The Space Rovers -- "Canius Minor -- Part 2"
Persia, Alexander, Saundra and Boomer arrive at Alpha Base, a huge remote
underground complex in the New Mexico desert lands. Fydo parks
the
transport near the Canius Minor, the spaceship is so big that none
of them
can see to top of it from where they're sitting.
BOOMER: WOW! Is that thing ever gigantic!
ALEXANDER: It has to be to house all of our crew and equipment
PERSIA (looking at the personnel list): It seems we'll have several
families on board, the first thing I want to do is meet our junior
officers.
FYDO: This is SO exciting! I can't wait to find my quarters and ......
SAUNDRA: Fydo, didn't the Master tell you, you're not coming with us.
FYDO: Not coming? Awww, I get it! This
is so sort of joke! And a
very funny one if I may add and.....
PERSIA: Fydo, this is no joke, you are not listed on the
crew roster.
You're only mission was to drive the rest of us here, now you must
return
to Road Rover Headquarters at once.
FYDO: (sadly) But, I thought I was coming with you....
ALEXANDER: Perhaps another time, Fydo, for now, return to Headquarters,
that's an order, cadet!
FYDO (whimpering) Yes sir....
The four Space Rovers walk slowly towards the huge craft.
Boomer
announces an officers call, and within a few minutes, two dozen
Cano-Sapiens assemble for review. Persia walks to the far end
of the line
and talks to two black Russian wolfhounds.
PERSIA: According to my roster, you are Molotov and Bruno, correct?
MOLOTOV: Yes ma'am!
BRUNO: Da, that is correct Captianski!
PERSIA: Says here that your two children Tanya and Yuri will be
traveling
with us, correct?
MOLOTOV: Yes, ma'am, and please call me Molly, Captain!
PERSIA: Yes, er... Molly, so you're the Chief Engineer and your
husband
is Communications officer, very good!
BRUNO: Thank you, Captain!
PERSIA: Good to meet both of you, dismissed!
As Persia turns and watches Bruno and Molotov depart, she is quite alarmed
when she observes them walking towards a concrete wall.
She nearly
faints as she watches them both pass straight through it without stopping!
ALEXANDER: Persia, I should've told you! Molotov and
Bruno have the
ability to pass through solid objects!
PERSIA (in a relieved tone) : Now you tell me, old man!
BOOMER: This snow white spitz is Whitey, the ships Science Officer.
PERSIA: Pleased to meet you, Whitey, you have an excellent service record!
WHITEY: You flatter me, Captain!
PERSIA: (whispering to Alexander) Anything I should know about this one?
ALEXANDER (whispering back) Only that he can change the molecular
structure of objects with his mind
PERSIA: (whispering to Alexander): That's good to know, old man.
(Outloud) Dismissed, Whitey!
BOOMER: (pointing to them) Captain, here our Francis and Marie!
A
husband and wife who are in charge of damage control.
PERSIA: Well, I must say you two are the first French poodles
I've seen
in the ranks, do you two have any childen
MARIE: We, we, moi Captian! Here they are, right behind me!
Felipe, Josephine and Antonie were standing behind their parents,
shoulders straight and saluting Persia.
PERSIA: Your pups are adorable!
FRANCIS: Thank you, moi Captian!
PERSIA: That's all, return to your stations.
As the two poodles and their children walked away, Persia turned to
Alexander but Saundra interrupted.
SAUNDRA: Francis can turn invisible, and Marie can shoot concentrated
laser beams from her eyes. This is part of the reason she makes
a good
damage control officer!
PERSIA: Thank you, Saundra, and that was the question I was going
to ask.
Look over there! What's all that commotion?
It was Rasputin and Grunt, Rasputin was agruing and throwing punches
while
Grunt was holding him four inches off the floor. Boomer
ran in a flash
to the scene while Persia, Saundra and Alexander were running close
behind.
PERSIA: Rasputin! Grunt! What is going on here?
