The scene opens at Road Rover Headquarters. The Master has
sent for
Persia, the former Space Rover who had retired from the force over
one
year ago. She had wanted to "get away" from it all and
relax in the
Scottish hills. Although she was raised in Scotland, to
this very day
she knows nothing of her parents or of her origin. Retirement
had not
been kind to Persia. Restless and unable to return to a
"normal life"
Persia glady accepts the Master's invitation to return to HQ.
MASTER: It's been a long time, Persia, you're looking well
PERSIA: Thank you, Master. I don't mean to be presumptous,
sir, but I
sense that you haven't brought me here to simply walk down memory lane.
What to you have in mind?
MASTER: I should've realized that I can't hide a thing from you.
Those
telepathic and mind reading abilities of yours have always been your
strongest skills....
PERSIA: Cut to the chase, flattery will get you nowhere, you have
something you want to ask me, don't you sir?
MASTER: Yes I do, Persia, but allow me to explain my proposal
to you
first, BEFORE you decide, OK?
Persia watches as the Master pushes a button on the wall and a view
screen
is revealed. On the screen appears a strange looking spacecraft,
one
much, much larger than anything she'd ever seen before.
PERSIA: What in the name of Glasgow is that, Master?
MASTER: It's the Canius Minor, a side project that I and an specially
trained group of Road Rovers and Cano-Sapians have been working on
for the
past two years at Alpha Base. This space vehicle was designed
for deep
space exploration and can carry a crew of over 100. Persia,
I am asking
you to return to the force with the rank of Captain, and take command
of
the Canius Minor.
PERSIA: Me? Why me, Master?
MASTER: Outside of the original Road Rovers, you have the
most
experience in space, you and your original bridge crew.
PERSIA: You mean to tell me that Boomer, Saundra, and old man
Alexander
have already sign on to this little plan of yours?
MASTER: Why not ask them yourself, Persia, take a look down the hallway.
Walking up the hallway toward them was Boomer (the Greyhound), Saundra
(the Cocker Spannel) and Alexander (the Scottish Terrier).
Smiles all
around, except for Persia, who looked somewhat confused.
PERSIA: Boomer? I thought you was still teaching at Road Rover Academy!
BOOMER: Well, the truth is although I truly liked working with
the new
cadets, I couldn't pass up an opportunity to return to space, maybe
it's a
macho male sort of thing, I don't know. Will you
be flying with us,
Captain?
PERSIA: Well, maybe. And Saundra, the last I heard
of you, you'd left
the force to get married.
SAUNDRA: Yes, but the marriage didn't last. Before
I knew it, my
"loving husband" was loving every female dog on the block, whether
they
had been transdogmyfied or not! Tell me, Persia, female
to female, are
all Dobermans as obnoius and as egotistical as Blitz was?
PERSIA: He still is, the last time I saw him, he asked me if I'd
like to
see the stars from his room. Believe me, his small mind
was easy to
read, and he didn't have astromony on his mind that night!
SAUNDRA: What a pig!
PERSIA: That's an insult to pigs, my dear. So, you
have also decided to
return.
SAUNDRA: What else is there for me here? My divorce
is final and I'd to
get as far as from my ex-husband as I can, even to another galaxy if
neccassary! So, here I am, ready to serve you again, Persia!
PERSIA: You were always the best navigator I had, Saundra, and
what to
you have to say, old man?
ALEXANDER: I say first, give me a hug, young lady!
Persia and Alexander embrace. "Old Man" Alexander has always
been the
closest thing to a father Persia ever had!
ALEXANDER: I know that the Master has been trying to get you to
join our
little crew. What if I were to tell you that I would be
your second in
command, your first mate, if you to agree to be our captain, would
that
make a difference to you?
BOOMER: It'd be like old times, Persia! Only in the
Canius Minor, you'd
have a lot more dogs to lead.
SAUNDRA: Well, what to you say, Captain Persia?
PERSIA: Well, retirement has been boring, but tell me, Master,
will any
of the Road Rover elite be joining us on this trek?
MASTER: The Road Rover elite are needed here, to defend Earth
from the
enemies from within.
PERSIA: So you're sending the "B" Team out into space!
Boy, am I ever
flattered!
ALEXANDER: Now, Persia, that's not what the Master meant.
PERSIA: Oh really? Look at us! Boomer,
your super speed is almost a
match for the mighty Hunter! And you, Saundra, don't you think
that your
levetation powers would be better served in the Road Rover elite?
And
you, my dear friend Alex, why hasn't the Master ever utilized your
special
skills? No Road Rover, not even in the cadet ranks, could
ever generate
natural kinetic energy in his body like you can? I guess
we're not good
enough to "play" in the majors, are we? That's one reason why........
Persia stopped and turned her face toward the wall
PERSIA: That's the main reason why I left the force in the
first
place......
MASTER: Persia, you never told me you felt that way before.
PERSIA: You should've known!
