It was the night before the wedding. All the preperations had been made, all was ready. Liz was fast asleep in bed, dreaming wonderful dreams of the following day. Sarah was camped out in the spare bedroom, she was Liz's maid of honor. Much to the dismay of her parents.
Liz woke up for no apparent reason. SHe reached out for Lucky and found his side of the bed empty. Where was he? she wondered. She stuck her feet into her slippers and went to go look for him. AS she stood, she glanced at the clock, 3:00 AM. why hadn't Audrey started to cry for her feeding yet?
Liz yawned widely as she padded down the hallway. She was going to be tired at the wedding ceremony tomorrow. She glanced into Audrey's room as she passed. Much to her surprise Lucky was in the rocking chair holding Audrey and feeeding her.
Liz decided to not interrupt them yet. Lucky was speaking softly to their daughter.
"Hey Angel, tomorrows the big day. You're mother and I are going to get married. You will be the main event though, all htose people love adorable little babies."
"I am so happy I'm going to finally commit myself fully to your mother. And you Audrey, I hope you find the kind of love we have someday. Although, I'm not letting you date till your 21, so you don't get pregnant as a teen. Just kidding, maybe I'll consider it when your 19 if you're good."
Liz covered her mouth to stop from laughing and make her presence known.
Lucky set the bottle on the table and stod up. He lay Audrey in her crib, but she was having none of it. AS soon as his hands lifted she started bawling loudly.
"Shhh!" he hushed her, "Don't wake you mother and aunt. With the wedding tomorrow Liz will want her beauty sleep, although she doesn't need it."
Audrey kept bawling until he finally picked her up again, she immediately quieted.
"Audrey, I can't hold you all night, I do have to get married tomorrow as well." she just smiled innocently at him.
Lucky sighed adnd glanced around the room, as if to make sure nobody was there, "Allright, I'll sing you to sleep. But don't expect me to make a habit out of it."
He walked her around the room, singning softly.
"There's two things I know for sure.
She was sent here from heaven, and she's daddy's little girl.
As I drop to my knees by her bed at night,
She talks to Jesus, and I close my eyes.
And I thank God for all the joy in my life,
But most of all, for...
Liz had tears in her eyes as she listened to Lucky sing. He loved Audrey so much, he was such a good father.
Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer.
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair.
"Walk beside the pony, daddy, it's my first ride."
"I know the cake looks funny, daddy, but I sure tried."
Oh, with all that I've done wrong,
I must have done something right
To deserve a hug every morning,
And butterfly kisses at night.
Liz's heart swelled with pride as she watched the love of her life adn her daughter. Audrey was dozing off on Lucky's shoulder, her little eys fluttering.
Sweet sixteen today,
She's looking like her momma a little more every day.
One part woman, the other part girl.
To perfume and makeup from ribbons and curls.
Trying her wings out in a great big world.
But I remember...
Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer.
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair.
"You know how much I love you daddy, but if you don't mind,
I'm only going to kiss you on the cheek this time."
With all that I've done wrong,
I must have done something right.
To deserve her love every morning,
And butterfly kisses at night.
All the precious time
Like the wind, the years go by
Precious butterfly
Spread your wings and fly
She'll change her name today.
She'll make a promise, and I'll give her away.
Standing in the bride room just staring at her,
She asked me what I'm thinking, and I said, "I'm not sure,
I just feel like I'm losing my baby girl."
Then she leaned over and gave me....
Butterfly kisses, with her momma there
Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair
"Walk me down the aisle, daddy, it's just about time."
"Does my wedding gown look pretty, daddy?" " Daddy, don't cry."
With all that I've done wrong, I must have done something right
to deserve her love every morning,
And butterfly kisses
I couldn't ask God for more, man, this is what love is
I know I've gotta let her go, but I"ll always remember
Every hug in the morning, and butterfly kisses...
Lucky's voice dropped to a whisper as he aly Audrey in her crib. SHe was fast asleep.
Lucky just stood there, looking down on his daughter. Liz crept up behind him.
Lucky gave a start when he felt a pair of arms incircle him from behind. Soon, he realized it was just Elizabeth.
"You heard?" he asked, embarassed.
Liz nodded silently. She was filled with love for this man she held. Not just as her lover, but as a father. She could never picture her father singing so tenderly to her when seh was a baby.
"that was beautiful Lucky," she said simply.
Lucky was still embarassed, "I just wanted her to go to sleep. I don't plan on doing this every night."
"Sure honey," Liz nodded, remembering his similar sentiment at the hospital.
HTey just stood there, Liz's arms around Lucky's waist, staring down at their daughter.
"She's going to be wonderful," Liz whispered, "Even more so than she is now."
Lucky turned around in her arms,"If she's half the woman her mother is, she'll be amazing."
Liz blushed, "Thanks Lucky, but if she has musical talent, we'll know where she gets it from."
Lucky leaned down and kissed his future wife softly, "Shall we let our daughter sleep?"
Liz yawned, "Novel idea, we could use some ourselves."
