| KPRC is the NBC affiliate for the Houston Market and is currently Broadcasing in DT on Channel 35. KPRC began operation on January 1,1949 as the 12 th TV station in the U.S and as KLEE TV. The calls were switched in 1953 as a Anagram for what Houston was (and kinda is, Kotton Port Rail Center)at the time. The Hobby Family bought the station that year and its' radio properties.The station was the last locally owned type in town until 1994 when Post Newsweek finished purchase of the Hobby's other properties.They're ratings have always been erratic, but recently they've gained ground on KHOU and a milestone by beating KTRK at 5&10. |
