"I'm sorry to have to tell you this Lucky, but you have cancer in you pancreas. It's unoperable. THe tumor has grown so much that we can't simply remove it."
{Authors note: sorry, I'm not a doctor so I'll be getting A LOT of medical facts and all that completely wrong. It's just a fanfic though}
Luke asked, "What are you trying to tell us? That he's going to die."
"I'm so sorry, but unless we find an organ for transplant SOON, he'll die."
"I'm going to die?" Lucky asked, his voice breaking.
"Unless there is an organ available soon, yes Lucky." Bobbie told Lucky this calmly, but there were underlying tremors in her voice.
"Oh, shit!" Lucky put his face in his hands,"This can't be happening. And my life was just getting good."
Laura put her arms around her son and asked,"How much time left is there Bobbie?"
"There is no set time, but at these advanced stages it could be anytime from tomorrow to 3 months."
Bobbie's words were coming to Liz through a haze. It was impossible to accept. HOw could this be happening? Lucky was her whole world, he completed her in evey way. She couldn't live without him. Death, it was so final.
"You can go home Lucky, we can send pain medication etc. with you. We can't do anymore for you here then we could there," Bobbie went over to Lucky and hugged him too.
"I'll leave you guys alone now to absorb the news. I will go arrange for Lucky's release. I'm so sorry." with that she left the room.
"Oh, damn," Lucky swore,"If I had just come in with my stomahc cramps earlier. I'm such an idiot!"
"You have been having cramps and you did nothing about it?" Luke asked incredulously.
"They usually went right away Dad. I didn't think it was anything!"
Laura startred sobbong uncontrolably and Luke put his arms around her to comfort her. "My baby!"
Lucky looked at Liz who hadn't said a word since they found out,"Elizabeth?"
Liz spoke but the words came of there own free will,"This is just a shock. I can't believe this is happening, you don't deserve it."
Lucky tried to sound confident,"Maybe they can find a compatible pancreas for transplant in time."
It was too much for even him and he started crying,"I can't die!"
Liz put her arms around him to comfort him, but ended up sobbing herself. They clung together in grief.
It was a miserable picture they presented the four of them ion that room. A persons life was being cut off in it's prime.
"Mom,dad could you leave Elizabeth and I alone for a minute?" Lucky asked his parents.
"Sure Lucky," Luke said, "We'll just be outside." he led Laura from the room.
"Lucky, oh God, I can't let you go! We just found each other!" Liz cried out.
"I know, I feel the exact same way. If I ahd just come in sooner. I'm sorry I'm stopping our future together." Lucky said stroking her hair.
"Lucky, none of this is your fault. We don't even know for sure if coming in sooner would have saved you." Liz told him, tears streaming down her face.
"Elizabeth, where are we supposed to go from here? We have no future together. It's not fair to tie you down to a dying man." Lucky's heart broke as he said it, but he had to give her a way out.
"Lucky, don't even think that. I love you, more than anyhting else. Even if they can't find a compatible donor, I want to spend all the time I can with you. You're my life and I can't simply walk away." Liz was shocked he'd even suggest she do such a thing.
"But Elizabeth, I can't ask you to..." he was cut off by Liz..
"Ask me to what. Spend time with the man I love? Even if you're going to die I still love you so much. Nothing could ever change that."
Lucky pulled her head up and kissed her gently on the lips, their tears mingling together. Neither of them noticed that people had come in. Luke's discreet cough broke them apart.
"It's all arranged Lucky," Bobbie said," your pain medications will be sent to Luke and Luara's. We'll send some supplies with you now though. Plus here is a beeper. You've been put on the transplant list."
"Wait a minute Bobbie, who said I was moving back in with my parents? For one thing, Lulu doesn't need to see my in my condition, it would upset her too much."
"I just assumed Lucky, what if you have uncontrollable cramping and have nobody there to get your meds for you? You need someone to live with." Bobbie insisted.
"Yes Lucky,"Luke chimed in,"You have to move home. We don't want you to..." he had been about to say 'die alone', but had trailed off.
Lucky was adamant though, "I'm dying anyway, moving to your place won't prolong my life. Let me spend my last months on earth the way that will make me happy."
"Fine Lucky, you can stay at your place,"Laura repliedrecieving stares from everyone.
"But" she added,"Somebody has to live with you"
"Who's supposed to do that mom? Nobody wants to live with a dying man."
"What about Nickolas, Lucky? I'm sure he'd be happy to."
"I can't ask that of him mom. It wouldn't be fair. He would be obligated to say yes." Lucky told her.
"I insist Lucky, that someone stay with you. So who else is there." Laura said.
"Me," Liz said from the chair beside Lucky's bed.
