(both laughing)
Lucky: Elizabeth, give it to me.
(Elizabeth backs away from him, and jumps up on the bed, Lucky follows)
Elizabeth: No, Lucky, let me play it. (laughing)
Lucky: Give it to me.
(Elizabeth jumps down off the bed and runs around the chair-- Lucky follows, still grabbing at the tape)
Elizabeth: You know I listen to it every day.
Lucky: I hate my voice. Now, come on.
Elizabeth: What?? You have a beautiful voice.
(She runs across the room with Lucky still chasing)
Lucky: You can listen to it after I leave.
Elizabeth: No, no--
(She gets to the desk, turns around, facing away from Lucky, and holds out the tape in front of her. Lucky is reaching around her from behind trying to grab the tape)
Lucky: Give me the tape.
Elizabeth: Lucky, you know I need my daily fix. Stop.
(She turns and winds up in his arms. They stop immediately and Lucky backs away a little)
Elizabeth: You're not really mad, are you?
Lucky: No. I mean, I gave it to you. Why shouldn't you listen to it?
Elizabeth: Right.
(She puts in the cassette in and plays it)
Elizabeth: Oh, how can you hate your voice? And I love the way it comes in all whispery and beautiful and soft and everything else.
(She reaches over and tickles him and he backs up laughing. The phone rings and she turns off the tape and answers still laughing)
Elizabeth: Hello?...This is she... Ok... Ok... I will... No, I want to... Thanks. Bye.
(She turns to tell Lucky)
Elizabeth: Detective Taggert. He says they have a rape suspect they want me to see.
(They go to the police station, but Elizabeth is unable to identify the guy. They are now in Elizabeth's room again)
Lucky: You're not saying anything.
(Elizabeth closes her eyes and then looks straightforward, kinda stoned.)
Elizabeth: Thank you for going with me.
(Lucky bends down to look at her)
Lucky: Look, it's like Taggert said--there'll be other line-ups. You know, maybe next time.
Elizabeth: I don't think you've ever lied to me before, not even to be nice.
(She closes her eyes again and puts a hand up to her head)
Elizabeth: I'm saying things that I don't want to say right now, so I think it's best that you go. I'm sure I’ll be more like myself tomorrow, ok?
(Lucky eyes fill up with tears)
Lucky: You don't have to be like anything for me.
(He looks at her a moment longer and then gets up and goes to the window, turning to look at her before he goes out. Elizabeth sits on the bed, fighting back the tears)
(Elizabeth paces in her room. She picks up Boris, hugs it tightly, looks at it, and throws it back on the bed. She then goes over to her tape player and turns it on, listens for a second and shuts it off. She picks up a book off her desk and starts flipping through it)
Elizabeth: It's not fair!!
(She throws the book back down and sweeps everything off of her desk. She starts going around her room throwing things to the floor, her lamp, by the window, she's turning over chairs and sweeping everything off of the table tops. Lucky comes back to the window and sees her break her mirror. When she starts to turn around, he quickly moves out of sight. She curls up on the bed and sobs while Lucky watches feeling helpless)