RASPUTIN: (pointing at Grunt) He started it!
I was minding my own
business and.....
PERSIA: And why don't you tell me the truth, Cadet!
RASPUTIN: What to you mean, Captain? I am known far
and wide for my
absolute honestly and .....
PERSIA: That's a load of mularky, Cadet! You were
agruing with Grunt
over your assigned crew quarters. You got angry and Grunt
had to
restrain you, correct, Cadet Rasputin?
RASPUTIN: How did you know that?
PERSIA: Cadet Rasputin, you are going with us into space because
of your
excellent figthing capibilites, but I I warn you now that I will have
order and disipline aboard my vessel, do I make myself clear?
RASPUTIN; Perfectly, Captain, ma'am
PERSIA: That's better, Grunt, you may put him down now.
GRUNT: GRRRRRRR GROWLLL GRRRRRRRRR
PERSIA: No, I don't want him put in the brig, just release him now
Grunt lets go of Rasputin, who falls to the floor with a thud.
PERSIA: Grunt, I realize you are Chief of Security of my ship,
but you
simply must learn to control your emotions. I know this is difficult
for
a Pit Bull to do, but I am confident that you will succeed.
GRUNT: GRRRRRRRR GROWLLLLL GRRRRRRRRRRRRR
PERSIA: Yes, I know you're just trying to do your job, but ease
up on the
crew for now. Most have never been in space before so this will
be a new
experience for them, as well as you. Dismissed!
Grunt walks away, still staring at Rasputin, who is on the other side
of
the room talking to a female Labrabor. After an exchange of words,
the
Labrador slaps him and walks away.
PERSIA: That dog is going to be trouble, maybe I should've let
Grunt
throw him in the brig! Oh well, I want to see the sick
bay and life
sciences sections of the ship before we launch.
ALEXANDER: Right this way, Captain!
Boomer, Saundra, Alexander and Persia walked through the ship's entrance
and in a matter of minutes the foursome were standing in front of a
door
marked "MEDICAL UNIT - SICK BAY" As they entered the room,
they were
greeted by Abdullah (a brown Kurvasz) and Sheena (an Austrailian Shepard)
who happen to be the ship's doctors
SHEENA: G'day Captain, who seems to be ailing ya?
ABDULLAH: Let me see (he touches Persia's nose) Well, your
nose is cold
and wet, perhaps we should give you the complete physical, yes?
PERSIA: No, that won't be necessary. We are only here to inspect .....
SHEENA: Oh, NOW I get it, mates! You bloaks only wanta
look around,
right?
PERSIA: Well, yes.....
SHEENA: Well, do you like what you see so far?
BOOMER: Everything seems to be in working order here, Captain,
shall we
go to Life Sciences?
SHEENA: Nice meetin ya, see you around!
ALEXANDER: Is it just me or do the rest of you think that Sheena
has
taken one too many "happy pills?"
SAUNDRA: I don't know about that, but I do know she possesses
levetation
abilities like I have, and Abdullah can use his mind to generate strong
winds, even he doesn't know how he does it.
PERSIA: Did Sheena ever examine him?
SAUNDRA: Yes, but she hasn't a clue either.
BOOMER: (talking to himself) Maybe that's because of the windmills
in
Sheena's mind.
PERSIA (Outloud) That's not a nice thing to think, Boomer!
BOOMER: Oops, forgot you can read my mind.......
The four continue chatting as they enter a large room where Daisy and
Flash, Professor Hubert's brilliant daughters, are hard at work.
DAISY: Look, Flask, y'all know that the Captain is coming here
today, and
we better have all these new units workin' or she's a gonna be mad!
FLASH: I think I've got this one a workin', try it out!
Daisy pushes some buttons on the control panel directly in front of
a
bluish metal machine. The machine flashes it's lights, makes
a few
gurggling noises, and a few seconds later, a small panel opens.
