Just One Dance

" How long?" Willow asked.

" Two weeks, two weeks since I last saw him." Buffy moaned. She shook her head.

" I love him more than anything in the world. If I could, all I want is just one dance. Just one. To feel his arms around me and hold me all night." Buffy closed her eyes to remember the feeling.

" Buffy? What happened that night, besides..well you know." Willow asked shyly.

" After, well, he decided to leave. I wanted him to stay, but he said he couldn’t handle it. Then we got into a fight. A big one. And then I went home. I haven’t seen him since." Buffy explained.

" Yo! Buffy! Ya wanna dance?" Xander yelled over the music.

" I dunno."

" Come on." he coaxed.

" Well..okay." she walked with him out to the dance floor. It turned out to be a slow song.

" Do you still wanna dance?" Xander whispered into her ear. Buffy shrugged, then nodded. Xander slowly wrapped his arms around her. Buffy put her head on his shoulder. She soon caught the eye of her best friend. She mouthed " Sorry". Willow smiled, then shrugged. When the dance was over Buffy walked back to the table.

" Sorry. I wouldn’t have gone if I’d known it would be a slow song." She apologized.

" It’s okay." Willow said. Buffy then spotted someone lurking in a dark corner. Buffy nudged Willow and nodded toward the corner.

" It’s him. I can sense him." Buffy smiled. Angel submerged from the corner. ‘ I can play that game too Buffy.’He started over to her.

" He’s coming. Hey where hav-." Buffy called to him, but he just kept walking. He stopped in front of Megan, a girl she knew from English. They walked out to the dance floor and she slithered around him.

" Angel?" Buffy whispered. She turned and weaved her way through the crowd, then ran out the door.

" Buffy! Wait!" Willow yelled after her, but she was already gone. Angel looked at her and Willow gave him a look of daggers, he just put his head down. Willow ran out the door looking for her friend, she soon found her. She was beating a vampire into a bloody pulp. She shoved a stake into its chest.

" Buffy!" She called and ran over to her, Buffy fell into her arms.

" I thought he loved me. I just wanted one dance." Buffy managed to get out between sobs.

" Sshh. Don’t worry about him, I’ll take care of it." Willow soothed. She helped her to her feet and walked her to her house.

" You want me to stay?" Willow asked. Buffy shook her head.

" You go home, I’ll see you tomorrow. Be careful, kay?" Buffy said. Willow nodded and turned away. ‘ I can’t believe him! Why would he do such a thing to her! I’ll have a word with him.’ Willow thought as she got to her house.

Xander scanned the room for his friends. They were gone. Then he saw Angel dancing with some girl. ‘ Oh, no! Buffy saw and ran out. What a moron!’ Xander thought and left the club.

Buffy slowly climbed the stairs to her room, luckily her mom was at some gallery opening. ‘ Why would he do this to me? I didn’t do anything to him. I thought he really did love me.’ Buffy thought to herself and got into bed.

( the next day)

Willow made her way through the school and opened the door to the library. Giles and Xander didn’t even look up.

" Hey. Where’s Buffy?" Willow asked.

" I should ask you the same question." Giles replied.

" She said she would be here today." Willow said and sat down. Willow looked at Xander, they both knew why she wasn’t here.

" Xander, come on, we gotta get to class." Xander nodded and followed his friend.

Buffy lay in her bed not moving. She hadn’t eaten or slept. She just kept thinking why he would do that. She was so spaced out she didn’t see Willow or Xander standing at her door.

" Buffy?" Willow said gently. Buffy looked toward her friends. Her eyes were bloodshot, her hair a mess, and she was still in her PJ’s.

" Oh, Buffy!" Willow exclaimed and rushed to her side, "Have you eaten?" Buffy shook her head.

" Xander go down stairs and make her some soup." Willow instructed, " I’ll call my mom and tell her I’m staying over tonight." Buffy just nodded. Willow shut the door.

" I’ll get you dressed. And then we’ll go outside, kay?" Willow asked.

" I don’t wanna go outside." Buffy mummered. Willow nodded.

" Fine then."

( later that night)

Buffy hadn’t touched her soup or anything else her friends brought her.

" Buffy, I’m gonna go out for a little while. I’ll be back soon, alright?" Buffy nodded and closed her eyes. Willow went out the door. ‘ I’ll have a word with Angel.’ she said to herself. Willow found the building where Angel lived and walked down the stairs. Then she banged her fist on the door until she heard someone coming. The door opened.

" Willow? What are you doing here?" Angel asked confused. Willow didn’t wait to be invited in, she walked past him.

She turned on her heel to face him.

" You know excatly what’s going on! Because of you Buffy hasn’t slept or eaten! How could you do that to her? You mean the world to her and you give your thanks by dancing with some tramp? I can’t believe you! I thought you were better than this! But, I along with Buffy, thought wrong! What have you got to say for your self?" She yelled at him.

" I..I don’t know what to say. I thought she was trying ot make me jealous by dancing with Xander." he tried to explain. Willow let out a scornful laugh.

" You thought Buffy was trying to make you jealous? That’s stupid! Xander asked her to dance because she was sad that you weren’t there to ask her to dance. She said all she wanted was to have one dance with you. Just one. And then you blow it by dancing with some other girl? Man, and I thought Xander made some dumb mistakes. If I were you than I would go to her house and talk to her, pronto." With that she turned and stalked out the door. ‘ She’s right! I better go.’ He ran out the door.

Buffy saw a shadow out side her window and didn’t even get up to see. But she knew who it was. Angel. He climbd in her window and stood staring at her.

" Buffy I’m so sorry. I never meant to hurt you this way, I thought you were trying to make me jealous." Angel said looking down.

" Well, you thought wrong. It hurt me that you danced with that girl, I just wanted to dance with you." she said. Angel held out his hand.

" Will you dance with me?" he asked. Buffy nodded. He scooped her up into his arms and they dance. They dance for hours.

" Buffy, I love you." he looked down she was asleep. He set her gently on her bed, then turned to go.

" I love you, too." she whispered only loud enough for him to hear. He smiled and sat down in her chair to watch her for the rest of the night.
