Part 1
5 miles out of
Nice, France
Music blasting from her car stereo, Buffy Summers sped down the highway. Her mind was on far more important things than a ticket, though. But before her mind could wander even farther off, her cell phone rang, snapping her into reality.
"Hello?" she asked as reached to turn off the radio. "Giles, hi!"
On the other end of the line, her watcher was quickly typing on a new fangled machine that his wife called a computer. "Buffy. Jenny and I have found some very useful information! Where are you?"
"I'm driving along the coast. 'Bout 5 miles out of Nice." Buffy said, waiting for a reply of what information he had. "Well what's the info, Giles?" She asked after a long pause.
"Oh, what? Sorry, I'm just trying to figure out what this black screen on my computer means."
"Giles," she said slowly, "it means that you turned off your computer accidentally. Duh."
"Don't even think about rolling your eyes! Otherwise, I won't tell you the news."
"Are you going to tell me the news anyway, or wait until I'm back in Sunnydale?" She asked, becoming impatient.
"Ha ha, very witty."
"Giles, I may have the rest of eternity to wait for you to answer, but you, however, don't. Now tell me the information that you have found, or I will have Kendra personally strangle you with the telephone cord!"
"Alright, alright, no need to become violent. Jenny has located an exact address."
"Really? Great!"
"Now do you have a pen and paper?"
***********************************
Buffy was now beyond speeding. {God} she thought, {I'll get to see Angel! After all of this time! And Willow!}
She tried to picture the two of them, but it had been too long. Three years ago, they left. Willow had turned into part vampire, part human, and Angel took her away to Europe to find a cure. They never intended to come back, Buffy found, because Willow had even faked her own death. Her thoughts wandered back to Angel, her only true love.
{Will he recognize me? Oh, wait, I'm immortal. Duh.} She remembered her rendezvous with Ethan, Giles's long-time enemy. How he had cast a spell to make her immortal. Then another thought struck her. {What if Angel found a way to become human? Now that would really screw things up! Or what if Willow fell in love with Angel or Angel fell in love with Willow? Uh-oh, I'm starting to panic. I'd better try not to think. There's my turn}
As she turned on to the off-ramp, she glanced down at the directions. {Turn right three lights down, then head straight for about 1 hour. Sounds easy.} She thought.
*************************
"Hey Angel?" Willow asked, looking out the third story window.
"Yeah?" He replied, walking towards her.
"Do you know whose headlights those are?" she pointed to two light rays, slowly approaching the castle.
"No, no one ever comes down this road. Probably just some lost tourist"
***********************
Buffy looked at the sky, surprised at how dark it was. {It's only 6 o'clock. It's as dark as midnight!} She thought.
Just then, in the distance, she saw lights. {That must be the place.} As she drew nearer, she saw just how big it was. It looked more like a middle ages castle than what Giles had called a mansion, but it was the only building for miles.
"Here goes nothing." She said to herself as she pulled up onto the circular driveway.
*********************
"Angel, look! That car is pulling onto our driveway!" Willow was getting worried. What if it was an enemy of the gypsies?
"Like I said, probably just some tourist looking for directions. I'd better go downstairs and get rid of them"
Angel went down the two marble staircases, leaving Willow to her thoughts.
********************
{What if I have the wrong address? I'll look like an idiot who can't speak French! Thank God for dictionaries, but still!}
Buffy approached the door, which had a huge brass knocker on it. She lifted it up and let if fall.
*******************
Angel sighed, which he could now do, and silently disdained tourists. {Why did tourists always stop here for directions? How annoying.}
Jaque, the butler, had emerged from the kitchen and had already opened the door. He politely asked, in French, if he could help whoever was there. Then, a voice that Angel thought that he wouldn't hear again in a thousand years spoke.
She asked Jaque if he spoke English, and he replied no. Angel was at the door in a flash and found himself staring into beautiful eyes of his beloved.
"You guys couldn't go away to a country where they speak English?" She asked, smiling.
"Buffy." Angel said, sweeping her up into his arms. "Oh my God, it's been…"
"Three years." She finished for him. Then they just stood there silently, holding each other and not wanting to let go.
When Willow came down, though, they had to part so Buffy could give Willow a hug, too.
