Joey Potter walked swiftly out of the crowded college library. "What a bastard!" she thought aloud. This gained a couple of stares from people around her and Joey blushed.

*See what you do to me, Pacey?* she fumed. *He wants to be jerk? Fine. What do I care.*

Pacey let his head drop to the hardwood table. Instantly, he regretted it as that morning's headache came back.

*Well, I can't study now,* he thought as he picked up his books. He headed slowly towards the door.

Instead of going to his room, Pacey found himself at student information, inquiring about Joey's room number. Once he was given it, he headed for his new destination to apologize.

***

Pacey knocked loudly on room number 217. He stood awkwardly, hands in his pockets, eyes on the floor. When someone answered he was unsure if it had been such a good idea to pursue her so soon.

"Hi!" said Lauryn, Joey's roommate. "Oh, my, god!! You're that babe Joey was talking about!!" Pacey smiled devilishly when he heard a moan that could only have come from Joey.

"Yeah. I guess I am a babe," Pacey replied. Lauryn smiled flirtatiously.

"Well, if things don't work out for you two, I'm ready and willing. And now you know where I live. So come see me some time, gorgeous," she said while walking away from the door.

Pacey laughed. "I'll do that."

Joey began to walk over to the door with a scowl on her face. "She was way wrong about you, Pacey."

He feigned a look of shock. "You don't think I'm a babe?" He covered his face with his hands and made sobbing sounds.

"No. She was right if she meant "babe" as in "baby" as in immature. But, you're also one of the biggest, most obnoxious jerks I have ever come across," she said nastily. "If you don't mind me coining an old phrase, bite me!" With that she slammed the door in his face.

"Damn it," he muttered. He knocked again on the door. "Joey! I had a hangover! I wasn't feeling well! Would you believe temporary insanity?" He knocked louder.

"JOEY!!! OPEN THE DOOR!! I'M SORRY!! WOULD YOU PLEASE..."

The door swung open and Joey grabbed his shirt and pulled him inside. "Pacey Witter, I am going to murder you!! Do you always have to cause a scene?!"

Pacey smiled innocently. "Me? Cause a scene in a crowded dorm? I would never do that, Joey."

Joey was not amused. "You know, this is my dorm and I can kick you out anytime, so you better apologize. And fast."

"Okay, okay," he said quickly, throwing his hands in front of his face. "I'm sorry. I just have a really bad hangover and I didn't feel like being made fun of. Okay? I'm sorry I got sick and I'm sorry I got angry. Is that good enough?"

She bit her lip and put her finger to her cheek. "Well....I don't know...."

Pacey got down on his knees. "Josephine Potter, I am deeply sorry for being a jerk. Please, please, please, may I have your forgiveness?"

Joey smiled her half-smile. "Sure, Witter. I always give old friends second chances. Especially when they grovel."

Pacey jumped to his feet. "Okay then. Why don't you and I go out, have some coffee, and catch up on things?"

"Okay. Let me get my coat." She wandered into the next room and soon came back with a light jacket on. "Let's rock and roll."

Pacey played with the French fries on his plate while Joey rattled on about Dawson, Jack, Joey, Andie, and Jen.

"So everything is pretty much the same in good ol' Capeside. We did miss you, though, Pacey. You always seemed to make things interesting." Pacey nodded.

"But I guess since I wasn't actually there, mail didn't seem like a requirement?" he asked.

"I'm really sorry, Pacey," he shook his head. "I am. It's just that we all got so wrapped up in our own little lives that we..."

"Forgot about your best friend?" Pacey suggested. "I'm sorry, too. I'm sorry that I spent weeks waiting for one damn letter to arrive. I'm sorry that I waited for the phone to ring. I'm sorry that I blew off new friends because I thought that my old friends would come to their senses and give me a call.

I'm also sorry that I expected so much from you guys. Oh, wait. I did that because you told me that you would call, you would write, and you wouldn't forget me," Pacey said bitterly.

Joey but her lip nervously. "Pacey, I don't know what to say."

"There's nothing you can say, Joey. It's done. I spent two years of my life hating myself and my family because I had no friends. You guys really hurt me. I want you to know that."

Joey nodded solemnly. "I know now. And I'm sorry." Then she did something completely un-Joey-like. She gave Pacey a hug.

"We had no idea it would be so hard for you to leave." Pacey hugged her back.

"It's okay. I did get one thing out of this whole experience." Joey pulled away to look at him.

"What's that?"

"I learned how to play the blues on my harmonica." Joey looked at him and burst out laughing at the serious tone he had used. Pacey began to laugh, too.

"How blue can you get?"