ALEXANDER: Now Persia, that's not kind, he can't read minds like
you can,
you know.
Persia realized that her old friend was right. She turned
around and
hugged the Master.
MASTER: There, there, Persia. It's all water under
the bridge. Will
you rejoin the Rovers?
BOOMER: Please, Persia?
SAUNDRA: It just wouldn't be the same without you!
ALEXANDER: What do you say, will you lead us into the great
unknown, my
dear?
PERSIA: Old man, you always know the right thing to say.
YES! I will
return to active duty!
MASTER: Thank you, Persia!
BOOMER: ALRIGHT! The old team is back together!
ALEXANDER: I knew you wouldn't let us down, my dear!
Here is a list of
our top dogs. Many of the personnel on this chart have
been hard at work
building the Canius Minor. We'll be getting the rest of our crew
from the
graduating cadet classes of the Academy.
PERSIA: You mean to tell me that I'm going to be some sort of
intergalatic denmother to a group of wet behind the ears pups?
ALEXANDER: Now Persia, you're not being rational.
Just examine the
personal bios in that file you're holding. there is plenty of experience
and talent in our crew of "pups."
Persia quickly skimmed over the many pages in the file.
PERSIA: Oh, I see we have some real winners here!
So, Daisy and Flash,
Professor Hubert's daughters are coming with us. Is this
an episode of
"Bloodhounds in Space?"
ALEXANDER: They are brilliant scientists. Who
do you think designed
the trans-warp engines and defensive systems of our ship? It's
only
natural that they come along.
PERSIA: I suppose, but what about this cadet, Rasputin?
He's the son of
Confuseus! What will he be, the ship's swami?
BOOMER: Persia, for your information, Rasputin is one of the best
fighting Road Rovers I've seen in action, while even Colleen said....
PERSIA: Yes, I have it here. high marks in martial arts, but very
low
marks in disipline and self control. He's a loose cannon.
ALEXANDER: But with the proper atmosphere, I believe he can become
a
great officer.
PERSIA: Well, if you say so, old man, I always did value your
opinions.
Now, look at this one, his name is "Grunt." Master, I don't understand
this, you put a pit bull into your transdogmafier?
MASTER: No, not me, it was Parvo who....
PERSIA: You mean this dog is a Cano-Mutant? Oh, just peachy!
BOOMER: Now wait, Persia. I've been training this
cadet myself. We
attempted to transdogmify him properly, but he suffers from the same
afflition as Shag has. He's not very human, but he's possesses
super
strength and agility for a Cano-Sapien his size.
PERSIA: But will Cadet Grunt follow orders?
BOOMER: He is kind of a loner, but as you can plainly read, he
has passed
all obedience training.
PERSIA: True.
MASTER: OK, Space Rovers, report to Alpha Base to meet your
new crew and
to begin your new mission: To explore space, to seek out
new life and to
make a difference beyond the stars.
PERSIA: One question I have, Master.
MASTER: Ask it!
PERSIA: Master, if WE have this great space vehicle to travel
great
distances, why not let the humans to the space exploring?
MASTER: Well, look at all the governments of the world, we're
too busy
quarreling with each other to work together on a long range project
like
this. Dogs are naturally cooperative and united in.....
Colleen, Blitz and Exile walk by on the other side of the corridor.
BLITZ: But Colleen, I'm Blitz, you know me!
COLLEEN: You're who?
BLITZ: Even after all these years, you're still pretending that
you don't
know me! I'm tired of you hounding me! Let
the biting begin!
EXILE: Don't be a weird boy!
With a loud karate yell, Colleen begins beating up Blitz.
MASTER: Well, MOST of you dogs are cooperative, united and friendly,
I
suggest you board the transport, I've dispatched a driver to chaffeur
you
all to Alpha Base.
BOOMER: Way cool!
SAUNDRA: Let's go!
ALEXANDER: After you, Captain Persia!
PERSIA: Thank you, old man!
Persia, Saundra, Boomer and Alexander enter a yellow colored hover car,
and as it drives through the large doggie door to the surface, the
excited
driver, Fydo, speaks:
FYDO: WOW! This is great! I'm actually in the same
vehicle with the
great Space Rovers! What a priviledge this is!
What a high honor!
What a .....
PERSIA: Cadet, what is your name?
FYDO: My name is Fydo, and let me just say that ....
PERSIA: Strange, Fydo, you're not on my crew list.
BOOMER: (whispering to Persia) there's a reason for that.
PERSIA: (whispering to Boomer) what reason is that?
BOOMER: (whispering) this is Sport's son, he's at the rock
bottom of the
cadet class this year. Driving this hovercar is about the
only thing
he's qualified to do.
FYDO: I'll bet you two are whispering about me! Naughty,
naughty, you
guys! Say, since we're an hour from Alpha Base, how about
how I tell you
how my father was once a Road Rover, it all started back in .....
SAUNDRA: (whispering) Boomer, have you got a spare set of
ear plugs on
you?