Willow was just as surprised as Angel, "Buffy? Is it really you? It's been three years! Why did you come here? Did Giles spill? I'm supposed to be dead! You found the book in Angel's apartment? Oh my God! I can't believe…"
"Slow down, Willow, before you start to hyperventilate." Buffy said, amused at all of the questions Willow had.
"Come on, we can go into the library." Angel took Buffy's hand and led her to two double doors. He opened them, and they went inside.
Part 2
Willow and Angel's
Mansion, Yamassee,
150 miles out of Nice,
France
"Buffy, you don't look any older than when we left." Willow commented, finally out of her questioning state.
They were sitting in the large library, with Angel and Buffy on the French style couch, and Willow in a wooden desk chair.
"Well, that's a long story. Giles's old enemy from collage, Ethan, cast some spell on me. Now I'm immortal. But enough about me. What happened to you guys?"
"IMMORTAL?!?!" Angel and Willow asked together.
"Yeah, but I've gotten used to it. Giles is still trying to find a cure, but I really don't care either way. So what have you guys been up to?"
"Buffy, being immortal is really not that much fun." Willow said.
"It's no terrific to watch all of your close friends grow old and die." Angel put in.
"OKAY!! Enough said! I get the point. I am dying to hear about your adventures! TELL ME!!"
"Okay. But this is a long story. Are you sure you want to hear it?" Angel asked.
"For the final time, YES!"
"Okay, then. We traveled all over Europe, hoping to find where the gypsy clan was. We found out from a library in Turkey that they were in Nice somewhere, so we took a plane down to the coast. We found them in an old warehouse about 20 miles out. We told them who we were, and they agreed to help. They recognized me, and I introduced them to Willow.
The elders cast a spell on Willow, to give her back her humanity. They also cast a spell on me, but I'm not human. I guess I'm like you, Buffy. I'm immortal, but that's all.
Willow and I moved here temporarily, while I was trying to decide if I would be welcome back in Sunnyvale, or if I should move back to Ireland."
"I was trying to decide if I should go back to Boston, where I was born, or if I should go up and live in Paris."
"That took three years?" Buffy asked sarcastically. "And that wasn't a long story. But now that you've accomplished what you want, I was kind of hoping for some company on my flight back to LA." Buffy knew that her proposal was just a shot in the dark, but she was ready to do anything that it took to get them back to Sunnyvale.
"Buffy," Willow said, "Why would I be welcome back home? I faked my own death, wrote Xander a letter, in which I said I loved him, and made Giles lie to you. I couldn't go home to my parents. What would they think? What would everyone think? It just doesn't make sense."
"Willow," Buffy had dreaded telling her the news. "Your parents are dead." She told the girl quietly. "Your mother died in a car crash just a month after you died, I mean left. Your father jumped off the docks the night after. I'm so sorry."
"My parents are dead?" Willow cried. She tried to say something else, but was choked by sobs. After about five minutes later, she managed to say something. "I-I'm going to b-bed. Goodnight." She was barely audible. She ran out the heavy double doors to the main hall.
"Her parents died?" Angel asked, after Willow had gone upstairs. "How terrible. The first couple of weeks we were away, all she could talk about was her parents."
"It was terrible how they both died so close to when she left. Willow was so morose"
"She was."
After a moment of silence, Buffy spoke again. "Ya know, I never got a goodbye kiss."
"I'm sorry about that. I wanted to, but I couldn't bring myself to tell you good-bye." After a long pause, Angel asked, "Will a hello kiss do?"
"Yeah." She said as Angel leaned forward and kissed her passionately.
They kissed for all of 10 minutes before Angel muttered in her ear, "Let's go upstairs."
"Sounds good." Buffy whispered back.
******************************
"We really should've done that before." Angel said, as he watched the beautiful girl in his arms begin to wake up.
"Mm-hmm." Was her only answer, but he could see her smiling.
A few minutes later she said, "We really should go downstairs and make sure Willow is okay."
"I guess your right."
******************************
"I hear voices downstairs. Do you know who it is?" Buffy questioned as she and Angel walked down the ornate marble staircase.
"Oh, I forgot. That must be Michael, Willow's boyfriend." Angel replied.
