Seattle Township throws a birthday bash for their favorite sea captain, Roland Francis Clancey. Merriment abounds with singing, dancing and drinking. When Clancey becomes too inebriated to enjoy much more of the festivities, he takes the remainder of his birthday cake and heads towards his ship, the Shamus O'Flynn, docked in the harbor. Clancey hears noises from the bushes adjacent to the brides' dormitory and goes to investigate. When no one answers, he steps into the brush to determine the unseen party. He meets an unfriendly grizzly bear. His anguished cry summons the townspeople from the continuing party at Lottie's with the Bolt brothers leading the way. Clancey receives medical attention for his wounds, but it remains evident to Jason Bolt and Aaron Stempel that action must be taken to rid Seattle of the perils of a nearby grizzly. They reason it is the same bear that has given the outskirts of town trouble in the past. They even have an apt name for the animal: Lucifer. The hunt begins with the men of the town splitting into hunting to search for the rogue animal. When Corky and Jeremy hear noise from a cave, Jeremy enters in, shotgun in hand and kills a large grizzly bear. Heralded a hero, and carried in on the shoulders of his brothers and friends, a celebration takes place at Lottie's Saloon in his honor. An army captain whose charge it had been to care for the company mascot—a tame grizzly bear, interrupts the party. Sergeant Todd is incensed at what he sees as a heartless murder; the wrong bear was killed. His anger and hurt is apparent to all, especially Jeremy. When another hunt for Lucifer resumes the next day, Jeremy does not go along. Over the protests of his brothers, he goes in search of Sergeant Todd to right a wrong. Jeremy buys an orphaned grizzly cub in hopes that this will ease the army captain's hurt and amend what was a simple mistake. Jeremy finds Sergeant Todd, but does not receive forgiveness. An "eye for an eye" seems to be Todd's creed, as Jeremy now becomes the hunted. With his ankles shackled in leg irons, Jeremy begins a literal run for his life with Sergeant Todd close behind. Todd has only one objective: kill Jeremy Bolt. The leg irons serve as an equalizer for an army wound Todd suffers. Simply put, they will enable him to track Jeremy with little effort. The hunt is long and arduous. Navigating the hills with his ankles shackled is nearly an impossible task for Jeremy. Taunts from Todd as he continually closes in spur Jeremy on—his only hope is to make it back to Seattle. The two men have a brief confrontation and scuffle as Jeremy fights for his freedom. When Todd ovrpowers him, Jeremy imagines his time has come. Sergeant Todd chooses not to shoot him —not at this point, for he doesn't want Jeremy to "see it coming." He wants his young victim as surprised and afraid as he thinks the mascot bear had been. As the hellish day wears on, Jeremy encounters Lucifer. He turns, trying to sprint back up the hill, but is encumbered by the shackles. As he readies himself for attack and probably death, he hears a rifle shot. When Jeremy looks, he sees that Sergeant Todd brought Lucifer down—the animal is dead. The hunting party with Jason, Joshua and Aaron is close by and comes immediately when they hear the shot. Todd tosses the key to the leg irons to Jeremy and he quickly removes them and throws them aside under a tree, where they are hidden from sight. The men find Sergeant Todd and Jeremy and see that Lucifer is dead. The episode ends with Sergeant Todd being named a hero for saving Jeremy's life. Only he and the youngest Bolt brother really know the truth as to what transpired in the woods.
