The first number is the rating point. Each point equals 980,000 homes. The second figure represents the share, or percentage of television currently turned on that are tuned into that particular show. A 2.0 rating means that 1,960,000 people watched the show that week. The 8 share means 8% of the television sets that were actually turned on at the same time the who aired were tuned to that particular channel. In other words, the rating number is the percent of all televisions in the county, whether they are turned on or off. The share is the percentage of detd that are turned on AND are turned into a specific channel.