"WILLOW HAS A BOYFRIEND?!?!" Buffy exclaimed, her eyes wide with amazement.
"Uh-huh. He's the son of one of the elders that changed her back."
"Oh my god! Is he nice?"
"Yeah, you'd like him. Come on" He said as he lead her down a long hallway into what looked like the breakfast room. Sitting at the table was Willow, who was looking considerably better, and across from her was a tall and handsome man.
Willow looked up. "'Morning Buffy, 'morning Angel." She said, obviously cheered up.
"'Morning Will." Buffy said.
"'Morning Willow, hi Michael." Angel said.
"Hey Angel. And who's this beautiful girl?" Michael asked as he stood up and approached Buffy. He had no French accent.
"Lay off, man. This is my girlfriend, Buffy" Angel said.
"Hi, I'm Michael." He said to Buffy.
"Hi," Buffy said briefly, then turned to Angel, "I sleep with you once, and you expect me to be your girlfriend?" She asked, putting a pouty look on her face.
"Hey, I'm an old fashioned guy." Was the only reply she got.
"Oh, is this the girl from Sunnydale that I keep hearing about?" Michael asked, interrupting.
"This is her." Angel said, grateful for a way out of the other conversation.
"Breakfast is served," Came a voice from a small doorway in the corner of the room. It was Jaque, the butler. "If everyone would take their seats."
Michael sat down next to Willow, Buffy sat across from Willow, and Angel sat across from Michael at the circular table. Then, two other girls, whom Buffy assumed to be maids, came out to serve breakfast, French toast and bacon with fresh squeezed orange juice. Willow muttered a word of thanks, and the three servants left the room.
"So what are we gonna do today, guys?" Willow asked.
"I donno. Buffy, what do you want to do?" Angel asked.
"Hey, you guys live here." She replied.
"I don't know. We can always just drive around the countryside or visit gypsies or something like that." Michael suggested.
"Buffy, why don't you and I drive up to Nice, do a lot of shopping, and catch up on old gossip?" Willow asked.
"That sounds great, Willow! As long as you guys don't mind…" Buffy agreed.
"We'll go along!" Said Michael.
"Um… Michael, they are going shopping. If you went along, guess who will be paying." Angel interjected.
"Oh, yeah. Nevermind! You guys go, and we'll stay here."
"You're learning well."
"Okay! But I have to be back in Sunnydale by Monday, okay, Wil?" Buffy asked.
"Yeah, that's great. Oh, speaking of Sunnydale, I wanted to ask you how Xander is." Willow said, trying to avoid making a decision. {To go back, or to not go back? That is the question.} She thought sarcastically.
"Well, physically, Xander's fine, just mentally…"
"Xander's always been mental."
"So much that he would start dating Cordy?"
"You're kidding." Willow said, starting to laugh.
"Nope!" Buffy said, joining in. "For a year and a half, now."
"Oh my gosh! And how are Giles and Ms. Calendar?"
"Well, it's Giles and Mrs. Giles now. They got married last summer. When I left, they were celebrating their one-year anniversary."
"You're kidding." This time it was Angel in disbelief.
"No! And thanks to Jenny, Giles no longer has the personality of a chair."
"Okay, I am feeling very left out of this conversation." Michael complained. "I have no idea who you are talking about!"
"Well if you come back with us to Sunnydale, you'll know." Willow said, surprised at the words that just came out of her mouth. "Was that out loud?"
"Yep." Everyone said, simultaneously.
"Willow, your coming back?" Buffy asked.
"Well, I guess I am. But I can't guarantee I'll stay."
"Works for me. Angel, are you coming?" Buffy asked, overjoyed that Willow was going back with her.
"I thought we worked that out last night." He said, kissing her on the cheek.
"Oh yeah, that." Buffy said, smiling.

"Why don't we skip the châteaux thing? It's supposed to rain tomorrow, and I mean, you guys have to pack and everything." Buffy asked, hoping to get out of touring France and all.
"We aren't moving, Buffy. We're going to see if we want to live back in Sunnyvale." Willow pointed out.
"Who's we?" Angel asked. "I 'm moving back."
"Ok, fine. I."
"What about me?" Michael complained.
"Men!!" Willow sighed, obviously frustrated.
