Chapter Thirty-Four

Audrey was released from the ICU in a few short days. 3 days after her birth she was taken up to Liz's hospital room. She had her own little crib, but was almost constantly being held.

Lucky walked into the room one day to find Elizabeth talking baby talk to little Audrey, "Youz the cootest little angel, yez you are."

The baby giggled in delight as Liz tickled her stomach. Lucky laughed, adn Liz looked up startled, "I didn't see you there."

"She's adorable isn't she?" Liz asked as Lucky sat down on teh edge of the bed, maternal pride written all over her features.

Luckky nodded, "I think so, but then again, I am a little biast."

Liz waved that off, "She's teh cutest baby in the world, my Audrey is."

"She may be the cutest baby," Lucky said affectionately, "But she's definately no the cutest female, even in this room."

Liz blushed, "Thank you Lucky, but you are little far off in that assumption. I'm still all dowdy and chubby from the pregnancy."

"Trust me sweetheart, that means nothing. You have this glow about you that's just amazning. Motherhood really agrees with you."

"Well, I'll agree with you on one thing," Liz said, "Motherhood does agree with me. Well, at least it will until the 2 AM feedings start."

Lucky laughed, "But you'll turn your soulful eyes to mine, and guess who will be getting up to take Audrey her bottle."

"That's my plan," Liz giggled.

Audrey looked so adorable as she yawned, her little mouth stretching widely. "Look who needs her nap," Liz said.

She handed the baby to Lucky, who, in turn, placed little Audrey in her little crib thing beside the bed. Audrey wasn't falling asleep however, she kept staring at her fahter in intense fascination.

Liz laughed, "She thinks you're the handsomest guy in the world."

"Seeing as how I'm about the only one she's seen, it's not that unbelievable," Lucky said, then turned back to Audrey, "Come on sweetheart, close your eyes and go to sleep."

Audrey just kept staring up at him wiht her beautiful blue eyes. "Remember waht I said about your little rebellion problem>" Lucky chided.

"Why don't you sing to her Lucky?" Liz suggested.

Lucky agreed reluctantly, "If it will get her to sleep."

His voice carried in the little hospital room as he sang his daughter to sleep, using part of the song he had written for Elizabeth,

"As you kneel beside your bed tonight,
keep a little prayer for me insight
know that I will be there when you call,
know that I will catch you if you might fall."

No sooner had he finished the verse than Audrey was curled up, fast asleep.

"Well, we just found a great way to get her to sleep," Liz mused.

Lucky shook his head, "No way, this was a onetime thing."

Liz shrugged, "Wahtever yuo say."

Lucky decided to breach another subject, "AS I'm sure you remember,I proposed the other day, adn you accepted."

Liz looked at him, "You think I'd forget a thing like that?"

"Anyway, I want to discuss the wedding. I want to have it soon. Remember the little church where we pledged our eternal love, the other year? As soon as it can be arranged, I'd like to be married there."

"That sounds great Lucky, but wait at least 2 months."

Lucky looked astonished, "2 months, why?"

"Come on Lucky, I want to be able to fit into a nice wedding dress. Besides, this has got to be perfect, it's going to take a lot of planning." Liz told him.

"But 2 months!"

"Lucky, this is non-negotiable. It's our wedding, it's got to be perfect."

Both Lucky and Liz looked up in suprise as Luke and Laura entered the room.

"Hey cowboy!" Luke greeted Lucky loudly and kissed Liz on the cheek.

"SHH!!!!" Lucky and Liz said simultaniously.

"Sorry," Luke said quietly.

"HOw's my granddaughter doing?" Laura whispered, perring inot the crib.

"She's just fine Laura," Liz assured her, "She just went down for her nap."

Liz was about to tell Laura to inform Lucky it took more than a week to prepare for a wedding, but she remembered they hadn't even told them of their engagement yet. "Lucky," she said,"You realize with Audrey's birth we ahven't told your aprents the big news yet."

"Waht big news dear?" Luara asked, looking up from the crib.

"I asked Liz to marry me," Lucky said.

"I assume the lady said yes?" Luke asked.

"Of course," Liz smiled.

"That's wonderful dear!" Laura exclamied, "Now you'll really be one of the family."

"Thanks Laura," Liz said, giving her future mother in-law a hug.

"I echo my wife's sentiments," Luke said cheerfully , congratulating his son.

"Now Laura," Liz said, determined to have Lucky realize somehting, "Tell Lucky we cannot have the wedding in a week, there is too much to plan. 2 months is the soonest I htink we can do it."

Laura nodded, "Oh yes, at least two months. My baby is getting married, I am going to plan the best wedding, it will be so memerable."

"DOn't get to carried away dear," Luke said mildly.
