Chapter Four

Candy and Jeremy were walking hand in hand toward the dormitory. It was sunset and tomorrow was their wedding day. It was the first chance they'd had to be alone all week.
      "Candy, we really tried."
"I know, Jeremy. It's all right."
"We did everything we could, but two more days of rain this week really delayed us."
She could see how upset he was. "Jeremy, it's okay. I know you did your best, and that's all that matters." She kissed him on the cheek and squeezed his hand.
"We can stay at the cabin in the meantime. Jason and Joshua offered to stay up at the camp." He was looking at the ground as he said it.
"Oh, they did?" Candy asked demurely. "That was very nice of them." Jeremy looked up at her. "Yes, it was." he said softly.
"I can't believe the day is finally here, Jeremy."
"I know. Seems like we've been waiting so long, and then the last month just went by so fast."
"Well, I guess we've both been pretty busy, what with building the house and making wedding plans. That always makes the time go faster."
"Yea, it does. Especially when you're really looking forward to something." Jeremy said with an uncharacteristically mischievous smile. While he didn't look her straight in the eye as he said it, Candy could see the twinkle in his eye.
"Why, Jeremy Bolt!" she exclaimed, slapping him playfully on the shoulder.
"What? I'm talking about us getting married, that's all! Stop hitting me!" he laughed. She laughed with him. They had come to the dormitory and it was time to say goodnight.
"Well, I guess I should go in. I still have some things to do." Candy said.
"All right, you get some sleep. I'll see you tomorrow."
      "Yes, tomorrow." Candy whispered.
He kissed her gently and they held each other for a moment. As the embrace ended, they gazed into each others eyes. A thousand expressions of love were spoken between them in those few seconds. "Goodnight." they said almost simultaneously. He waited until she was safely inside and started home. He realized that the next time he said goodnight to her, she'd be lying beside him. He smiled at the thought.
As he walked toward the cabin, he thought about the house he and his brothers were building, and how much it meant to Candy to start their life together in their own home. He hated to disappoint her. Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks with a startled look on his face. He was thinking again about the night the Brides arrived in Seattle. Why hadn't he thought of this before? They might not be able to finish it, but they might be able to make it livable. He broke into a run.
Jason and Joshua were both in the cabin. Jason was reading and Joshua was shining his boots. Jeremy burst into the room. "Jason! Josh! I need your help!" As Jeremy began explaining his plan, his brothers started putting on their boots.