"Well, first tell me where you are going."
"I'm going to Sunnydale."
"Then you're moving back to California?"
"No."
"Okay. Then you're going just to visit friends, but you're coming back?"
"No! I'll decide what to do when I get there. Now, are you coming with me?"
"I don't know yet. Why did you just tell me this? It would be nice to have a fair warning before you expect me to make a major decision like that." Michael said with a clueless expression on his face.
"Because Buffy just came."
"I think we'll just leave you two alone now." Buffy said, gesturing for Angel to go with her out in the hall.
"Great idea." Angel said, agreeing with her.
Willow and Michael kept on with their "argument", barely noticing that their companions had left the room.
"Are they always like that?" Buffy asked, once she and Angel were out of earshot.
"Not like that, but they do seem argue a lot."
"Well then, at least this isn't all my fault."
"What makes you think it's your fault?" Angel asked, trying to reassure her.
"Oh, come on! All of the sudden, after three years, I just show up at your door. Go: 'hi guys! It's me, Buffy. Remember? Vampire Slayer and all? So, how are you? Why don't you come back to Sunnydale? And I'll be nice and give you one day to decide.'" And slipping back to her normal tone of voice, she added, "I'm not being fair to you guys."
"Not being fair? Who left three years ago without even a goodbye? I'd say we're even."
"I guess so. So what are you gonna do with this wonderful castle when you go back to Sunnydale?" She asked, changing the subject so they didn't have to get in an argument like Willow and Michael had.
"Keep it as a summer home, I guess. Or, if Willow decides not to live in Sunnydale, she can have it."
"That sounds good. So show me around this place. If you don't, I'll probably end up getting lost!"
"Okay. I'll start with the ballroom. It's over here." He said, leading her down another long corridor.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"Willow, I really think you should move back to Sunnydale. Ya know, with all of your friends." It was the third time Michael had tried, but it didn't look like it was going to work.
"Will you come with me on the trip?"
"Of course I'll come with you. I've been waiting my whole life to meet someone like you. I couldn't loose you now."
Willow smiled. "But I just can't face everyone back home. I mean, what would they think of me? 'Oh, there's the girl who ran away from us three years ago, What's-her-name.'"
"Oh come on. It is a statistical impossibility to stay mad at you for more than 10 minutes. Believe me, I've tried. It didn't work."
Willow laughed. "Okay, I'm flying back. I'll probably stay, but I donno. If I do stay, will you too?"
"Of course." Michael said as he leaned over to kiss her.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"My feet hurt now." Buffy complained, as she sat on the comfortable and modern couch on the third floor parlor.
"No wonder. I told you the house was huge." Angel said as Buffy massaged her feet.
"So, you guys have vampires up here?" She asked.
"No vampires, but there are sorcerers and such here. They practice black magic and go against the gypsy clans. But they haven't caused much trouble."
"Well, that's good." She opened her mouth to say more, but was cut off by a scream from downstairs.
"What the hell?" Buffy asked as she and Angel bolted down the stairs. Once they got to the bottom, they could see. All of the furniture was knocked over, and creatures with mutated faces were dispersed around the room. Willow, Michael, the three maids, and Jaque were attempting to fight them off, but they couldn't hold them off for long.
"I thought you said you didn't have vampires here!" Buffy yelled, throwing an exasperated glance in Angel's general direction as they both dived into the miniature war.
"Me too." Angel yelled back as he ducked from a roundhouse kick.
"There are so many of them." Buffy shouted as she staked a vampire in the back.
"Buffy, are there lots of vampires in Sunnydale?" Willow asked, as she pulled an antique rifle off the wall and started to shoot her opposers.
"The usual. Great idea with the gun, Will." Buffy replied, raising her voice so she could be heard.
"Tell me about Sunnydale, Buffy." Michael asked as he punched a vampire against a wall.
"Well…" They continued fighting, interspersing casual conversation every so often. In a matter of minutes, the army of demons had either fled or crumbled dust. "Ashes to ashes," Buffy said to the last vampire, "Dust to dust." And she plunged the stake through its heart.

Just as Giles was about to put his head down on the library table to rest, the phone sounded loudly in his ear, snapping him to attention.
"H-hello?" He asked quietly.
