulled her towards him and passionately kissed her. With his tongue. That would definitely satisfy Buffy for tomorrow at school. Buffy had ran to Xander’s house and fell onto the ground, sobbing. When he and Willow came out, Willow hugged her and they led her into the house.
“Cordelia? Are you sure? I mean Cordelia isn’t Angel’s type.”, Xander said.
“It was her. I could never mistake her face. He had her sitting on his bed.”, Buffy cried.
“Buffy you did tell him to never see you again. He is getting on with his life.”, Willow explained.
Buffy looked at Willow. She knew she was right. But why did he have to pick
Cordelia? He could have the pick of all the women in Sunnydale. He wanted to
make Buffy jealous. It was working. Buffy couldn’t stop thinking of them.
Were they kissing? What were they doing?
But they weren’t kissing. Cordelia had gone home and she was in her room,
basking in all the glory that is Angel. True, he was a creature of the night,
but he sure was a great kisser. She wanted to rub it in somebody’s face. She
smiled when she knew she had to tell Buffy. Buffy had lost him to her. Isn’t
life grand?, she thought happily.
The next day Cordelia walked down the hall looking for Buffy. She had her
friends come with her so she could let Buffy overhear her whole explanation.
“So, he sat me on his bed and we kissed. French kissed. Can you believe it? He is so gorgeous. I can’t believe I have Angel.”, Cordelia said.
Buffy had heard everything and she was crying. She ran down the hall, sobbing. When she got to the library, she saw Giles. He was busy with his nose in a book. She ran over to him, and hid her face in his arms. He held her, not knowing what was wrong.
Willow and Xander came in about an hour later. Buffy was asleep in a chair. They walked over to her and looked at Giles. He just looked at them, puzzled.
“She told us she caught Angel and Cordelia together at his loft. She spent the whole night crying at my house.”, Willow explained.
Then Giles woke up a sleeping Buffy. She looked at all of her friends and smiled. They both hugged her. Buffy’s tears came about 5 seconds later, when she was face to face with Cordelia. “Are you ok Buffy?”, Cordelia asked, worried.
“I’m fine Cordelia.”, Buffy said, sniffling.
Buffy walked out of the library and went home sick. Her mom was working late hours so she just sat on the couch, sobbing. She had all the lights off, and she was wearing his leather jacket. She was curled up in a ball. She screamed when she felt the hand touch her head. It was him. She knew, even in the dark. He was just looking at her and he had a very solemn look on his face.
“I’m sorry. I hate to see you like this.”, Angel said.
“Then why did you kiss Cordelia?”, Buffy yelled.
“I just wanted to make you jealous. It worked. But I hated to hurt you like this. I really hate to see you cry.”, Angel wiped her tears with his fingers.
She recoiled at his touch. He looked in her eyes and they weren’t inviting. She definitely was angry. But suddenly he pulled her close and kissed her with his tongue but it was definitely better than his kiss with Cordelia. Buffy kept trying to pull away but, he pulled her tighter to him. When she finally got loose, she started to cry again.
“I don’t think it will be that easy to forgive what you did. A thing like that isn’t easily forgiven.”, Buffy cried.
He looked into her tear-filled eyes and shook his head. Then he walked away to leave, then realized it was still sun up. He turned back to a reluctant Buffy who smiled.
“I guess I don’t want you to turn to dust. You can stay here until sundown.”, she said coldly.
“Thanks.”, Angel said.
He sat down and she fell into his arms. She was still crying, but not as hard as before he had shown himself. He just wanted everything to go back to normal, to before he had to wait to leave someone’s home until sundown. But if it all did, he wouldn’t have her. The most important thing in his life. The only woman who truly loved him for the vampire he was. The woman who now despised him because of how he had hurted her. She looked into his eyes and started to sob hysterically again. He couldn’t calm her down. She finally slowed down her tears and looked at him again.
“I think that you should go. It’s dark now, so I really can’t have you here.”, Buffy cried.
He looked into her tear filled eyes, and understood.
“I hate to be away from you, but I can’t be this close to you when you hurt me so much. Good bye.”, Buffy said.
Angel went to the door and opened it. Then he turned to look back at her, and she just turned away. He felt like dying when she turned away. Then he closed the door, and could hear Buffy’s loud sobs as he walked down the block.
Buffy woke up on the couch, in darkness. She was very groggy, and disoriented. Her mom was in the kitchen. She looked up at Buffy stumbling around and laughed.
“Tough day?”, Buffy’s mom joked.
“Yeah. Tough life.”, Buffy said coldly and sat down next to her at the table.
Joyce looked into her daughter’s eyes. They were bright red with tears. She
held Buffy tight, and Buffy sobbed. What was happening to her baby?, she
thought, as Buffy’s sobs got louder.
The next morning, Buffy woke up in an unfamiliar room. But she smiled when
she realized where she was. She got up and looked around. Her mom was sitting
in a green lazy boy, sound asleep. Buffy got up and walked to her room.
She got dressed and looked at the clock: 8:24 A.M. Only an hour before
school. She ran down the stairs faster than she had ever ran before. She had
to see him. He had to know that she still loved him.
When she got to Angel’s loft, he opened the door and hissed at the bright
sun. He told her to come in, and she did. She sat down on his bed, admiring
the view of “her” Angel with only a shirt and boxers on. When he realized she
was ogling him, he smiled.
“Enjoy the view?”, he asked, smiling.
“On yeah.”, Buffy said, smiling back at him.
She walked over to him, and looked into his dark brown eyes. He knew she still loved him, and now she had forgiven his hurtful mistake he had made. He pulled her close to him and kissed her. He held her tightly in his arms, not letting her ever get away from him again. They both tried to hold onto their kiss, but Buffy had to finally breathe.
“Wow.”, was all she said as they pulled apart.
“Wow indeed.”, Angel said, smiling.
Then they went over to Angel’s bed and lied down next to each other. This was morning. Her most favorite morning she had ever had. She spent the entire day in Angel’s loft. She didn’t want to be away from him, and he didn’t want her to leave. She knew that she would have to leave soon. When nightfall came, they didn’t move from the same spot on Angel’s bed. Buffy had fallen asleep from all her crying, and Angel couldn’t sleep knowing she would be in his arms. So they stayed like this, for hours. But it turned 11:30 P.M. Buffy knew that she had to go home. Her mom would be worried. She pulled out of Angel’s arms and looked into his eyes. They were still full of tears. But they were even more loving than hers were to him. She kissed him lightly, and his smile got wider. Then she stayed silent as she walked out of the apartment, looked back at him, and held back her tears. When the door closed, she collapsed against the door, and started sobbing. She couldn’t handle having to live like this. He was only on the other side of that door, and she felt like he was a million miles away. But, the door opened, and he was standing in the doorway. He held out his hand, and pulled her up off the ground. Then they pulled into each other for a deep, sensual kiss. They were together. That’s all that mattered to them.