Flash
rushes to grab what's inside, it's appears to be a plate of freshly
prepared food! Flash grabs a handful of brownish looking
stuff and puts
it in her mouth.
DAISY: Well.......
FLASH (still chewing) Success, sister! This is the
best fried ocra that
I've ever produced! Now if I git some cornpone and hamhocks,
it'd taste
like we was back home!
Daisy turns around and sees the Captain and the others.
DAISY: Captain! Well...... we weren't expecting y'all till later......
PERSIA: What is it exactly you two are working on now?
FLASH (still chewing) food preparation machines, ma'am!
BOOMER: I thought you two were supposed to be overseeing the work
being
done on the ship's engines!
DAISY: We did that last night, sir!
FLASH: Yessir, we finished that early this morning! We'll
have the
fastest spaceship in the heavens thanks to our advanced designs!
ALEXANDER: How so?
DAISY: Well, we found a way to transverse the physical planes
using
Einstien's therom on space and time, coupled with Pavlov's ideas on
galatic strings as well as .....
PERSIA: Please, just tell us in plain, simple English, OK?
FLASH: Ok, we can produce artifical 'wormholes' in space and pilot
this
ship through them!
DAISY: In theory, this means the Canius Minor has the ability
to go to
almost anywhere in the known universe, in a matter of minutes!
BOOMER: You say in theory, have you experiemented on .....
FLASH: Nossir! Gonna wait til we're out in space to do that!
SAUNDRA: Isn't that a little dangerous?
DAISY: Y'all jist relax here, my sister and I know what we're
doing.
Don't y'all fret none, OK?
ALEXANDER: (sarcasticly) Ladies, your confidence is so reassuring!
FLASH: (giggling) Ain't it the truth, y'all!
DAISY: Say, Captain, ma'am, are there many good lookin' fellers
on this
ship?
FLASH: Are there, ma'am?
PERSIA: Well, there are several single males on my crew roster ....
DAISY: YIPEE!!! I knew it! Maybe
now we can git some lovin' fer a
change!
FLASH: Yep, sister, I'm a gonna snag me a good lookin' feller and .....
PERSIA: Look, you two, this is space ship, not the Love Boat!
You are
free to socialize on your own time, but when you're on duty, you WILL
perform your duties, is that understood?
DAISY: Yessum, ma'am.
FLASH: I understands, ma'am
PERSIA: Good! Come, let's leave these two ladies to their work.
The four finish their tour of the ship, examining everything from crew
quarters to the bridge.
ALEXANDER: Well, now that you've seen the Canius Minor, what do
you think
of her?
PERSIA: May I be frank with you?
ALEXANDER: Of course, my dear!
PERSIA: The Canius Minor is a fine vessel, but are you sure we
can count
on this crew of youngsters to do their jobs in space? We
have some
rather, shall we say, unique, individuals serving under us.
Nearly one
hundred different Cano-Sapiens aboard, I have my doubts, but I have
a gut
feeling that we'll do just fine.
ALEXANDER: I, too, feel the same way!
Bruno comes running towards the foursome, holding a piece of paper in
his
hand.
BRUNO: Captain Persia! Important message from the
Master, we are to
launch tommorrow morning at 6!
PERSIA: That doesn't leave us much time! Boomer, make
sure all of our
supplies are loaded.
BOOMER: Right away, Captain Persia!
PERSIA: Saundra, go to the bridge and run a complete computer
daignostic
on our navigation and communications systems, take Bruno to assist
you!
SAUNDRA: Aye, Aye, Captain! Bruno, you're with me!
PERSIA: Alex, give a hand to Daisy and Flash, and while you're
at it, ask
Molotov to run diagnostics on our engines. I'll go to the
forward
section of the ship to help Grunt calibrate our weapons systems.
We
don't know what we could run into out there, we'll all meet back on
the
bridge in six hours for a senior officers meeting. Ok,
everyone, let's
get this ship ready for space flight! We hit the skies
at dawn!