"Found anything yet, Giles?" A female voice on the other end asked.
"Everyone's been looking, but nothing has come up, Buffy. It could just be a planned but un-profecied event."
"Nah, I don't think so. It seemed too well planed. They come when I come, its weird." Buffy said skeptically. "Is Xander awake yet, Giles? Willow really wants to talk to him."
"Yes, he's here. But before I put him on, have you found anything?" Giles asked, slowly awakening himself.
"Nope, nada. It's incredible! Out of all these books, we can't find a single thing! Now hurry up and get Xander before Willow starts to really bug me!" Buffy said, getting impatient with Willow, who was starting to jump up and down at the thought of talking to Xander.
"I'll go get him. Hang on." Giles said, moving away from the phone.
"Xander, Willow is on the line." Giles said, going into his office.
"Willow? What am I gonna say? What will she say? I wonder how she is. I wonder…" Xander kept mumbling, to himself more than the others, until Cordelia, his current girlfriend, picked up the phone and handed it to him.
Xander's hand was shaking as he pulled the receiver to his ear. "Willow?" He asked hopefully.

Cordelia looked on as Xander engrossed himself with the girl who loved him. She wasn't jealous, no, but more happy. She didn't know why she wasn't jealous, or mad, she didn't know why she was happy.
Maybe it was because she didn't like Xander, and wanted someone else to take him. Or maybe she loved him so much she wanted him to be happy. Or maybe it was because Xander was re-uniting with an old friend. Or maybe…
All of the sudden, she was rudely snapped out of her thoughts by someone yelling her name.
"Cordelia!" It was Giles. "I am going to get some sleep. While I am, try and do some more work than you do when I'm awake. This is important! And make sure Xander doesn't stay on the phone too long."
{God, cranky much?} Cordelia thought. {But I can't blame him. We're all tired.}
"Cordelia?" This time it was Xander. "Do you wanna talk to Willow and Buffy?" He asked, smiling.
"Sure." She said, starting to realize how tired she was. She moved to the phone and picked it up as Xander went back to study the book he had in his hand. "Hello?" she asked.
"Hey Cordy." Buffy said.
"Hi Cordelia." Willow said more quietly.
"Hi you guys. It's been a long time Willow! How are you? How is, well, wherever you are? Where are you, anyway? Are you still a vampire?" Cordelia had known that was going to slip, and added a quiet, "sorry".
"No, its okay. No, I'm not a vampire anymore. And, I'm fine. We're in France. It's nice, sunny."
"Good. How's Angel, Buffy?"
"He's just fine. He's gonna…" She was cut off by a loud "Wo-hoo!" that sounded from Cordy's end of the line.
"Oh, sorry guys. I think Xander's found something! I gotta go! Call back!" And Cordelia hung up the phone, heading to see what her boyfriend had read.

"I found it! I found it!" Xander said standing up, almost knocking over his chair.
"What did you find?" Cordelia asked with less enthusiasm.
"Buffy was right, it was a prophecy. It's right here in this book." Xander motioned for her to come see.
She walked over and read aloud over his shoulder, "And fourth shall come, an army worthy of the Slayer, to take her down, wherever she may be. Harsh." She added.
"Really! Go call Giles, will ya?" he asked.
"Sure." Cordelia said, walking back to the phone.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Giles was just starting to fall into a wonder dreamless sleep, when the phone rang. He picked it up with a jerk and yelled into the receiver, "STOP WAKING ME UP!!! I NEED SLEEP, PEOPLE!!!" Then added a more pleasant, "Hello?"
"Sorry, did I wake you, Giles? It's Cordelia. We found the prophecy. Come down here and you can read it yourself. Bye!" She hung up before he could yell at her again, he realized. Jenny was asleep next to him, so he decided not to wake her. He got dressed, left her a note, and headed towards the garage.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Both Xander and Cordelia were huddled over the book, re-reading the text and still not understanding it's full meaning. "So you found the prophecy? Good job. Now let me see it." A voice said from behind them. They turned around and saw Giles walking through the library doors, and stepped away from the book so he could see.
He pulled up a chair and started reading the book, occasionally making comments like, "Hmm…" "Curious indeed" "Oh my! This isn't good."
