(Lucky is leading Elizabeth, who has a hat covering her eyes, to Luke’s where he has a candlelight dinner prepared)
Elizabeth: I know you want this to be a surprise, and I’m sure it’s gonna be worth it, but one more hint of a spider web and this hat is history.
Lucky: Alright, just count to 10 slowly, and then we'll be there, okay?
Elizabeth: How slowly?
Lucky: Just do it.
Elizabeth: Okay,…1…
Lucky: Here, I gotcha.
Elizabeth: 2...3...4...5...
Lucky: Keep going, keep going....
Elizabeth: 6..7...8...
Lucky: 9...Ok, ok! Voila!
(He takes off her hat)
Elizabeth:(looking around) Where is everybody? Generally this place is packed.
Lucky: It’s closed for inventory. I opened it back up.
Elizabeth: Does your father know?
Lucky: I didn’t want to distract him. Look, I got the best table in the house right here.
(They walk over to the table and share a look)
Lucky: For your pleasure madame. A selection from our private stock.
(He brings to glasses of soda out)
Elizabeth: Thank you. Mmm. Good year for carbonation
Lucky: You wanna know what I made for dinner?
Elizabeth:: You cooked?
Lucky: Yeah.
Elizabeth: A whole meal??
(both of them laughing)
Lucky: So?
Elizabeth:: What’re we having?
Lucky: I’ll be right back...Ummm, this is ok with you right? I mean I know I didn’t ask you..
Elizabeth: (smiling) Lucky, there’s no place in the entire world I’d rather be.
Lucky: (smiling) Damn good answer.
(next scene)
(Lucky brings in the food)
Elizabeth: That was quick.
Lucky: Well you now how it is with home-cooked meals. As soon as they're ready, you gotta get them on the table.
Elizabeth:: Ribs and cheese fries? Lucky, you’ve outdone yourself!
Lucky: It was nothing really.
Elizabeth: But it looks so professional. Did you use a recipe?
Lucky: Well, I had one, but I prefer to let the meat tell me what it needs.
Elizabeth: Ah, what a gift! You know, I don’t even deserve to sit at the same table as you. As a matter of fact I’m gonna move to the other side of the room. (getting up to leave)
Lucky: No, no, no....(she sits back down) Ok, I ordered out from that place on 8th street. But I made the cheese fries myself.
Elizabeth: You cut the potatoes and everything?
Lucky: Not everything.
Elizabeth: (smiling) So, what did you do?
Lucky: Melted the cheese, poured it over. It’s not as easy as you think. (smiling) You overcook cheddar you’ve got a big mess on your hands.
Elizabeth: Well, I thnk it looks perfect. So, now, can we eat?
Lucky: Do it.
(Liz takes a few bites and Lucky laughs)
Elizabeth: What’s the matter?
Lucky: You’ve got a little sauce on your mouth. There you go.
Elizabeth: Lucky , these are ribs, you’re supposed to get messy.
Lucky: Remember the first time?
Elizabeth: I know, I know, I could barely pick them up.
Lucky: I shamed you into it then you practically inhaled the whole rack.
Elizabeth: I remember that night just like it was yesterday. Yet, so many things have happened since then.
Lucky: You think you’ve changed?
Elizabeth: Oh yeah.
Lucky: How?
Elizabeth: Well, I’m more careful. I take things more seriously. But when I do have fun, I enjoy myself more than ever. You?
Lucky: I don’t know. I think the biggest change is when I’m around you.
Elizabeth: And what is that?
Lucky: I’m happy.
(they smile at each other)
Elizabeth: You gonna miss not being with your mom and sister on Thanksgiving?
Lucky: A little. Of course Lulu. She’s one of those things you just can’t get enough of. Seeing my grandmother would’ve been great. I just didn’t want to make the trip to North Carolina.
Elizabeth: I know this sounds really selfish, but I’m glad you didn’t. Thanks for dinner Lucky. It kinda got my mind off things.
Lucky: Tom?
Elizabeth: Have you noticed? I didn’t mention him once tonight. Until now.
Lucky: What?
Elizabeth: I need to know why he did it.
Lucky: He did it because he’s sick. Look, whatever you need, whatever you want—I’m on your side.
Elizabeth: I know. I always feel protected when you’re around.
Lucky: I’m glad. You know, it’s strange, but, when I’m with you I feel the same way.
Elizabeth: Protected?
Lucky: I told you it was strange. (he laughs) I don’t mean that you would beat somebody up if they got on my case. (smiling) Although I’ve seen you mad and don’t doubt that you could. It’s just that I grew up on the run. I guess what I’m trying to say is I finally feel safe with you.
Elizabeth: You have no idea how much that means to me. To hear you say that
Lucky: Yeah, maybe I’m on a roll then. I have a confession to make.
Elizabeth: Okay.
Lucky: See..something’s been rolling around in my head and I can’t ignore it anymore. It’s impossible for me to imagine wanting to be with anyone else. I was kinda hoping maybe you’d consider being my girl, officially.
Elizabeth: (smiling) Lucky, I already am!
Lucky: Then that’s a yes?
Elizabeth: Yeah, yes!
(Lucky stands and reaches his hand out to her)
Elizabeth: What’re we doing?
Lucky: Dancing.
Elizabeth: Lucky, there’s no music.
Lucky: Wait, wait. You hear that?
Elizabeth: (listening) No...
Lucky: Shh... listen. There it is. (he sings) I've got sunshine... You hear it?
Elizabeth: (smiling) Yeah.
(They start dancing)
Lucky: ...on a cloudy day. When it’s cold outside, I’ve got the month of May. I’d guess you’d say, what can make me feel this way? My girl...talking bout my girl...My girl…Mmmm.
(next scene)
(Lucky and Elizabeth are dancing to the real song in the backround.)