"What does it mean?"
"Well apparently, the vampires that attacked Buffy were only a very small percentage of the vampire "army" that is trying to destroy her. They will first, probably attack in small bunches, then the units will grow bigger and bigger until Buffy can't fight them all off. We must stop the army from accumulating and converting more vampires." Giles explained, becoming more worried with every word he spoke.
"Well are they all in France, Giles?" Xander asked, hoping that he could avoid the fighting thing.
"It says, 'Wherever she may be', so I'm assuming that they are all over the world, but probably the majority in Sunnydale, following Buffy wherever she goes."
"Has this ever happened to a Slayer before Buffy?" Cordy asked.
"Yes. Like the prophecy says, they destroyed her."

The phone rang, and this time Angel answered it. "Bonjor." He said, in case the call was from someone in France.
"Angel? Remember me, its Cordelia!" A voice on the other end said.
"Oh, hi Cordy. I'll put Buffy on." He rattled off quickly so he wouldn't have to talk to Cordelia, whom he found very annoying. "Buffy!"
She came down the stairs and he indicated that there was someone on the phone for her. She brushed by and picked up the phone. "Hello?"
"Buffy? We found it. We found the prophecy we were looking for. I'll put Giles on to explain." There was a short wait, then the 'click' of someone picking up the receiver.
"Hi Giles! So what is the cause of doom this time?" Buffy asked.
"Oh, just the usual. An army of vampires is coming after you, that's all. Why doesn't anything happen around here?" Giles said, using his newfound personality acquired from Jenny.
"Details, details, Giles!"
"Right." And he went on to explain the details of the foreshadowed events.
"So we have to stop this "army" from getting more vampires? How?" Buffy asked, only slightly worried.
"Well I really don't know right now. There are too many to fight. Why don't you discuss it with Angel, Willow, and what is his name? I'm sure they have some valuable contacts in the gypsy clans, and maybe the gypsies can cast a spell. All of us here will be researching ways."
"Good idea. I'll go talk to them now." Buffy said and hung up.

The general reaction of the group about the prophecy seemed to be "Wow" and right now, they were all brainstorming on how they could keep it from occurring.
"We could… um… take a helicopter and uh… throw buckets of Holy Water on the countryside." Willow suggested timidly. The group shook their heads.
"We could maybe like cast some spell to make them go away." Was an idea urged by Buffy.
Then, "That's it!!!" Michael exclaimed. "As a gypsy, I have certain contacts. I can get a sorcerer, one on our side, to cast some type of spell!"
"What a great idea! Can we do this today, because we can't waist any time?" Buffy asked.
"Yes, we can visit him right now. Its perfect!"
"I'll go get my coat." Willow said.
"Me too." Buffy agreed.
"I'll go call Giles." Angel said.
"And I'll get the car ready." Michael called out as the rest of the group dispersed.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"So how come nobody told me you had a Rolls Royce?" Buffy asked Angel.
"You never asked." Was the only reply.
She hit him lightly on the shoulder. "So how far 'till we get to where this guy lives?"
"About 15 more minutes. The castle is pretty much in the middle of nowhere." Michael said.
"Hey, where do you live?" Buffy asked.
"Oh, I live at the gypsy camp, in a house down the road in the other direction, and at Yamassee. But Willow doesn't mind." Michael answered as he kissed Willow on the forehead.
"Nope!" She said smiling.
"Here we are."
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"So this is the Slayer?" The sorcerer contemplated. "Well I think I know a way to solve your problem. I can cast a spell that will make all vampires, for one week, completely helpless and weak. Why they won't even be able to lift this book." He said, indicating a large dictionary to his right.
"Can you do it now?" Buffy asked.
"Yes. Right this way." He opened a door at the back of his hut-type dwelling and quickly ushered them in.
The room was dark and the walls were painted black. The sorcerer started chanting in some strange language.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"Okay, I just got off the phone with Giles. He thinks that the main armies of vamps are here in France and in California. They are splitting up into teams of two to try and fight the vampires. All who agree we should do the same?" Buffy asked as everyone raised their hands. "Good. Willow, you'll be with Michael, Jaque, you'll be with the maids, and I'll be with Angel. Now to figure out whom has what region.
